GT60-ONE

Just a little backround, I build my own computers and also do so for my friends and family, probably about 20 or so over the years. I am not a professional, nor do i claim to be any type of expert, however i do have a decent amount of insight and knowledge in modern PCs. I also do a lot of research on the components i buy.

First let me start with the Cons, so you know upfront what you are dealing with.

This laptop is quite large and heavy for a 15/16 inch laptop, which is to be expected for a gaming laptop. The laptop is about the size of most normal 17" laptops. It is about 15 3/8"W x 10 7/16"D x 1 9/16 in the front to 2 1/8"H -this includes the feet in the rear. Whether you deem this "portable" is based on personal preference and uses. For me, being basically a portable Desktop that i can take to other locations, it is definetly portable and i dont mind carrying this around. (I have a tablet and a phone to use for light web surfing/social/media applications/checking scores etc)

The power brick is also quite large but yet a little slim at 6 3/4"x 3 1/4" x 1 9/16". You should basically expect to use most 17" laptop bags/carrying cases/backpacks.

Turbo Fan setting is loud, I would liken it to tower style fan (home fan, not desktop tower) on high setting loud. However while the noise level gets up there, it isnt irratating loud and has very little whine to it IMO. Seems like a great feature to use while alone and using headphones as the cooling boost is nice. Of course this can be turned on/off very easily

Windows 8.... still havn't found a reason to like it, it feels a bit more clunky to use than Windows 7. I am debating installing windows 7 back onto this computer.

No SSD, for the price it is debatable whether this is a negative, I installed my own SSD on the side so i can have a boot 250GB ssd and use the 750GB as a disk drive. Performance does suffer compared to any SSD laptop, so for the price i would definetly recommend an SSD.

There is shiny plastic around the screen, which sometimes can be annoying if it gets hit with the right light angle.

So with all of that said, here is what you get.

For basically $1900 -$2000 w/Mail in rebate (price of SSD included) you get:

GTX680M probably the reason most of you are looking at this laptop, It is also the 4GB version. This thing performs. Dont expect 680 Desktop performance, but for something you can carry around, you play most games at Ultra, or high and get great FPS. My 3Dmark 11 (No Overclocking) scores are about 6200 or 3000 or so less compared to my Ivy I7 GTX670 4GBVRAM Desktop. Keep in mind my desktop graphics car alone is probably 1/3 the size of this entire computer!

Optimus I get between 2 1/2 Hours to 3 1/2 hours off the plug depending what am doing. Keep in mind though that performance is throttled down when off the plug, so dont expect full performance off the plug. To me this is exceptional for a gaming laptop with desktop performance.

I7 3630QM slight upgrade from standard I7 Ivy QM, probably not much difference, but nice upgrade.

12GB Ram dont need to put extra ram in which saves some $.

15.6" 1080P Matte HD screen This screen is really really nice. Comapred to my desktop screens which are samsung LED's of last year, the screen on my laptop is noticibly better. It is bright, and clear, and most importantly has no glare (switching from an Alienware this is a huge difference). It is not one of those 95% NTSC High Gamut screens, however it also does not need color calibration programs which can be tricky to operate in some games and look off without proper calibration software, and also all of these screens cost extra on top if you buy Clevo Chassis Laptops.

Steel Series Keyboard this is one of those preferences, but i like the keyboard, it has a nice feel to it, and the backlight and customization are nice. Keys aren't quite full mechanical, but also not close to mushy like a lot of other laptops, a little firmer than my alienware which i liked for gaming. The keys have to me a 3/4 satisfying click of a mechanical keyboard id say, which is pretty darn good for a laptop keyboard.

Blu-Ray Burner! Pretty awesome to have a blu-ray burner not that i would burn any movies or anything. I think all nice laptops these days should come standard with atleast a blu-ray player. It is definetly a plus to be able to watch blu-rays on this nice of screen on the road without having to carry an extra drive. Also Blu-ray Disk rewrittables anyone?

Dynaudio Speakers I can say that these are without a doubt the best speakers I have personally heard on a laptop. The sound quality is really impressive for laptop speakers. The sub isnt that powerful, but the overall sound quality is really exceptional. I'm not an audiophile, but I have a decently trained ear. A lot of people try and compare these to their 5.1 or 7.1 home speakers saying how its not that good, but there is no comparison IMO because i am not going to carry a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system or even a 2.1 speaker system around with me ever.

Killer 1202 Fast Dual band 2xMIMO wifi card, and also has bluetooth. Very impressed with the speed of the Killer Wifi cards overall.

750GB 7200RPM HD + (should add) SSD IMO this isnt too bad a deal. just add in your own ssd and use the 750gb as a disk drive since it is atleast 7200 rpm.

Has a nice combination of ports, no DVI, but it has HDMI, displayport, and VGA, USB2/3, esata ports. Also I like that the Ethernet port is on the back, I didnt like that my Alienware had the Ethernet on the side.

Cooling works well, laptop stays cool even during gaming. I havn't run any prime test because this thing performs perfectly for what I wanted to do out of the box minus the SSD and probably windows 8.

Build Quality Brushed Aluminum Wrist area and back cover, lots of plastic everywhere else. Doesnt bother me other than fingerprints, however I have not met too many laptops that are not fingerprint magnets! Overall Build Quality is good, not macbook level, but until macbooks can fit a 680M and/or even come close to the price with that card, I think this is your best bet if you want a GTX680M Gaming Laptop.

So In Summary,

Here were my guidlines

Must have:

Intel I7 Ivy Bridge

GTX680M-4GB or AMD 7970M (680M prefered due to speed and optimus if included)

1080P Screen nice looking hopefully:)

Killer 1202

Like design (Obviously preference)

Let me start out by saying I wanted the Asus G75 or G55. I like the design, and i actually buy Asus over MSI unless price is more of a concern.

