Hi!

Received my X301 2 weeks ago from Electronica Direct and I would like to thank them for the excellent prompt service, This product is 2776-P6U it has all the above mentioned specs + AT&T wireless WWAN HSDPA 7.2 + GPS once you put your hand on the X301 you will notice that built quality is superior to the current T series meanwhile the reason why I'm rating this product 3 stars only is because of the keyboard its just awful!!! It flexes excessively specially the left side just like a cheap notebook! from what I came to know Lenovo implemented a new keyboard design that caused the problem I have contacted Lenovo with the matter and they informed me that they will look into it and I'm still waiting! The main reason I always buy ThinkPad's is the legendary IBM keyboard and now it's gone! I'm very disappointed with my X301 and I don't recommend it!

I am 90% happy with this laptop. It is very light and very portable. Mine came with Windows XP pre-installed and a set of Vista 'restore' disks. These didn't work (I called Lenovo support and their suggestion was to wipe the hard-drive and start again, which I did but that made no difference) so I had to install my own copy of Vista. It then took 2 days to download all the updates to my copy of Vista and all the X301 drivers.

However, now it is up and running, it works very well. You can notice the benefit of low access-time of an SSD, particularly when it comes to tasks such as browsing picture thumbnails. It boots pretty quickly too. I would point out a few things gripes worth knowing though..

The battery-life is listed in the specs as up-to 5.5 hours. In my experience that is really around 3.5 hours.

The processor is a little under-powered and this can show itself in video playback.

The fingerprint scanner doesn't seem to work half the time (but who cares?).

That all sounds a bit negative, but on the whole I am impressed. If I had my money back I would buy an X301 again!

I am currently on my 8th or 9th ThinkPad since IBM debuted the ThinkPad Iine in 1992 and continue to prefer the overall quality, portability, screen resolution, utility and look of the X series laptops.

My current 13" ThinkPad X301 with an SSD is ultra-slim, weighs 3.2lbs., has clean simple lines, and is appropriate for business meetings. With the Enhanced Experience (EE), these laptops are also much quicker at boot-up and in processing when multi-tasking. Of all the laptops I have tried, I prefer not only the keyboard and overall ergonomics of the ThinkPads, but the balance, solid construction and feel.

I dock it to a 24" monitor and wireless keyboard when at home, and will sometimes carry a simple bookstand and wireless travel keyboard when working on a lot of spreadsheets, PPT presentations or word processing. This way, I can open the ThinkPad all the way, place it in the bookstand, and have the screen at eye level. It is thin and light enough to do this.

The solid state duo core processor makes for a quick boot-up and multi-tasking. Have owned the X301 for over 2 years and have not had any issues with it. I do run a good utility program to keep it running smoothly.

For business purposes, the simple lines of the matte black carbonite case makes for a durable travel laptop with a solid construction that is not distracting in presentations (think Alienware).

Visually and tactically, I do prefer the matte black and design of the X-series ThinkPads.

I've had this massive screened beauty for 4-months now with not a single glitch! I replaced a 15" Dell XPS, and this larger screen size is very welcomed. Here are some observations:

1. Sheer size. This laptop is in the category of DTR (desk top replacement). In other words, this machine is large enough to feel like an acceptable replacement to a full blown desktop system. The beauty of a DTR is how much cleaner your desk will look with the laptop open or closed.

2. The screen is bright and beautiful. The glass covers nearly the entire lid and there is a 1/2" black framing under the glass on the sides and bottom. The framing is slightly larger on the top where the web-cam resides.

3. The lid operates solidly. It does not have a wobbly feel. The hinge is tight enough that when you open the laptop, you have to hold down the lower half of the machine as if you are prying the two halves apart.

4. The keyboard is full size and includes a ten-key number pad. The keys are what is called 'chicklett' style. The keys operate properly but I am still not used to the unique arrangement of some of the key. Especially annoying are the dedicated half-size directional arrow keys. I could turn off the NumLock and use those arrows, but I use numbers a lot. The back-lit keyboard is a first for me, and I like it a lot!

5. This machine does play (but not burn) BluRay. (Honestly, blank BD disks are still expensive. An external USB drive is a better method of data storage.) Also plays and burns DVD & CD. This optical drive is a tray loader. I prefer slot loading only because when I have the tray extended I always feel like I could accidentally break it.

6. The sound system is incredible! Six speakers including a sub-woofer. When watching a movie on this computer I'm about 3-feet from the screen, and the picture quality and great sound are in competition with my large screen HDTV and THX sound system. It's that good.

7. Of the 5 USB ports, one is USB 3.0 which allows my primary backup drive to do it's job in a fraction of the time compared to USB 2.0.

8. Because of the sheer size, I will not be hauling this around on a regular basis. I have a netbook that I carry to school. But I did want to have a case for this machine for those rare occasions. Again, because it's to big, finding a case took hours of searching! Here is the model I found that I purchased. Cut and paste this into Amazon's search bar: Everki Advance Laptop Bag Briefcase, Fits up to 18.4-Inch (EKB407NCH18). (I wrote a review on that case love it.)

9. The machine connects rapidly to wi-fi. There is an easy access dedicated button on the front left edge of the device that instantly brings up the wi-fi and bluetooth toggles.

10. The bottom line for me when selecting this machine was company reputation and price. The laptop has perfectly handled all the heavy processing digital media editing and processing software that I have installed. Not a single burp in four months.

I would feel comfortable recommending this machine to any friend or relative seeking a DTR. In the realm of 18"+ screens, the market is still narrow. You could go with another manufacturer and pay more. Just compare the specifications and make your own wise decision.

I have had this laptop for only a couple months and it is still under warranty. The battery life is nice but I have already sent it in twice to be fixed. The first time was because of a crashing issue and the second time was because a group of pixels in the screen died. Each time I had to pay for shipping and was without a computer for more than a week.

My real issue is that after getting the laptop back from the pixels issue, less than two days later more pixels died. I called ACER customer support and they told me that I would have to pay for the screen to be replaced this time even though the laptop was still under warranty. I find it unacceptable to be required to pay to replace something that they were just supposed to have fixed two days ago!

Best Deals for Acer Aspire AS8951G-9600 18.4" Notebook PC

Pros: Excellent overall package.

Classy understated aesthetics, with a nice brushed aluminum finish.

Solid construction, very rigid for it's size. Seems slimmer and smaller than you'd think for an 18.4" screen.

Keyboard ergonomics are good, keys are well spaced and have a nice tactile feedback.

The removable touch-pad works well and is actually more than a novelty. It works in both normal and landscape orientation.

System stays cool and quiet during normal use, and only gets a bit louder and warmer when running games.

Speakers are surprisingly good, for a laptop mind you...

The Hard Drive is formatted as just one partition (Yay!).

Came pre-installed with Windows 7 Ultimate!? Not advertised as such, but thanks!

Has a minimum of "bloatware". Took me about an hour to get everything the way I like it.

Pretty much everything you could want in a "desktop replacement". An outstanding value for this role. There is nothing it can't do, truly a Jack of All Trades.

Cons: Just a little shy in the memory dept. 1333mhz, or at least the option to upgrade would have been nice.

The video card is not top-of-the-pile, but it is a nice mid-level card with good battery and thermal performance.

The hard drive really shoulda been a 7200RPM. This machine has some serious horsepower but it somewhat hamstrung by it's slowish (but spacious!) hard drive.

Other Thoughts: I have owned many laptops over the last 20 years, this is the best one yet. I use it for CAD, 3D Scanning, 3D Printing, Office Apps, Internet, Games, Videos, etc... While not the absolute best at any one of them, it excels at all of them.

I would have paid another $200 for a better Hard Drive and Video Card.

Honest reviews on Acer Aspire AS8951G-9600 18.4" Notebook PC

Acer didn't even bother to wire the 2nd hard drive bay.

It costs you $60+ for the cable and brackets and lots of research to make the laptop usable.

I will NEVER buy an Acer again.

This computer was delivered on time. It has a great feel and it is very responsive. The first thing I noticed was the brightness of the screen it is clean and sharp, and the colors really stand out. The keyboard is solid and feels nice when typing. The other thing I noticed is how light this computer feels; this has been sitting on my lap for hours and I hardly feel it. I think that for the money I made a great choice. I have owned Dell before and I had great results, I guess that is why I went back to it. I highly recommend this laptop to anyone.

I began purchasing Dell products in 1993 and bought 3 MP3 players, 4 laptops, 4 desktop computers, 3 printers, a camera and more. However, about 5 years ago, I noticed a sharp decline in Dell's customer service and quality of their products. So I purchase 5 MP3 players from Apple and Samsung, a laptop from Apple and another laptop from Acer, and 3 tablets from Samsung and amazon. Recently I have been reading some positives about Dell, although there are still complaints about their customer. So I decided to consider Dell again, but I wanted to still go through Amazon because of their customer service. I received the laptop in 2 or 3 days and it was great right out of box. I like windows 8 even though I am still learning. I really like this laptop and it was a good price. The processor is fast, there is plenty of hard drive space and memory. I highly recommend this laptop and for those who have lost faith in Dell to consider them again.

I am not a high tech person. I use my computer for Shopping, scrapbooking, social media. My daughters boyfriend (who does know computers) recommended this computer to me. It was easy to use. Easy to set up. I am able to work my way around it and maintain it. The only thing I wish it has is Keys that light up. I suppose if I had spent more time or money I could have found that. I can't think of anything else negative to say. It met my needs and was very affordable. My Teen daughter uses it for school projects and I have not heard any complaints from her.

I bought it mostly for the processor, which works like a charm. And compared to the laptop I was using which was kind of a cheap Compaq, which overheated a lot and for some reason didn't support higher forms of Java anymore, this laptop is like heaven on Earth. Although, sometimes it freezes and I have to shut it down completely, which it probably shouldn't do considering it's brand new. Also, when it goes to sleep when the lid is open, I have to restart it every time, so it's kind of a pain how time consuming it is just to turn it back on after it's been asleep. Maybe it's supposed to be like that if you don't close the lid.(?) But over all it's exactly what I expected and more. And I still think it's a better alternative to a Mac, because I don't like Macs.

Product worked fine, and as expected...until we began the process of configuring for mobile use: then it was discovered the cellular antenna is malfunctioning if not broken. To be certain, we tested a number of mobile modems (GOBI 3000, etc) before concluding it was the x131e itself that was at fault. Attempted RMA, only to discover it was 1 day past 30 day period...so no return authorized by vendor. I'm stuck with a device purchased for a mobile user, and cannot use it as such. I have over a dozen others of this make functioning properly, so I the device series is not bad, but only this device. Unfortunately the vendor is not willing to compromise, and will be stricken from my company list of approved vendors. I am not referencing Lenovo here, but ANTONLINE.COM

First, let me explain my needs for this laptop. I am a Photographer, on a budget, as I've invested most of my money on having high quality glass & gear. Having already spent quite a bit on Windows based software (hello, Photoshop!), as well, it simply wasn't practical for me to attempt switching over to Apple, the usual choice for Creative Professionals. So, I began my quest for a reasonably priced PC notebook that would meet my needs: Fast processor for Photoshop use, quality & decent sized screen for work (preferably WUXGA), while maintaining portablility. This led me to the Dell Studio Line, the XPS line & the Sony Vaio.

On Cyber Monday, I managed to snag a SWEET deal on a Studio 15 customized with these specs PLUS an upgraded wireless N card, 1920 x 1200 WUXGA screen (need that screen real estate), as well as bluetooth internal (to sync my smart phone) and a 3 year warranty. Bonuses aside, so as to give a true review of the product listed, this thing is much better than I'd even hoped for! It blazes through Photoshop (CNET gave good reviews for this model in this area), the screen is bright & beautiful, it doesn't get very hot at all & the fan is very quick & very quiet. I really like being able to utilize the lit keyboard at night and the multimedia buttons at the top are a nice touch.

To address the negative reviews of others -No, the speakers aren't great. However, I use my home stereo or my Ipod for music, and my TV/DVD for movies, so this doesn't bother me. I did watch an episode of House that I'd missed on Hulu, and the sound was just fine for my tastes. As for the graphics, I wouldn't really know as I'm not a gamer. I do know that the XPS line is supposed to be the Gamer line for Dell, as well as Alienware. Most of the review sites do not recommend the Studio line for gaming due to the graphics card. For general work use, however, particularly in Photoshop, this thing fits the bill! I love my Studio 15!

Each person has their own experience using this laptop. I bought this laptop little while ago, and so far I am very satisfied with performance of this laptop. I had experience with Dell laptop previously since I owned Dell Inspiron 1425; and it worked just fine. I need a faster laptop for my works, and I think this laptop will suit to my needs. I like the design and its back-lit keyboard.

I ordered this laptop, new, a while back. The laptop came in and upon loading, I realized it was slower than it was supposed to be. Checking the specs, I noticed that it only had 1GB of RAM. Also, the sound drivers were in bad condition, resulting in shoddy speakers and headphone jacks.

[.................]what can you expect right?