Here is too me what is wrong with each of the computers and why I did not buy them.

Asus G55/G75 Weak Video cards, great design, but 660m-675M just doesnt cut it for me, especially for the same or more $.

Alienware IMO comparable to Apple Build quality. All these people who rag on alienware, they probably are just haters or just repeating things they heard. They are actually not overpriced anymore, and have the best warrenty/service and build quality of the gaming manufactuers IMO. But their prices are still too high for certain configurations and they do overcharge for add ons. Their best deal was for a 7970M, however while the 7970M is comparible, the Enduro issues and the fact you have to add on the 1080P screen just made this laptop too expensive for the configuration (considering how well priced the GT60ONE is). Oh and they charge Tax which adds on.

IbuyPower Best hardware for price, build quality and brand is questionable still. Very intriguing, however Not looking to burn 2K on a brand i dont really knowthey used to be mostly a pc building operation.

Samsung Nice build premium price, 675MX which is about 30 percent slower than the 680M.

Clevo Brands more expensive for same build, custom build time. I was set to get a sager or mythlogic, however the better speakers, better 720P webcam, better keyboard, mic not being on the keyboard all drove me to the MSI. Basically for what i paid overall, I am spending $200-$300 less for the MSI that has better speakers, about the same build quality, a better keyboard, better warrenty, 2HDD bays instead of 1, and I can buy it from Amazon!

Overall I am very pleased, It is a Great computer. Still trying to get used to windows 8. What really set this over the top for me is the speakers. I watch a lot of movies/netflix when I am on trips along with gaming. These speakers do not disappoint. Oh an Very little bloatware!

I've had this laptop for just over a week. I installed an SSD in the second drive bay and had a pretty annoying experience completing a clean install my Windows 8 Pro license, but that is not MSI's fault in any way. I ended up having to install Windows 7 and then "upgrade" to Windows 8 in order to get my install to work.

Now for the good:

This thing performs as expected based on other reviews and the hardware included. It handles everything I've thrown at it thus far with ease (Total War: Shogun 2, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Borderlands 2) on high/max settings. It gets a bit warm in the upper left hand area of the keyboard under heavy load, but not disturbingly so. The speakers are very nice for a laptop. The potential volume output is great. The multi-touch pad is acceptable but nothing special (as in don't expect Apple touch pad like response, but you can 2 finger scroll and swipe in from the sides).

The not so good:

The build quality appears to be pretty bad. My unit has a few apparent problems. The plastic panel to the left of the power button pops out and will not stay in place. The backspace key is finicky and has to be hit just right to consistently respond. The keyboard itself doesn't seem to be fitted properly. There is a noticeable bulge/warp to it around the o/p/bracket keys. I'm probably going to need to make a warranty claim on it, but I'm concerned they will deny it because I "tampered" with the laptop by installing the SSD. I'll update on that later, if there is anything to report.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the performance of this thing, but am disappointed with the build quality. When I spend this kind of money on a laptop, I want to feel completely satisfied with my purchase. In this case, that cannot truthfully be said. If MSI stands behind the product and gets these issues taken care of, I will be a very content/happy customer!

I own the MSI GX660R so I have enjoyed that enough to purchase another MSI Gaming Laptop.

Build Quality and Stuff:

I recently purchased this computer from another reseller and so far I have had zero complaints. I own the 15.6" variant so I could fit it into most laptop bags. The build quality is very good. It feels solid throughout. The body is mostly brushed black aluminum and the keyboard feels very sturdy,(more than the GX660R, mostly plastic body). It has a Steel Series brand keyboard which is an attempt to make it like a mechanical keyboard for laptops. They did a good job too because typing on this computer is a joy for me. The GX660R would flex a bit, but not this keyboard. It also lights up just like you see in the picture. It is fully customizable in color so you can make it what you want. It can light up in different modes as well. The sound system on this computer is the best I have ever heard for a laptop. Its not some low budget sound system I hear in most other machines. My build uses the stock screen and I must say that screen is amazing. The clarity is just brilliant. I wanted to get the 95% color gamut but couldn't justify it as I would mostly be using an external monitor (ASUS VE278Q). The laptop screen blows the doors off my external monitor though. The touchpad is nice as well. Although I rarely use it, it gets the job done. Built-in webcam is clear. Hinges on this computer feel solid. I have had zero issues with my previous MSI so I only expect improvement from here on out.

Performance:

This machine is currently able to run every game I have thrown at it. That isn't saying much in my opinion. What matters is that I can run mostly every game at the highest graphical settings in the native resolution of 1920 x 1080. Now that is saying something. The frame rates on this computer are sometimes choppy though depending on the game. Maybe I can get some feedback from someone who has encountered this problem and resolved it. I am currently playing Borderlands 2 and I get mostly 50fps but there are some instances where the frames drop to close to 16. I believe this to be a driver issue and here is why(Nvidia 310.90 Driver at the time of writing). If I stand still in that spot of low frames, the frames slowly ramp back up to the 50ish range (waiting 5 seconds or so). As I move around after the frames rise, they stay high and don't drop again until I arrive somewhere else completely new. Its like the video card doesn't know I need that power now, not in 5 seconds. I also am experimenting with the Nvidia Optimizer in hopes that this issue would be resolved, but no luck yet. I also signed up for the GeForce Experience but this appears to be in closed beta and I have not gotten an invite yet. I have also been playing WoW MoP, Saints Row 3, and BF3. All of these games pretty much run flawlessly and stay around 40-60fps.

I almost didn't buy this computer because I wanted to wait for the Haswell chip sets that I heard are coming out next but I think they were backed up to 2014 or something? Either way this machine makes me happy. I use it for everything, work and play. No regrets after 3 weeks of ownership. This machine is awesome.

My system is customized. It has all stock parts except:

I only have 1 hard drive, Samsung 840 SSD 500gb (updated firmware)

16GB DDR3 1600 MHz SDRAM, 4 x 4GB SODIMM

IC Diamond Thermal Paste on cpu and gpu

BIOS Ver. E16F3IMS.50U

Bluray Reader in place or writer

Honest reviews on MSI Computer Corp. GT60 0NE-403US;9S7-16F311-403 15.6-Inch Laptop

I agree with many of the reviews you'll find here. Its hard to find a more loaded laptop at this price. I looked at alternatives and this was the best value for the money.

I'd give this laptop a 5 except for MSI's customer service. After having the laptop for 2 months, the hard drive is failing. I reconfigured my system to boot Windows 7 from a SSD and I use the 750 gig that came with the laptop for data. I couldn't save any files, got errors from Windows 7, the chkdsk program loaded on startup, and the drive failed the smart test. I called MSI and they wanted me to first rule out a software problem by reinstalling Windows 8 on the hard drive. They wouldn't just send me a new drive to swap out. They wanted me to send the laptop to them so they could do the work.

That's crazy. My laptop is confugured how I like it. It actually ended up being less trouble to buy a new hard drive for $72 then reinstall operating systems and send in my computer to them so they can realize that the problem is the hard drive and install a new one. Not very customer oriented.

Don't think you'll be able to find a computer packing this much power for the price. If you're a gamer, you'll love it. It can be a little on the heavy side and the AC adapter is a brick but I'm satisfied with the purchase. I wish that it had a volume control on the side instead of having to use the function keys. Speaking of the keyboard, it is very tactile and the color changes are awesome.

I've had this computer for a year and a half and was happy with it up until recently. I am a graduate student and when I first got this computer it had exactly what I needed and did everything wonderfully and in some ways still does. I was completely impressed by this computer. It was fast at completing all tasks when I got it and a year later after much usage and lots of space taken up it is still just as fast. It's a beautiful, sleek looking computer and it comes with a lot of great features. It has small lights that act as buttons at the top of the keyboard you lightly put your finger on and they do tasks such as launching itunes, muting audio, and playing/stopping/fastforwarding movies so you don't have to navigate to other windows or the desktop to complete tasks. It also has labelflash which is useful if you want custom labeled dvd's. I have burned hundreds of dvds and cds with this computer and have never had any problems and the burner is still going strong. I've never had any issues connecting to wireless internet and have even used this computer to connect to other computers wirelessly to transfer documents. I can have multiple windows and tabs open and it doesn't effect the speed of the computer. I can run games easily and it plays programs flawlessly. It has three usb outlets and I am able to run a usb mouse, a printer, and a usb disk at the same time if I need to. This computer in many ways is great.

It does have its not so great points though and the main one is that its parts broke down fast. Around three months after I got this computer I started having issues with the screen flickering. At first it only did it on rare occasions so I didn't think much about it, but after while, after it was too late for returns, it flickered worse and worse. Four months ago I couldn't move the laptop from my desk for fear of flickering. The screen eventually went out and I had to replace it. It's been three months since then and the screen worked fine after I replaced it until a few weeks ago when the flickering returned. I'm afraid I am going to have to replace another part in the laptop, either the display cable or another part. If you do your research toshiba laptops are notorious for having screens go out along with other parts even when they are fairly new. This is a huge drawback and if I had done better research beforehand I wouldn't have bought this laptop.

A second minor issue is one small turnwheel. The laptop has a small turnwheel on the front you can use to turn volume up and down. This stopped working pretty soon after I got the laptop but this hasn't really impacted me much because I rarely used it anyway.

Another issue I am having is that I have had to replace the power cord. I do not move my laptop around much. It usually sits stationary on my desk so I find it odd the power cord has a short in it when I barley move the laptop off of one spot. So far I have put a lot of money into fixing problems I shouldn't have had to deal with at early times in a laptops life. Instead of fixing the screen again I am just going to hook it up to an external monitor and let it sit stationary on my desk and use it as an at home computer because my screen issues have made it too unreliable to trust in the future. It's not a good computer to travel to school and home with and doesn't seem to react well to you opening and closing it and I think that is what is causing my current screen issues. Instead of putting more money into fixing my toshiba satellite I am just going to buy a new laptop. I have loved this laptop because it has been great with the exception of the repair issues I've had. I've accomplished a lot of work using this machine and it has produced well for me. I am sad to have to give up on this one after trying so hard to get it to work correctly but putting more money into it isn't a possiblity now because I need a laptop for school that isn't going to break down again and I can't be sure this one won't.

I purchased this laptop in March 2009. It was fast, had good video and sound--for a month, then we had video problems. The faulty hard drive and defective LCD cable harness were replaced in warranty. Today, 11/02/2010, it would not power up. I will have to pay $425 for a motherboard replacement. When it worked, it worked well, but to have to replace the main board, hard drive and video cable within two years is ridiculus. The reliability of this model is very questionable.

I bought this Toshiba laptop 3 years ago. Since then, my screen started flickering then it just went completely white, now its doing a long flash that prevents me from doing my work properly or watch a movie in peace. My keyboard is not working anymore and it's just pushing off an odd heat now. Looking at other people's comments, we all have the same issues. This is an unreliable machine and I would NEVER buy another Toshiba device again. Horrible! And here i thought HP was the worst! DO NOT BUY!

Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite M305D-S4830 (AMD Turion X2 Ultra ZM-80 Dual-Core

I bought this Toshiba laptop 3 years ago and it worked great for 1.5 years. At the 1.5 year mark, the screen started to flicker and died not long after that. I had to hook it up to an external monitor and used it as a 'desktop' because I figured the repair cost was too much. It hobbled on for another 1.5 years then died completely. I think my experience with Toshiba's poor reliability is very common, judging from reading many others' similar experience. I would never buy another Toshiba computer based on so many complaints by so many people. By the way, my 8-year-old Sony laptop is still going strong, slow but working still.