Vista is horrible. This computer overheats on me constantly, even though I do not leave it on a bed or pillow. The optical drive is currently not working. I've had this computer for 3 months, so I am pretty disappointed. I'm shipping it back to dell to see if they can fix any of the problems, but I doubt it. Once a sub-par computer, always a sub-par computer.

I recommend you steer clear of this laptop.

I've only had the laptop for a few weeks. I am extremely happy with it so far. I really wish I had stayed w/ Toshiba when I bought the previous laptop, b/c I've had nothing but good luck w/ my Toshiba laptops (this is my 3rd in 10years).

I did NOT like windows 8, at first mainly b/c it's unfamiliar. I'm already starting to get used to the features & where everything is located. So far I'm still able to use all the same applications that I've been using for years, so I'm good...

I would recommend this product!! & any Toshiba laptop, for that matter!

its very fast, the battery life is roughly 2-4 hrs which isn't bad. The only problem that I have had is windows 8, its not computer friendly until you change all of the settings to be more like XP or windows 7. Windows 8 is also overly susceptible to viruses and Trojans (Microsoft made another version of VISTA and they called it windows 8).

I've had several hard drive issues and had to reformat it several times!! My laptop never left my home, not abused; there is NO reason this computer should have this many problems! I will never buy a Dell again!! I was hoping for a really good system, I paid $900.00 and was excited...what a major let down.

Best Deals for Dell Inspiron i1750-1840OBK 1750 17.3-Inch Laptop (Obsidian Black)

I have owned this computer for just under 1 year now. It was purchased to replace a Desktop workstation and laptop I use to video edit, code webs, jam multimedia. The speed with 4GB ram and Win7 kicks butt! Way faster than any XP configuration or any Vista setup. 64bit Win7 has some issues with older software but some of that may be time to leave behind anyway...

Originally it had a problem with the headphone jack, a short or bad soldering so only the left channel output with headphones, etc. Called, had no problem getting the Warranty changed to MY NAME with proof of purchase from the last owner. They had me ship it back to the Depot in TX for repair.

The Box to return it came the next morning, I packed it up and shipped it to them, marking down that Hard Drive reformat was OK ( I had already made a backup of everything) if needed. I got the system back in about 7 days! I was really happy to have this awesome machine back in my hands. Well, my happiness was short lived as soon as I re-formated and re-installed my system (I was paranoid someone could have installed some crap while at the Depot) I plugged in my Headphone Jack and got the LEFT Channel on BOTH Left and Right side now! I was miffed then but decided the system was just too bad to the bone to send back for this problem. I bought a iMic USB unit and just went on with it.

Well, then came the New Year, and my Internal Wireless Adapter (Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN) began to act up. Since it worked SOME of the Time with one router and most of the time with another, I began replacing all of them. Using other computers with various Wireless adapters I ruled out the routers and pinpointed the Internal WiFi NIC in the 1750. At that point it finally quite working altogether so it was obvious the problem was hardware. Looked up the system on Dell.com support and found replacement parts. $35-$70 for a new one and the install looks really easy (for laptops this is not the norm!!) but I called them anyway to confirm.

Giving the Customer Support the Service Tag Number and Express Tag they told me I had another 4 months on the Warranty and they would fix it at no charge and also fix the headphone jack CORRECTLY this time. I said what the heck and again did a full backup and shipped it off. The Box was at my door the next day this time too.

It took about 11 days to get it back and this time they did WIPE OUT my system and RESTORE it. SO did I when I got it back! The Headphone Jack is working perfect and the Wireless Adapter is back to normal.

Why give this a 5 star rating when I had to have it repaired twice?

This Machine is SWEEEEET!! The keyboard response and feel is just perfect, the wrist rest and body feel like a BMW or Porsche style lines. The built in webcam is OUTSTANDING in any well lit room. The Screen is very nice and does movies or webpages better than they have ever been seen! The PENTIUM system never lags and I beat it pretty good. The wireless adapter is N/G/B and has GREAT range. The response and turnaround time for repair was very professional, easy to understand, surprisingly FAST.

I would recommend buying another Dell to ANYONE over a HP/Compaq.

My experience with this laptop would completely change my opinion of ever buying a Dell Laptop again. One I ordered it I got two. I considered keeping both and giving one to my daughter but when the hard drive went out luckily I was able to return it since I never ordered two in the first place. I kept the second one and now 6 months later and hours of time on tech support the laptop needs to be sent back because they suspect the hard drive is bad. Very dissapointed and would never buy such a vulnerable laptop again. Keep in mind, the computer never left the house and was only used minimally. What a waste of money.

REPLACING...

15" Macbook Pro, Fujitsu T730, HP TC4200

PRIMARY USAGE GOAL:

Software development / coding

* I wanted a highly portable, stylus-enabled device that could replace my existing combination of my trusty -but bulky -15" Macbook Pro for development and HP/Fujitsu for drawing. For the type of software development I do, I wanted an i5 chip and 6GB RAM minimum (with strong preference for 8+GB). This ruled out many other contenders, like the Ativ 700T and perhaps even the yet-unreleased Surface Pro. So far, the performance of the i7 Duo has been wonderful and just what I wanted.

* I also wanted a high screen-resolution to maximize real estate for my IDE and the Duo delivers with a beautiful 1920x1080 display. It also delivers a smooth and accurate touchscreen experience.

* On the down side, the optical trackpad on the Duo just doesn't compare with the excellent Mac trackpad. Today's development environments and text editing applications are still heavily mouse-oriented (read: small widgets) so an accurate pointing mechanisms are pretty important. The stylus can help offset this, but without a pen dock in the device, it's not always there when I need it. I've taken to adding a bluetooth mouse to the kit.

* The keyboard on the Duo is really solid. It looks small at first, but it's quite comfortable to use and has a satisfying touch.

SECONDARY USAGE GOALS:

digital sketching, light gaming, and portable photo/music collection

* For sketching, I really, really wanted a Wacom pen. But unfortunately, none of the Wacom-enabled devices met the CPU/memory requirements I was looking for so I had to settle. On the flip side, I've been very pleasantly surprised with the accuracy of the Duo pen once I left Photoshop behind and started using ArtRage / Sketchbook Pro instead. Just to drive this point home for artists looking at this device -this stylus does NOT support pressure sensitivity in Painter/Photoshop, but it does so wonderfully in ArtRage/SBP. PS support in PS is technically possible, but given the long history of this issue I would not hold your breath waiting for those driver updates.

One area where I've noticed it outperforms the Wacom is edge accuracy -I don't know if this is a properly representative sample, but my Wacom-enabled Fujitsu T730 was sometimes frustrating as an art platform because while the pen was accurate in the center of the screen, as you went outwards toward the edges a noticeable gap between the pen tip and screen pointer would develop. This meant I had to stay within the central area of an already smallish screen if I wanted to noodle in details. The n-trig on the Duo seems to be more accurate from edge-to-edge so I feel I can use the whole screen with confidence. (for the record, my much-beloved TC4200 did NOT seem to have the same edge-accuracy issue the Fujitsu did)

* It's been a solid gaming device so far. I'm not an FPS guy, but I've been playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Starcraft 2 with my daughter and both games have run smoothly using the default settings. I'm the type of guy who normally would rather play on a desktop just to get the extra graphical oomph and the Duo has been a satisfactory replacement.

* I wanted the biggest available SSD, 256gb, with the idea of taking my photos and music with me when I travel. However, only around 170gb was actually available for use. WTF is using up so much space? Now, after installing apps, frameworks, games and source code, I'm down to 60gb free without even loading any photos or music. Bummer. I'm probably going to have to pick up an SD card for the photos and music. Thumbs-up for the full-size SD slot though. I hope it can take a 128GB card.

WHERE I USE IT:

on desk at work and home, on lap while sitting in bed at night watching TV, on lap on trains and airplane

* I was skeptical when I first saw photos of the Duo's slider form-factor at work, but it has really turned out to be a versatile design and works comfortably both on a desk and in cramped train seating. This is one area where the technical specs couldn't help my decision, so I set out to play with my finalists, the Surface RT (while guesstimating about the Surface Pro experience), the Ativ Pro, and the Duo in stores before finally deciding on the Duo.

95% of the time I want a keyboard available, so the tablet-only modes of the both the Surface and Ativ, while nice, were of limited appeal to me. I focused on judging the devices based on form factor with keyboard attached.

The Ativ Pro has been my great hope for a laptop replacement ever since I first started looking at the Windows 8 devices a few months ago. But after finally seeing it in person, I found that the weight distribution of the Ativ Pro, while docked, was just too top/back-heavy for my liking. It reminded me a lot of my wife's HP TM2, and that is NOT a comfortable laptop to use without a steady surface for it to rest on. This unfortunate fact led me to cancel my pre-order for it and crushed my dreams of a Wacom-enabled ultraportable.

I absolutely loved the build quality of the Surface RT, but questioned whether the kickstand design would be steady enough on my lap in the train or while sitting in bed at night watching TV with my wife. I will be re-evaluating this when the Pro comes out though, since the wife also needs an upgrade.

In contrast to the two other devices, I found the Duo's slider design to be wonderfully stable. Since the screen is closer to the center of gravity of the base, it's not back-heavy like the Ativ. The flat, stable base also requires less depth to support than the Surface design w/keyboard does. I haven't tried this yet myself, but I think this is really going to turn out to be a blessing in that most uncomfortable of workspaces... the dreaded economy-class airplane seat! I am actually looking forward to it now.

* I also really, really wanted a backlit keyboard since I use my computers so much at night. I was prepared to give this feature up, though, if there was a device that hit on all the other priorities. Thankfully, it's included on the Duo and works very well! Could it have been too much to ask to light up the trackpad buttons too though?

IN SUMMARY...

The need for a stylus-enabled device with a powerful CPU, lots of RAM and a large SSD dramatically limited the field for me. Then after judging form-factor and other intangibles, there really was only one choice: the Duo.

And so far... I love it!

OTHER NOTES/NITPICKS....

* The build quality, as others have noted, feels very high quality. Even though the Duo was more expensive, I still just couldn't justify the Ativ Pro purchase after playing with both machines in person.

* Screen does feel small given the chassis. If they made a 13" display version of this in a few months... I would absolutely consider upgrading for it.

* Machine runs very cool and quiet even while being stressed. My macbook, on the other hand, will torch you when it gets a workout.

* Battery life is a bit of a letdown. I'm getting 4+ hours including lots of cpu-heavy compilation tasks, but was hoping for more.

Specs wise the machine is so much more than the Toshiba U925 but that doesn't tell the whole story. It just works better. Little things like the auto backlight and the Windows button that was iffy at best on the Toshiba just work here. Its also just much better built. There is no flex in this one because its made from metal. The screen has much better color and the resolution is twice the Toshiba, though on the desktop I would definitely play with the screen settings to make things look bigger. The one complaint I have that's not Windows 8 related is the battery. I'm getting about 5 hours. I would have liked to see better on a machine this pricey. There is and extended battery available though. All in all a winner though if you want this kind of functionality.

I bought this item some time ago and I can surely say that it is a very good product after playing around with it. Bear in mind that I like the new windows 8 and this operational system makes perfect sense for a hybrid tablet/ pc.

The screen resolution is mind blowing and the touch screen capability is very sharp. I have been using the device as a tablet and as a PC. The sound, video and mic are great too. Overall a great piece of hardware indeed. As a tablet, I find it very convenient to read books, newspapers and check on social media. The keyboard slide feature makes it easy to convert to a tablet or full laptop mode. I think the Duo 11 very light, but as a tablet it is a bit heavy. On the other hand it would be impossible to make as light as the IPAD I realize that. In fact, I find the design simple and sharp and Sony got a nice compromise between laptop/ Tablet in my opinion.

As a laptop, I cannot complain either. The duo 11 is packed with ports and the specs are great (something other models are missing). I went for the 256 SSD hard drive with 8 gig of Ram. The performance is stunning and boots pretty fast and I have been working with it just fine writing reports, emails and running simulations.

It took me sometime, however, to get used with the keyboard. The back light feature of the keyboard make it easy to use it at night and after a while I find the keyboard comfortable.

The only downside is the trackball which is very sensitive. I use a wireless mouse instead. The other downside is the battery which does not hold for long. I may have some guilt on this because I use the hybrid as a tablet therefore using more the device.

All in all I am satisfied and the device has successfully replaced both the tablet and laptop I used to have,

Honest reviews on Sony Open Box VAIO(R) Duo 11 SVD11215CXB 11.6" Capacitive

This is my first review on Amazon. I own following tablets

1. ASUS BP121 Core i5, 8GB Ram, 256 GB HDD with Wacom Pen

2. Fujitsu Stylistic Q702, Core i5 Ivy Bridge, 256 GB HDD, 4GB Ram with 4th Generation N TRIG Pen

3. SONY VAIO DUO 11, Core i7, 255 HDD, 8GB RAM

4. Samsung ATIV Pro PC, 128GB HDD, 4GB RAM, Core i5 Ivy Bridge.

User Profile: Executive with Engineering and Technology Background. Time to time I like to do bit of programming or running programs with heavy process / ram utilisation. 95%+ time emails, and smaller process utilization.