This is the second Acer I've bought in the last 6 months my niece needed a computer, so I gave her my AS5253-BZ602 and got this one for myself. Both have been great purchases. Set-up was easy, there was some bloatware, but not an excessive amount. It runs fast and handles multi-tasking well. The screen resolution is very good, as are the speakers. This laptop has two, which is an improvement over my old Acer's one. There are 3 USB ports but no HDMI, which I don't mind, but some might.

Summing up, this computer is ideal for basic use and at $350, a real bargain.

I bought this computer as a secondary computer to augment my online business, because I tend to overdrive processor speeds with too much work all at once. This has now become my primary work computer as it is not only faster but more reliable when processing large files than my netbook computer is. This computer easily handles downloading large files while zipping other files, 2 internet browsers and my email client at the same time, with little to no slowdowns!Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 3 Users

Despite being one of the more affordable computers out there, Acer is one of my favorites. I've had Dell, HP, Toshiba and Acer notebooks, but my Acer has outlasted the Dell and the HPs (with HP being the worst). The battery life isn't the best, but that really isn't a problem for me. I don't feel like I need to go out and blow a lot of money on a laptop when Acers are perfectly serviceable and long-lasting.

Honest reviews on Acer AS5733Z-4469 15.6-Inch Laptop (Mesh Gray)

This is a reasonably fast computer with a decent display.

As with other Acer laptops, there are two things to watch out for:

The spacing on the keyboard is somewhat tighter than on HP and Dell laptops; it can be hard to adjust to this.

Sound recordings, whether made using the internal microphone or an external microphone, are horribly distorted. Curiously, this is true even if the recording level is set quite low. I've tested this on laptops made by HP, Dell, and Asus, and got respectable sound quality on all three, so I'm guessing that there is a defect in the Acer motherboard chip set.

I needed a VERY inexpensive computer for my worker to use at the scanning station. This arrived very quickly and is actually a very nice machine. All we will be using it for is scanning documents and burning CDs so it may not be fast enough for more complex users but it sure is nice to have this machine here. (The old one literally died right as I was bringing this one over to the station). It jumped right on the internet. it did have that annoying "Do you want Norton Antivirus" crap on the first bootup but I got rid of that.

The triple core 1.8ghz Phenom II is a strong and economical processor choice for a desktop replacement-type laptop. This computer regularly gets 3.5 hours on the battery with only the screen brightness turned down a bit. I really enjoy this.

The video card is listed as an ATI Radeon 4250, which it is, but the M880 chipset for it gives it power way beyond the Radeon 4250's power in itself. When I checked the GPU benchmarks, the M880 chipset Radeon 4250 was consistently ranked middle of the pack, above such GPUs as the ATI Radeon HD 5145.

This computer is nice and portable, and the size is perfect for carrying with me. The screen isn't small to where it creates any issues with seeing for me; I'm actually enjoying the fact that it is shorter and I can cradle it in my lap perfectly and totally comfortably.

The keyboard is not one with a full NumPad, but that doesn't bother me much. The keys don't have a loose sensation at all, which I really enjoy. I am still getting used to the location of a few of my keys, especially the backspace, but I'll certainly get used to it soon enough. The trackpad isn't bad; you can tweak it however you like. One major issue I noticed right away is that the Webcam drivers were so out of date that the webcam wouldn't work when I first got the computer. I tried to update it and was told that this was already the newest available driver, but it still didn't work. I ended up taking it off altogether and restarting the computer and it works just fine now. Just a word of warning for those who are looking at this one: The webcam may take a second of fiddling with to get it set up correctly. IT is nothing too bad, and there are guides all over the internet explaining how to do this.

Other minor gripes, the touchpad can be seems a bit insensitive at times, even with it turned up almost all the way... The two finger scrolling also isn't as intuitive as it was with my last ASUS. I also have to press the power button to get it out of sleep... All minor gripes that I will come to terms with soon, after which I will be completely satisfied with my purchace. ;)

These are my impressions after a few days with this computer... Great specs and performance for the money! I'll be sure to update this review if anything else comes to mind.

EDIT I want to add that the sound quality that comes out of these speakers is not too bad. Look in the Control Panel for a utility called SmartAudio. It controls all the sound output for the computer and will give you much greater control over your desired sound. You can go into the SmartAudio settings and have it appear in the System Tray if you're going to be listening to a lot of music! I'm not claiming that the speakers are perfect; you're still going to need good external speakers or headphones if you want an excellent and LOUD audio experience. Basically, these are good for stock speakers, mainly because of the SmartAudio software (found in Control Panel)...

I don't think I need to say much coz the reviewer before me did a pretty good job explaining features and benefits of this machine, and that is the only reason I bought this laptop.

So now it is my moral duty to leave a review of this product so others might learn from my experience with this laptop.

I used to have an HP before this one which by the way was a complete piece of junk compared to this one, and the build quality on the Toshiba is much better that any of the HP's out there right now, given that this one does not have the bells and whistles like HP's have like a remote control to control your media or a wifi on-off switch, but still it is so worth the money when you actually have this thing in your hands.

The only thing I don't like about this laptop so far after a week of use is that the mouse pad buttons make a clicking noise and are not silent when clicked. Windows 7 loads up fairly fast and compared to my desktop which has a 3.0 ghz quad core processor, this one loads up may be a second or two later, so really impressed by that.

I have really been looking for a 14" screen laptop coz 15" seemed to big for my portable computing needs, and I dont know for what ever reason the 14" laptops Ive been looking for have been more money than the 15" laptops, so I was lucky enough to find this one.