I will be selling all tablets on eBay except Sony for following reasons.

1. Build Quality: Sony build quality is superior when compared to all other tablet above. The screen is Full HD and it is superior.

2. Core i7 Ivy Bridge process with 8GB Ram beats every other tablet performance in market. Even the latest Lenovo Helix is rumored only to have MAX 4GB ram.

3. Connectivity on this hybrid is superior when compare to other tablets. E.g. it has VGA support, HDMI and 2 USB 3.0 ports.

4. I like the fact it has a slider keyboard.

5. There is no heating issues and fan noise is minimal. Only if you put the tablet close to your ears you can hear the fan.

6. Pen is very responsive.

Issues with this Device.

1. 200-300 heavier. It would be better if carbon or any other light weight materials are used in future for decreasing the weight.

2. The N-TRIG pen is not attached with laptop, however they have provided a nice sleeve which has tablet pen holder.

3. Battery life can be improved. Currently 3 Hrs. battery life is not good enough. Considering when travelling you would need more battery life. However if you are using this machine more in office and home then it's not any issue. As you most of the time it will be connected with power adapter.

4. No LTE / 3G support

Closet competitor to this product would be Fujitsu Stylistic Q702. Fujitsu Q702 is a perfect device except following issues. If the 8GB ram did not exist I would have retained this tablet.

1. Heating: you can feel the heat when holding the tablet.

2. MAX RAM is 4GB, which is generally not enough. Well not enough for me

3. Build quality is not superior.

4. The screen is not HD.

*** Quick edit / update: I need to say that all around, this is a very good laptop. It performs well and has a great keyboard with a more than adequate screen. It has touch screen capability and has plenty of ports. It is small enough to be mobile and powerful enough to be a desktop replacement. All in all, a solid, solid machine. You will get good value from this machine and should do great for many years.

First of all, the Dell 15R here is a solid performer in all areas except one. I would certainly give it a solid 5 stars for performance and value except for one detail. The screen resolution. I am not sure why all the windows 8 laptops that have touch enabled have moved to this lower resolution. The resolution is slightly better than 720p, but not by much. The additional cost to upgrade a screen size to full 1080p couldn't have been that large. So it makes me think it must have something to do with the touch screen interface and the ability of windows 8.

Anyway the keyboard is fantastic, the battery life is very respectable (I was able to get 5 hours + of decent use), and it has a good array of usb ports, a dvd drive, a HDMI port, and a sd card reader. This is really best designed for students that need a laptop that they can do everything at the dorm and occasionally pack it up and take it to the library.

The finish is good, but when when you pick it up, it has the plastic bottom. Bummer. It feels very solid and I have no doubt the quality of the machine will allow it to last.

Pro's:

1. Solid and capable construction with a nice brushed aluminum look tot he cover and keyboard area

2. Fantastic keyboard that is wonderful to type on. Good travel and no flex.. Awesome ..

3. Very fast processor, good drive space (500GB), and good amount of RAM

4. Has all the ports you need and a dvd drive

5. Good price with tech support (not mom and dad at 10 pm on a wed night yippie!)

6. Touch screen, but this is low on the list. I am not sure that the touchscreen is all that useful for 99% of the work you do an a laptop ... I think it is kinda gimmicky ...

Cons:

1. Plastic bottom, with no sex appeal :(

2. Low Screen resolution

3. Windows 8 (jury is still out, but I like windows 7, hopefully windows 8.1 will bring back the productivity of win 7)

Otherwise, you cannot beat the affordability and the "bang for the buck" in productive tasks. It works, it is fast, and will handle anything you throw at it. Any student will be able to do whatever school work and more on this machine. Just be warned, that if your new college student is at all socially minded and wants to be like the other kids, they will want a mac. While Dell has done a good job at making an attempt at a sexy laptop, it just doesn't compare to a sexy macbook.

This is an effort to match the affordability and raw horsepower of a Dell, but also adding some design elements (cover and keyboard platform in brushed aluminum) to give it some respectability, just wait to pick it up and put it away when everyone else isn't looking.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is a very good laptop, and overall nice parts overweight its issues. However the price is approaching ultraportable levels, so the choice is not a clear cut one.

First the things I liked:

The touch input actually works. The combination of the touch screen, with the trackpad makes both local movements (like scrolling), and targeted movements (like closing a window) very easy to perform. The Dell configuration application is very useful for this purpose. Yet, I should say that I could not get some of the trackpad gestures working.

There is actually little "crapware" installed on the system. I only needed to uninstall the antivirus, and some Intel drives (you would not need RAID on a laptop). This is of course if you like the installed OS that comes with the system.

Overall performance is very good, the boot speed is fast, and applications rarely slow down. The only thing I would recommend after switching the antivirus program is getting an SSD. I could not find this model offered with such on option neither here on Amazon nor on Dell's own site. This makes the installation harder. Unfortunately UEFI and OS migration rarely work smoothly.

It is very silent. The third generation core processor helps keep the fan off most of the time.

The laptop seems to be upgradeable. There is easy access to RAM, disk, and several other on board items. If you need more headroom in the future, this might help keep your options open.

The battery life is rather good. I can use it for a few days without needing a recharge. My usage is light, but the battery easily lasts more than six hours in total.

There are a few bad parts though:

The port locations are not optimal. The USB on the right side is on the middle, below the optical drive. This makes connecting a wired mouse more difficult than necessary.

The SD card reader is only USB 2.0. I understand that USB 3 bandwidth is precious, and better spent on regular ports, however given recent expansion of SD storage, I would prefer to transfer my media faster. An HD recording easily takes 10GB per hour depending on bitrates.

The driver update failed on the first run. Generally OEM software for these kind of purposes are really low quality, and Dell's updater is only slightly above average.

Wifi did not work on 5GHz band. For most apartments, this is a less congested option than the regular 2.4GHz.

My overall judgement about this laptop is positive. While there are annoyances, they are minor. This is a job well done by Dell.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I have a mixed relationship with Dell laptops. I have been using or helping those who are using Dell laptops since about 2004. They had a great build quality then, great service and prices. But, it seems that Dell goes up and down in quality as the years past. You never know if you're buying during a lemon year (2008) or a great year (2006). I note those years because those are specific laptops. My wife had one from late 2008 and it was constantly causing problems. Constantly crashing, restarting, freezing. It was always a bother, even with lots of attention. Finally died entirely early last year.

On the other side, I got a laptop in very early 2007. Still use it. I've replaced some parts here and there, like the touchpad and keyboard and LED screen. But, it keeps on ticking. Works great. We got a Dell Desktop in 2010 and it works great.

So I want to like Dell, but I've known others who have mixed stories like we do, and so I'm cautious.