Haven't tested the graphics card yet, but I know it should be alright for playing suitable games on the laptop since I use my desktop for playing power and graphic hungry games.

I also like the feature where you can put two fingers on the track pad and maximize or minimize your fonts going in or out on the track pad.

If you are on a budget, you need a laptop for yourself or your son or daughter going to college this should satisfy most peoples needs.

Oh and by the way I did go to a best-buy and turned on a laptop with an i3 processor and this one has a much faster load time than an i3, so people out there debating Intel i3 or this one, it should be a no brain er, I didn't have a chance to compare i5 to this one, but in comparison with an i3 I would think that this processor should be at par if not less than an i5.

Oh and by the way the battery on this thing is really good, It lasted me about 4.5 hours before it needed a charge in Toshiba Eco mode.

I think I've done my job for leaving a review for this laptop so now I can sleep good, coz I know hopefully I helped in simplifying someone Else's decision out there.

Best Deals for Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4036 LED TruBrite 14-Inch Laptop (Black)

My review may not be as thorough as the previous two which were extremely helpful for me, but here goes!

I spent a good deal of time researching what I needed in a computer. I debated a netbook, desktop, larger vs. smaller laptop. My previous computer was a 6 year old HP desktop which had worked well for me, but I needed something for commuting back and forth to school with. I was not a fan of laptops in general as I had never had one before and had only used a couple of laptops. My research brought me to another store at first and I had settled to wait to buy the laptop there for my state's tax free weekend, but a week before I was going to buy it the store raised the price which caused me to do some more shopping around.

This brought me to Amazon where I found this great deal! The Toshiba was a better model at a lower price and after reading the reviews I purchased it.

I have had the laptop for two days now, but I am thrilled with it so far. The difference in speed is amazing and I have never had a computer that starts up as fast as this one does. The size of it is perfect for me; it feels small and compact without being as tiny as a netbook (my sister has one and the screen size would drive me bonkers!). As far as the webcam issue, I have been able to use my webcam without any problems so far and haven't had to do anything to fix it.

I like windows 7, but I did have some minor problems trying to get some of my older software to work, but I have now gotten it all up and running (it took me an hour or so to work through these minor issues as I'm not terribly tech savvy).

The battery has been lasting somewhere between 3.5-4 hours. Great keypad for typing. The speakers are decent.

The only drawback with this laptop was that it doesn't have lightscribe technology which I use fairly often, but other than that I have no complaints. I would (and actually have already to a friend) highly recommend this laptop if you're looking for something portable, fairly powerful, and easy to use. At this price you just can't beat it!

UPDATE: I have now had this laptop for about 6 months. I would still say I LOVE IT! However, I will alert others that the hard drive crashed after less than a month of my owning it. This was an inconvenience due to classes having started. I called tech support and they were very helpful and able to address my issues, but they kept asking me what I had done to it as if it were my fault! That is the only issue I had because I had not done anything different with it than normal, but other than that the technicians were helpful and clear about what I should try and then quick to tell me my options about sending it in for service. I opted to pay to have it overnight shipped from a UPS store instead of waiting for them to send me a box that I could send to Toshiba for free. I am so glad I did this! I sent it in the next day (a friday) and was able to track progress online. I had it back within two weeks and I have not had a problem with it since. I have read some of the bad reviews and I would disagree with the two major complaints I have seen. I do not think the laptop is loud at all and my battery still lasts 3-4 hours. Still very happy with my purchase!

UPDATE: Coming up on 3 years with this laptop now. I have had to get a new battery, the original one would no longer hold a charge for more than an hour, but I nearly always have my laptop turned on. The webcam has become rather testy and if the screen is not in the right position it will not work for online video chatting, but I have not had the same issue with just turning on the webcam to use for taking video or pictures. Other than that it is still a very reliable laptop and I have not had other issues with it. I did drop it on the floor this morning (Darn cat getting in the way asking for breakfast!) and a small chip was broken off of the front right corner, but on putting the chip back in, it seems to be staying perfectly in place and the functionality of the computer was not affected at all. Still very pleased with my purchase! (I paid about $550.00 for it in August 2010.)

Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4036 LED TruBrite 14-Inch Laptop (Black)

This is my first review; so please be kind. Thanks.

Here I go over my first impressions, go into detail about the specs and performance, and give some advice for potential buyers.

Two things I didn't address in the video is the "fan problem" and the build quality. Although I can hear my fan, it is in no way loud or distracting; people who buy laptops with more than two cores should expect the fan to be on almost always unless they want their processor to fry.

Second, the build quality is excellent. This laptop is solidly built; the only way the laptop will even flex is if you directly push down on it. And even then the flex is slight.

I hope this review helps.

I just received my laptop a few days ago and it dropped $30 in price since then, not sure why, but I wish I waited a couple of days to order. About the product, Toshiba did a very good job in everything, but forgot the acoustics parameter. It could be because the the triple core needs constant cooling, but the fan is on at full speed about 90% of the time. This is a big deal for me because it is just too loud and it gets to the point where it's annoying. Performance, weight, sound and battery life are just as specified, but too bad noise level was never mentioned anywhere. I had laptops with loud fans before, but usually the fan is on only for a few minutes and then turns off. This is not the case for this laptop, the fan will be on almost all the time and is very loud, even when I am not doing anything and the laptop is just sitting there. I am starting to wonder if my laptop has a bad temperature sensor because no one else complained about constant fan noise. I am thinking about returning it because it is way too noisy.

great laptop. the only reasons for not gettng 5 star: had for only 1 week and did come with instructions or recovery disk (of which the ad clearly stated before purchase. just wish it had one.) look brand new out of the box without any marks.