Dell has a winner with the Inspiron 15R here. I recommend it absolutely. It's not a sleek, light laptop, but you have to pay a fair amount more for that. It's really the laptop that has been around for about 10 years, updated with contemporary technology. And updated well.

First of all, it has Windows 8. Windows 8 can be a real bother for all kinds of reasons, but I find this computer works as well with it as possible. No glitches or crashes or any problems. My wife has an HP model of similar build and price, and it seems to have consistent problems with drivers or other concerns which cause a freeze. After 6 weeks of constant use of this (I'm a professor and writer), not a single problem. The trick to getting Windows 8 to work right is a very cheap program called Start8. Look it up online, made by stardock. It basically restores Windows 7 convenience while still making use of Windows 8 functionality.

As to this computer. The touchscreen works wonderful, though, I find I have to remind myself to use it. I'm used to the old fashioned way. Add to this the problem that Microsoft insists on Windows 8 having a touchscreen look, while not really making a touchscreen all that necessary. For instance, the Office programs have very little touchscreen functionality that I've found. It's good for apps and such but basically a distraction.

Features include USB 3.0, which is the newer standard and makes USB transfers extremely fast. Which usually isn't a big concern except for backing up onto an external hard drive. And with only 500GB of space on this computer, I'd definitely recommend an external if you're doing any multimedia. There's also an HDMI out, which is wonderful, but there's no VGA out, so if you're planning to use this for presentations you might need to get an adapter.

This 15R has strong wi-fi and bluetooth, picking up and holding onto signals better. I have a Onkyo CS-355 CD Hi-Fi Mini System with Bluetooth. The bluetooth signals from other laptops I tried would be very, very tentative. Move the wrong way, signal is lost. Sit the wrong way (like with the laptop on your lap) it would lose the signal. With this laptop, it's consistent and strong. Another one of those minor strengths that points to the overall build quality of this laptop and the components they are using. In other words, they're not shoving in cheap and sketchy components just in order to boast about features. The features work and they work well.

The memory is 6GB, which is probably the minimum for good running computers these days, however, it's easily upgraded. It often costs more to have higher memory upfront than to upgrade later.

Video works solid, HD though not the highest resolution. Honestly, you probably won't notice. I don't notice a big difference between my computer and my wife's, which has a dedicated video card and higher resolution. Such dedicated cards take away battery life and add complexity to the system, resulting in more problems.

The touchscreen itself is great. Multi-touch, meaning it can sense at least ten points of contact. I only have 10 fingers, so that's all I was willing to test. Very sensitive, very fluid. There are good apps that do make use of it well.

My one complaint has to do with the screen. Very glossy which means very reflective. Turn it on and you're looking at yourself in a reflection. It has good brightness, so mostly overcomes this, but if you're working outside a lot, this might be an issue.

All in all, I'm exceedingly pleased with this model. I'm not entirely sold on touchscreen necessity yet, but the great thing about this is it's a bit more future-proofed should software (like Word or Powerpoint!) be increasingly more touchscreen optimized. It makes for a great bridge between a traditional laptop and a workable tablet like access. Great for school or work. It has worked well with all the software I've used and that includes Microsoft Office, the new Adobe Suite, Corel Painter, and other multimedia. Not a glitch, or a problem to note at all.

Highly recommend if you're looking for a workhorse laptop with a touchscreen.

Honest reviews on Dell Inspiron 15R i15RMT-5099SLV 15.6-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (Moon

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program First of all, this laptop ships with Windows 8, "Metro" user interface and all. This isn't going to be a review of Windows 8, but users should be aware that it's a huge and weird UI shift anyhow.

Second, it has a touch screen. You might not think you want it, but this is a surprisingly great feature for everyday tasks like web-surfing and scrolling as you read documents. It's not perfect -I found it sometimes mistook a swipe for a click, with unintended results, and it's very hard to tap small targets -but it's pretty good. The screen itself is somewhat thicker, and feels more like the image is under glass (rather than like the pixels are right at the surface), as a result, but it's a reasonable tradeoff for the neat functionality.

The 15R's hardware specs are all very reasonable, especially considering the price. But before buying, check the pricing on the 8 GB / 1000 GB model before purchasing -the prices fluctuate, and sometimes the more capacious unit seems to be available for a very small upcharge over this one.

The other thing to realize is that it's a very big and bulky laptop. It's every bit as thick and clunky in shape as you might think, and it's much heavier than the claimed weight -Dell's data sheet says it has a 5.1 lb "starting weight," whatever that is, but the actual laptop (with battery, but without counting the power adapter) weighs 5 lbs 13 oz on my scale. I wish they wouldn't lie about these numbers. And for all the size, the keyboard is quite small and fiddly in feel, and off-center, because they've added a numeric keypad. Which is great if you need that, but otherwise makes typing words less pleasant.

All in all, despite a few minor flaws, this is a great low-end laptop for Windows 8 users. Recommended.

I hate trying to pick out a computer. So many options, so hard to decide. I finally narrowed it down to this one and then spent time trying to find the best price (which honestly changes from day to day on many sites). I have a just about figured out windows 8 and the computer works great. Of course my old computer was 85 years old in computer years (5 years), so this machine seems like a wonder comparatively.

I bought the Toshiba Satellite L755-S5271 to replace my previous laptop, a Sony VAIO VGN-CS110E that simply died on me after only 3 years of use. So far I am extremely satisfied with the Toshiba; it has everything in the latest technology, and is at an unbeatable price ($499.99). The screen is bright and sharp, the operation is fast and smooth, and the machine is quiet (unlike my Sony whose CPU fan makes a loud and unpleasant noise only after 2 years). It is said that Toshiba has the second best reliabiliby in the industry, next to Asus, and my husband has owned a Satellite since 2005 and it's still working well today.

So at $500, I think this Toshiba far exceeds the performance of some higher brand laptop computers. I was most worried about the battery life and while I do not know how long it will last, so far the battery is giving me about 6 hrs on eco setting and trust me, I have 8 Google Chrome tabs open, Outlook, notebook and Word and the computer is still faster than my old Dell Inspiron and my old Toshiba L45. On balanced level, I think I got about 3 hrs out of the laptop. In terms of the performance speed and capability, I am not saying that the performance is gaming level, but I think if this computer is for basic work or school, you will not be disappointed. In regards to shipping, the shipping on the computer was super fast and as advertised, I got it in the time period allotted.

Cons:

** Space bar a little too compact/short

** Speakers are crap

** To much pre-loaded Toshiba junk (easily removable in Control Panel)

UPDATEAugust 28th, 2011

**The Good**

1) Laptop is still exceeding my expectations on performance and speed. I have up to 16 browser tabs open at times in addition to Word and graphic files and the performance is still better than my old Dell Inspiron and Toshiba Satellite combined

**The Bad**

1) So this laptop is so sensitive in that in the middle of typing, it will resize your windows; one of the drawbacks of having a touchpad that is flush with the suface of the laptop. You can however, adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad.

2) My other issue is more with the preloaded Windows 7 than an actual issue with the computer itself. If you do a search on Windows 7 issues, one of the known issues is how Windows 7 and the synaptic device on the computer interacts. Basically, when you type on the keyboard, the information does not show up, rather, new tabs or windows pop open. If you are using a browser window, trying to type info into the address bar will actually open a new window. This has been proving extremely annoying and so far the only way I have found (short of disabling touchpad/mouse)is to ctrl+alt+del and then log out and log back in.

Best Deals for Toshiba Satellite L755-S5271 15.6-Inch LED Laptop (Grey)

In my opinion this is the best laptop on the market for the price. I bought this because my previous laptop stopped working after three years of use and after reading the specs on this laptop it caught my attention. I think the best thing about it is that it's VERY fast! And quite honestly I think that is the most important thing to most people, especially me. The hard drive is huge and can hold many many videos and music files. I've never owned a Toshiba but doing research has lead me to the fact that they are ranked as one of the top three manufactures of laptops! In terms of use, it was very easy to set up, the mouse pad is great and feels great, the keyboard is easy to use, and the battery is AMAZING. My previous laptop would only last 2 hours on a full charge, so this is a HUGE improvement. Although I haven't had it very long, I am excited to be using it for the upcoming semester.

Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite L755-S5271 15.6-Inch LED Laptop (Grey)

Included below are parts of my initial review and updates as product, customer service and warranty got worse. MY FINAL REVIEW: Not only is this particular model so poorly made that I probably got 3 months decent use during the 8 months I've owned it and the 2nd one since Amazon replaced the first defective laptop; the rest of the time was spent making phone calls regarding this product. I spent more time, money and mental energy than it's worth to end up owning a lump of computer parts that I can do nothing with. TOSHIBA HAS HORRIBLE POST SALE CUSTOMER SERVICE, case #s disappear and the last straw was a Case Manager telling me: "why did you take the laptop to that dealer, he is not authorized to work on YOUR MODEL LAPTOP take it to civil court that's all I can tell you" ... as if I chose this auth svc dealer myself, or they never knew what model I had after all the "case numbers" and conversations. ALl I have now from this incident is a pile of computer components that I can't even sell or give to anyone. I hope no one purchased one of these because of my initial review. Furthermore, I'll never review a product until I've used it for 6 mos or more I may not even review anything let alone ever purchase a product by TOSHIBA. If Amazon was not presently trying to get Toshiba to do something about the laptop, the authorized svc dealer then I'd never buy another item over $50.00 from Amazon. I'm just thoroughly disgusted and amazed at the business ethics I've encountered due to this laptop and advise everyone to not even think twice about purchasing this. I will contact every Consumer Affairs, BBB and anyone so that no one goes through what I have in the past 8 months. I cannot even express the anger and disappointment I feel strongly enough in this final review.

*************** WORST TRANSACTION IN MY LIFE**************

* this is PART of my first review after one month of use:

"The hard drive died within 2 weeks of purchase. I liked how it performed while it did, so I ordered my current L755-S5271 (Fortunately Amazon [POP] has great warranty service).Toshiba Satellite L755D-S5279 15.6-Inch LED Laptop (Grey)I think this is a great laptop for me as an artist..."

****REVISED 12.11.11********** 5 MONTHS LATER, AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH USB PORTS; INTERMITTENT CONNECTIONS. will see if I still think each company has such great warranty/tech service today, already had to exchange initial order due to Hard Drive***********

++++++REVISED REVIEW 02-02-12 DO NOT RISK YOUR FINANCES AND MENTAL HEALTH BUYING THIS LAPTOP!!!

I feel I have to delete all the great things my initial review included about this laptop as they don't matter one bit when the computer they are part of breaks down approx every 35 days. I'll NEVER EVEN CONSIDER A TOSHIBA AGAIN. As of today the laptop has cost close to $1K in parts that were never authorized by me to order. I wont go into what this laptop has cost me in mental stress, anxiety medication and doctor visits. I'll try to be brief as possible; Toshiba has a questionable method for who they allow to be called: Certified authorized toshiba repair tech". Toshiba has no concern for anyone once they've made a purchase. I would not bother writing this if I felt even slightly that the things that happened to this laptop could've been caused by me. I may take this story to a News COnsumer Advocates journalist when I've recovered from this epic error in judgement, purchasing this laptop and wonder if I ever trust another review on a product. THIS COMPUTER IS ONLY 7 MONTHS OLD and the second one I've owned in 8 months. If this alone doesn't convince you to run fast and far from this model or if you really want to know all that's transpired in the past month between me, Toshiba and their authorized agents please feel free to contact me via Amazon. I cannot write this atrocity of a ridiculous tale one more time without being heavily medicated to stop my hands from shaking in anger and frustration. The computer was great when it DID work, but in retrospect I now realize Ie spent more time trying to find out what happened to the computer than I spent actually using it. If anyone would like further detail on what kind of "authorized service techs" Toshiba let's represent them and their post-purchase attitude towards consumers, againfeel free to contact me via Amazon. I have documentation and receipts and every reference number that has to do with the things that have happened during the 8 months of owning a L755-S5271. I'm already living with the guilt that someone may have read my initial review on this product and purchased one. I had no idea things like this could even happen to a computer ..OR THAT A COMPANY CAN TREAT PEOPLE IN THIS MANNER POST SALE. ....... was RETURNED with TOTALLY DEAD BATTERY which "should not be connected to the laptop again" when it had a life of 2-3 hrs PRIOR TO ENTERING THAT SHOP only because i left it attached to laptop which was being diagnosed for 75.00 after a phone call to Toshiba would only answer my question for 38.00 because someone read the wrong customer info and told me my Warranty was no longer valid. ..... If these and the other malfunctions didn't happen to ME I'd never believe this story. I'm just warning anyone considering this laptop ...