The graphics and speed of the machine is great. There are several drawbacks as mentioned. One is the size and sensitivity of the touchpad. The palm of the hand is constantly setting off the touchpad and sending the mouse on errands unintended. The solution is to turn it off and go wireless. Another problem was the keypad location of the number "0." It is shorter and is directly under the 2. On regular keypads across the nation the "0" extends and is resting under the 1 and 2. It takes some getting used to. I bought it for the graphics card to play games with. For that purpose it is Excellent. If it wasn't for the other drawbacks I would have gave it a five star rating.

I liked the ATIV Book 5 enough that when I had to return it because of a minor issue I got a replacement rather than a different laptop. (Hats off to Amazon for remarkable service; they sent me a new one even before I returned the old one, so that I wasn't without a computer.) This unit has an excellent keyboard and touch pad, plus good battery life. It's also speedy and the build quality seems good. On the negative side, the screen is not as crisp as some others--look elsewhere if you're a video fanatic--and the black finish is a real fingerprint magnet. It's reasonably nice looking but not as cool as other Samsung laptops.

I bought this computer to replace my old acer netbook and I have been pleasantly surprised by how wonderful this Samsung computer is. I like the 14 inch size, it's not too big or too small but perfect for my needs. The computer is very very light and is also extremely fast. I looked for a touch screen computer that was not too expensive or too heavy and I read a lot of reviews before I chose this one. I am happy that I decided to go for this ultrabook laptop. Although I paid less than $800 for it the computer looks and feels like a high end laptop. I like the great finish, big keyboard, great speakers and the battery lasts for a long long time. Even windows 8 does not feel as bad as other reviewers have said.

I bought this for my oldest going into high school. she needed her own computer and portability should she need it at school. This is light weight and with a touch screen you can't ask for a better deal. It was right at back to school which I think brought the price down to just under $600. Fabulous.

I've had this computer for almost two months now. The only problem that I've found is with the touchpad drivers. Sometimes when the computer wakes up from a sleep, the two-finger scrolling function on touchpad does not work. Other than that, everything else has worked flawlessly for me, including the wireless network card. The only other items worth mentioning is that the display is not as bright as some other laptop, like the Dell Inspiron 14z, and the battery lasts nowhere near the 9-hours claimed by Lenovo. It's closer to 4 5 hours with display brightness at 50%. Despite having less ports on the Dell 14z, I would recommend the Dell over this Lenovo. Dell also includes a built-in DVD drive, which comes in handy. (I don't work for Dell. I just have both machines.)

We bought this computer new and had to return it because the wireless internet did not work properly. The operating system and other programs seemed to work okay, but the wireless didn't work. We know the problem had to do with the computer because other laptops we had in the home worked fine. We spent a few hours with customer support, but they were not able to fix the problem. We also researched the problem online. The suggested resolutions did not resolve the problem, and we decided to return the laptop.

DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP! This is my first amazon review and I was motivated to write it because of the totally unusable experience I've had with it. The wireless is unusable. I'm a pretty sophisticated computer user and we have multiple devices operating on our wifi network but this computer without question has repeated wifi connection problems. In addition, the trackpad driver software crashes constantly when microsoft office is opened. I'd recommend cruising the lenovo forums for feedback on these issues from other unfortunate Lenovo buyers.

I've had this ultra-book for about 1 week and I am a heavy user of adobe software. It has not let me down once! The 8 GB ram and i7-3537 CPU delivers when I am running Photoshop CS6, Lightroom 5, and Premiere Pro at the same time. The portability is also great since it is relatively small 14" screen, but has enough size to get a great display and use the keyboard efficiently. The battery does about 4 hours when I have the graphics running high, and using adobe software. The overall build and quality is superior too majority of laptops due to its aluminum build.

Overall I'm very satisfied with this Toshiba laptop. Large 17 screen with two speakers and a subwoofer. Full size keyboard, fingerprint reader, camera, SD card slot, HD-DVD, Windows Vista Premium. Almost perfect for those who want a cheap and large laptop for their movie needs.

There are some disappointments though: keyboard felt somewhat cheap (typical plastic feels, a lot worse than the thinkpads'); integrated graphics card made playing games on this gorgeous 17'' screen impossible; sound sometimes have issues (noise); And of course the defeat of HD-DVD to Blueray didn't help much either...

Overall, this is a great lappy for just your DVD needs and a little bit of other type of work/entertainment. If you are looking for dedicated graphics card or a better keyboard, go look elsewhere.

I need the number pad on the right like this computer offers. Great invention that was! I bought a brand new HP with this number pad. I type lightening fast and the problem I had with that HP was I kept hitting an up arrow throwing me into an upper paragraph someplace and what a mess up. Good thing for the undo button. The keyboard was off just enough to make fast typing not possible. I have the thing to my two finger typer husband and went to the store and `pretend typed' on every laptop there. This is the one that won. I can type like the wind and not hit other keys from a scrunched up keyboard. You couldn't really see the difference in looking it was that slight but man what a different it was! I still have my number pad and can type like crazy.

The sound..oh yeah, the sound!! I watch movies on here all the time and play music. Great sound!

It has 6 usb ports and of course head phone jacks etc. I use it a lot for skype talking with a headset.

I have worn out one keyboard, I mean letters worn down and faded off. I replaced the keyboard for the heck of it.

My only complaint is the volume button is a dial on the front and my belly keeps bumping it which will unmute the computer. I would prefer the volume be up by the monitor. But, that being my only complaint isn't bad!!

I am NOW a loyal Toshiba fan. I will go kicking and screaming into my next computer because I do not ever want to give this up. I will repair until it no longer makes sense to do so because this is my baby!

All the computers I own are HPs. My older ones have always had fairly poor design materials and have notoriously overheated. When I purchased this laptop I was nervous about these common HP problems as well as the harsh review given over the quality of the screen. When I opened this laptop, however, I was blown away by the quality of packaging as well as the breathtaking aesthetics of the laptop itself. Tentatively I turned on the computer (as I prepared for the worst), but, to my surprise, I was greeted with a screen that easily displayed vibrant colors and looked just about as good as any 14" laptop would. Apple is a bit ahead on the screens and batteries they use, but this laptop has a perfectly fine display and a fantastic battery life. I copied vast amounts of music and videos from an external drive while installing various programs (such as visual studio which took about an hour to install) and this laptop completed all those operations while living up to a battery life of about 4 hours (I imagine the battery life is much better when the computer is simply word processing or internet browsing). Another surprise was the quality of the graphics processing in this computer. So far I have run MW2 and Fallout: New Vegas on high and ultra (respectively), and the graphics card has handled everything with ease. I do plan on giving it harder tasks to accomplish (ahem Crysis 2), but for all graphics computing within the norm of PC games I'd say this computer can definitely handle it. While running these games I also checked the amount and temperature of the air that was moving out of the vents and once again I was surprised at how cool it was. Another plus is the notable lack of vents on the bottom of the laptop which invariably suck up dust and cause the computer to run exponentially hotter (there are two vents only: one on the right side and one in the middle of the back). The only complaint I have is the power cable which is pretty deep and kinda hard to put in and take out.

In conclusion, the i5 processor, generous RAM and VRAM, mid class 2 graphics card, secondary storage, superior sound card, slot-loading optical drive, back-lit keyboard, and overall appearance should leave any consumer satisfied and proud to own a laptop of this caliber. The xbox is also a nice plus (which you can get off amazon and hp just check the details).

Hello, this is my first review!!

First of all I will talk about the HP envy's design. its design is just really cool, it loos like a very sophisticated, elegant, and very modern laptop. Also the lid of the laptop is made out this opaque black aluminum which hides a alot scratches, but is also a fingerprint magnet, but if you clean it once in a while you won't have a problem.

Next, the most important thing for me performance.

The laptop with the i5 processor, has a very good performance,it is quick, it loads windows in a few seconds. I use it for gaming a lot, and I have had no problem playing games like Mafia 2, Mass Effect 2, Half Life 2 and other games, ALL in High quality graphics, and a 1366x768 resolution. The only bug I have with the performance is in the noise, the laptop is a little bit loud, not extremely. For example is you are at work with your laptop and there is a little noise in the office you won't hear it, but if you are at home alone, you will probably hear it. TIP: shut off the cool sense because it will lower the noise and save battery( the laptop won't get hot anyways). Something I love about it is how cool (sense of heat) it is, while gaming it doesn't even get slightly warm.

Next screen:

The screen is real glossy, but also very nice resolution, the colors are bright as hell. Also the nice is really nice for gaming, but not too big, to carry around.

Track pad and keyboard;

The track pad many people say that it is horrible, but it really isn't its just something you got to get used too. I have had this PC for almost 3 weeks and I haven't felt any difficulty on the track pad, only maybe in the first 2 or 3 uses, but then nothing. The keyboard does have a slight flex but nothing serious that you would feel.

Battery: There as myths about this PC's battery. Let me tell you, they are false, I believe Apple invented them to make people don't buy this PC. For example, yesterday I played 3 and half hours on battery with my pc hooked up to my TV with high graphics, high performance and wireless turned on, and when I stopped playing I still had 15% battery= 35min (The laptop said) but once I started instead using Facebook the PC told me that (after 15min) I had 10%= to 30min. So the battery can easily last up to 5:30 or 6 hours.\

Finally I will talk somethings in general.

Overall this laptop is really great, it has excellent performance, excellent SOUND( the beats sound is GREAT), also excellent graphics and excellent price compared to similar laptops in the market, such as the Macbookpro which is 1200 dollars the 13.3 inch, which doesn't even have a graphics card (LOL). don't think it twice and buy this laptop, Also if you might want it with an i7 processor you can get it too. The only disadvantage again is the sound, which is not much and maybe the fingerprint magnet lid. If you have any questions please don't be afraid to ask here and I will get to you.

Best Deals for HP ENVY 14-2050SE 14.5-Inch Beats Edition Notebook (Black)

First off I would like everyone to know that I bought this as a Macbook clone, because while I admire the aesthetics of macs I'm not a huge fan of the OS. In that it succeeds, from the bezel trim, to the smooth finish it is a close match to the real thing. With Windows 7 which I much prefer. After using the laptop for about a week I have no complaints, except for the screen, it does have a bit of glare and I wish the envys' still came with the superior radiance display instead of the cheaper Brightview. Although I wouldn't be as dramatic about it as the other guy, the black aren't grey like the other guy said. It does have a lot of glare at 60% brightness which I use by default to save battery (at 100% its barely noticeable). But is it bearable at the least.

A bit on the specs, this laptop is pretty fast, I love its large 7200 rpm HD (which copied all my music and videos in like 20 mins, which was much faster than it was when I wrote to a 5400) the i5 seems fast, with no hiccups so far. A few of my friends have suggested I go with an i7, which you as a customer might consider. However to me battery life is king with a laptop, and the fact is an i7 just takes up more juice period. However if you want more of a complete desktop replacement, and want to be plugged in all the time def go with the i7.

In closing I love this laptop, except for the grounded charger cable I almost forgot that LOL, it's prolly just a problem for me because my house only has a couple 3 prong outlets. (Grounded = 3 prong, 2 prong is what I thought was the norm but I guess not for HP)

Also the complaints from past models seem to be fixed, i.e. the trackpad, it works just as good as a mac if not better for me, it might be because I'm used to touch phones and such idk.