I just got this laptop a few weeks ago and I am very impressed with it. It took me the best part of a day to bring it up to speed but after all the updates, getting rid of bloatware, and loading my own programs it is working great and I see no problems with it. True it is not a $2000 laptop but for what I need it for it might as well be. I have a $2000 HP elitebook which my company gave me for work and this Toshiba matches it in speed and that is with the 1st genration I5 processor. I am definitely happy with so far for the price. The free Avast 6.0 is working with it fine and not causing problems. With an addtional hardware proactive firewall I feel pretty safe. I would definitely reccommend this computer to anyone who just wants an everyday computer and wants to get the biggest bang for their buck. This is my first Toshiba. They have a good rep for build quality and failure rates so I am hoping it will last longer than my Dell which was all of three years. I let you know what I feel 6 months from now if this laptop is still up on Amazon.

I personally think everything about this laptop is flawless. I have owned the asus ultrabook and an ipad and several asus tablets like the transformer 300 and such in the past. This laptop is a combination of all the great things of the 3 devices about with only 2 cons (battery life and a bit on the heavy side) in my opinion.

I spend every waking moment on a laptop for work, and pleasure. This thing goes with me everywhere. Its a little heavier than the ipad but it blows it out of the water in so many other respects.

First off, let me tell you, the only reason I am comparing this device to an ipad is becuase it has an excellent touch screen functionality that has allowed me to work on it full time using only the touch screen. I have had tablets in the past, and (besides the ipad) they have never been able to function for me smooth enough without frustration.

But i digress, here are the pros and cons

Pros: Speed (fastest processor currently available)

Functionality (full windows 8 platform can run any program smoothly, even games)

Touch (smooth and silky and responsive, pen is good for precision if you have too fat fingers for the high resolution

Sound quality (outstanding stereo hands down better than any of the other 3 devices i mentioned)

cons: heavy and battery life 3 hours only without extra battery

If you want to read books, buy a kindle. If you want to read books, watch movies, play a game bought from an app store...buy a kindle, or an Ipad. If you want to actually get things done on your computer. Load powerful software (the kind that costs more than $.99. This is the computer I have been waiting for and so far I love it. The processor is fast. The machine is responsive. And I can put any software for windows I want on it. I considered the Surface pro, the Samsung Ativ 700t and even a Sony vaio Tap 20. Because I got an awesome deal I went with this one and I have not been one tiny bit disappointed. It's power belies its size. I am running a Dell u3011 monitor through it. No lag, no problems. I have an ipad, which was great for the above mentioned uses. But I could never get any real work done on it. I wanted something that I could lay in bed, sit on the couch, use on the train to work in lightroom, photoshop, corel painter, adobe illustrator, and I found it. While I am also building a workstation desktop, this is serving as my main computer for now and it has not let me down once. And let me tell you something. I got rid of my MacBook Pro 17 inch to go to this computer and it was a great decision. I can't recommend this machine enough to people who want to do more than play on their machine.

Pros: Size, cool factor, 8gb Ram, 256GB SSD, built in HDMI output, beautiful screen, I can use it as a tablet when I feel like it and use it to do actual work. The best part? REAL WINDOWS! I'm not locked into anyone's "App store" anymore.

Cons: the keyboard takes some getting used to. I wish it had a DVI out for using my monitor at full 2550 x 1600 Resolution instead of the limitations of HDMI and VGA.

I just got this a few days ago after much research and trying to decide between it and the Lenovo Yoga and couldn't be happier with the choice. I got the extra battery and can go for days between charges (although I'm not a serious gamer and only use it a few hours a day mostly for business) unlike my HP with less than 1 1/2 hour battery life. I set it up to use my Microsoft presenter/mouse, but with the digitizer stylus and optical sensor, I haven't had to use the mouse yet...and may never have to. And I'm using the stylus much more than I thought.

It's amazing how little things make a big difference. With this device, you just take it out of its case or whatever, turn it on and start using it. If you need the keyboard (and I use that less than I expected so far), just pop up the screen. With the Lenovo, you have to first open it, turn it all the way around if you want to use it as a tablet, turn it on, and then use it. Those extra steps are just a pain.

Windows 8 does take some getting used to, but I haven't found anything I don't like about it once I figure out how to use the various features. And there is a lack of documentation on how to use the apps, e.g., Note Anywhere looks like a great product, but learning it is trial & error.

Another big plus is the connectivity. I do a lot of PowerPoint presentations, often using clients' projectors...which "all" have a VGA connector. With the Duo, I don't have to carry a VGA adapter dongle just plug it in. Ditto with the full size HDMI port and SD slot.

My HP laptop is now my "desktop computer" and one of the issues I've been wresting with is how to sync the two since they both run Windows & Microsoft Office. Files can be handled by putting them in the cloud, but email & calendars in Outlook were a problem. After much research (again), I decided to go with Office 365 on both computers (and on my Windows phone which I'll get whenever a good one comes out) it's working flawlessly so far.

Amazingly, this computer is rated at about 3 stars by professional reviewers and a solid 5 stars by users/owners go figure.

More to follow as I get more into it.

Honest reviews on Sony VAIO Duo 11 SVD11225CXB 11.6-Inch Capacitive Touchscreen

This is a really good laptop. It is a laptop, not a tablet, although there are certainly times the tablet functionality is rather handy. As a laptop, it is great. Very fast, in all respects. The high resolution screen allows a great deal of information to be on the screen at once (eg excel columns) even thought it is a relatively small screen. So you have the best of all worlds, a small device, with a very useful screen for doing real work. Once you are used to the mouse mechanism, it works as good as any track pad (although, like every laptop I have owned for 10 years, I keep a wireless mouse handy for when I am at a table or desk). The small keyboard is NOT too small, you can type on it as well as any other keyboard, and I have big hands.

I really, really like it.

I've had this computer for about two months and it has met all of my expectations as far as speed, functionality, and battery life. I can play music through my bluetooth headset for over four hours while other programs are running in the back ground (streaming from pandora, downloading large files, etc).

There are two downsides:

1. When browsing (I use Chrome), tapping the screen can lead to inadvertent clicks. If you tap the screen near a link or button (not actually tapping the button) the button or link will be clicked. This is useful if you have poor depth perception or spacial acuity, but if you are just trying to select the chrome window or deselect something you have highlighted, you don't want to accidentally click on some advertisement in the process. There may be a way to fix this, but I haven't yet found it. It could be a windows 8 thing, and not the fault of the computer.

2. The second annoying thing is the keyboard. I have small hands and the size doesn't bother me, but the lack of key sensitivity does. If you don't hit these keys square on and press them all the way down, they won't register. I cant tell you how many times I have had to go back and add in missing letters while typing this review alone. Very annoying.

The sound quality is good, but the volume is not very loud. I tried to watch a movie outside on the deck, but the sound was drowned out by the chirping of the crickets and cicadas. I had to resort to a bluetooth speaker.

My stylus broke within the first week (I knelt on it), but sony said they would send me another no problem.

Everything else works as advertised and I am very satisfied!