Edit: I would just like to add a few things, First the battery life is awesome, I use it maybe an hour or two a day and charge it only a few times a week. Another added bonus which wasn't even advertised was the inclusion of adobe elements,(consumer level) such as photoshop elements and premiere elements. These retail for $150, and are awesome, especially since they beat out mac software such as imovie.

Honest reviews on HP ENVY 14-2050SE 14.5-Inch Beats Edition Notebook (Black)

This laptop is great. At first I thought I would be paying for the beats logo, but that was not the case at all. Besides from being very stylish and cool looking this computer has very good hardware. The beats audio makes the laptop have good sound (Although I will admit I expected a little more from the speakers in the laptop, but with an okay pair of headphones it sounds pretty boss). The keys are really nice and easy to use. The touch pad is also nice easy to use and it has a feature were you can lock the touch pad. The laptop itself run very well it doesn't come with any BS already installed programs. It comes with photoshop elements which is a cool bonus. and the webcam is great one of the nicest I've seen on a laptop. Overall this laptop is great for the price. You really get your moneys worth from this and off of Amazon is the cheapest I found it at.

I am a long time Dell customer, who has had just about one of every version of the Dell Latitude in since the C series. Because of pricing differences, I decided to give HP a try with the HP 8560P and am very impressed with it. The design is well thought out, the build quality is first class, and the performance is unbeatable.

I can't think of a single thing that I don't like about this machine, except for possibly its weight and the fact that HP hasn't refreshed their docking stations to match the performance of the laptop. Even the best docking station they have available for this laptop has no modem pass-through, only 2 digital video ports at a time, and USB 2.0 instead of 3.0.

The keyboard on this laptop has a unique design that works and feels great. Its design prevents spills or dirt from getting into the machine.

The new touch-pad is gigantic and works great. There is an "eraser head" mouse in the center of the keyboard for people who prefer to keep their fingers on the keys. Both can be deactivated in the software if you prefer for them to be off while you use your external mouse.

The screen and audio is wonderful.

The hing is solid and firm. Much better than on the Dell's.

The performance of this machine is incredible. I rendered a video in Premiere, while running a various scan, copying a DVD, and playing HD contact from Netflix all at the same time. Incredible.

For the price, this is the best machine on the market. I highly recommend it, or a custom build version of it direct from HP.

This machine is outstanding! The seller was really helpful. Chatted with me on the phone to make sure it was exactly as listed. Every detail was accurate. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that if a regular consumer bought this like it was coming from Walmart they would be disappointed. The machine came with a base Win7 Pro build. I'm a Software Engineer by trade and spent an afternoon downloading drivers to match this specific hardware.. Needed USB 3.0, Video, Bluetooth, Wifi, and ALL of the matching version/build for the HP Protect Tools. Once I found and installed everything the machine was perfect. This box is a rocket! Comes in at or near the top of every benchmark I've run. If you are comfortable doing download/setup/install I would strongly recommend this machine. The Keyboard has great feel and good key spacing. The touch pad feels like glass (it is). All of my other toys were plug and play. I would recommend this to a friend.

I've been a long-time Thinkpad fan--including 600E (late 1990s), R40 (early 2000s), T42 (mid 2000s), T420 (late 2000s)--for the rock-solid dependability, non-nonsense styling, and in particular the king-of-them-all keyboard. I mistakely tried a Dell Latitude E6400 for a couple of years, and I truly hated it, despite its own pointer stick and solid construction. When I decided to get this X230 Tablet, the only thing I was worried about was how the new keyboard was going to feel. Well, have no fear. I am a big fan of the new keyboard. It's got deep travel, its motion is the perfect blend between smooth travel and pleasing resistance, and the contoured surface actually feels comforable. This new keyboard is a winner. Other than that, there really isn't anything that needs to be said about this machine that the prospective buyer wouldn't already know. I loaded it up to the gills with the fastest and best of everything, except a 3G cellular card--totalled over $3000 MSRP before a the Ultrabase 3 and extra power adapters. On paper, the only thing the X230T lacks is discrete graphics, but the Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics that comes with the Ivy Bridge chipset is good enough for my occasional Engineering analysis and 3D modeling work--just make sure to get a least 8 GB RAM to share with the inegrated graphics. Plus, the Ultrabase 3 is able to support dual monitors via its dual VGA+DisplayPort ports. Just one final tip--get the Multitouch display; you'll be ready for Windows 8 Pro when it's released.

3 weeks into ownership of this device and I still don't have much of a review yet.

#1. It was a father's day gift.

#2. I am a over-the-road truck driver; so I don't have

much time to fiddle with this machine.

But Papa loves the back-lit keyboard.

The I-5 intel chip is fast and responsive

The 1TB drive will give him plenty of room to work with.

I've always loved the VAIO interface and wish I could have it on all of my PC's

This should last Dad for years to come.

Additional review to come later. .. and maybe another star for this review

I have had a Sony Vaio before and I loved it, but with windows 7. So I did stay with Sony I love the brand, but decided to go to Windows 8, and let me tell you it is very different than windows 7. I think a touch screen with windows 8 would have been better because it is really touch sensitive when you are using the laptop mouse. I got a wireless mouse not to long ago, it's better but I think that a touch screen desktop or laptop with windows 8 will be so much easier. Asides that I love the laptop the screen is not huge, but it is not small. Iike the different USB ports and the HDMI, dvd drive and the gigs that it has. Although I never used all the storage on my last laptop but it never hurts to have enough to store. I am using it to go to school online and I wanted something reliable to use. Overall I like the Sony.

I like the laptop. I do not use it much right now because I do not like Windows 8. Hear there was going to be an update that changed the format back to what Windows is usually like. Hoping that is true.

Very pleased with performance. Love the lighted keyboard and how quiet the keystrokes are. Has everything a desktop CPU has. Was able to move all my files from my old desktop easily. Really enjoy the capability of taking all my files with me.
