Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E420 1141AC5 Laptop Review
Felt cheap. Both my sons have ThinkPads and love them, but not the Edge. Don't know why they would even make this. For the small price difference it certainly isn't worth it.

The size is nice and its nice to have a built in 10 key, but it's heavy. You could practically use it as an anchor so you definitely don't want to travel much with it. The battery life is in reality about 3 hours so don't go far without the cord.
As for the hardware itself, the keyboard and touch-pad are very low quality. The keyboard I can deal with but the touch-pad is absolutely horrible. It navigates the pointer with very low accuracy and is extremely non-responsive. Even with the touch-guard turned on, the mouse jumps around while typing and is difficult to find when you need it. I use an actual mouse most of the time which resolves this but this can be difficult when out and about with it so this is where the challenges become very apparent.
This laptop comes with Windows 8, while not Dells fault, is clearly an operating system designed more for use on a tablet than on a laptop. It is awkward, extremely cumbersome and very very inconvenient. Especially for veteran windows users. If you get this laptop and have a copy of Windows 7 laying around, I recommend the downgrade. It was rated one of the highest by Consumer Reports for laptops in this price range which is why I got it, but if I had to do it over again, I would probably spend a little more and get something else.
but it an amazing laptop with really good battery life

I bought the laptop and I've had it for a day. So far it seems to be pretty solid with the exception of the bloatware that's installed. But I guess you get that anywhere now-a-days. I just wanted to clarify the resolution on this. It is 1366x768, not 1920x1080 or the other 1366x1378 (more tall than wide??) as stated in the description. It is a solid laptop and hard to beat for the price.Best Deals for Dell Inspiron 15R i15RM-2659sLV 15.6-Inch Laptop (Moon Silver)

I am very sad today to get a computer, a very serious problem is that the laptop's screen resolution is 1366 * 768, but the website is written in 1920 * 1080 and I think this is cheating, I now use this notebook in China, difficult to service, but the problem needs to be addressed, it is who is to blame? I do not know how to do, This is so sad.Sunday, November 9, 2014

This computer should last for a long time since it runs very cool. I've never had a laptop that ran this cool. I used to have another brand laptop that ran so hot--and the fans whirred so loud--that you could barely enjoy a movie playing on it even while wearing full-size, noise-cancelling headphones. Needless to say, that laptop had a very short lifespan--three years, then another 1.5 years after repair. This Asus, by comparison, is impressively cool-running. This is a very important feature to have in a laptop if you expect longevity! Heat kills internal computer components! I could not believe it the first time I used it. Its very low-heat operation is very atypical for a laptop computer in my experience. I've seen some desktop computers that run hotter than this! I mean, even after many, many hours of use you can barely feel any heat on the surface of this computer even near the fan vents.
This computer has a generous-for-the-$449.00-price 2.2GHz i3 Intel dual-core CPU with integrated graphics, 6GB of RAM (upgradeable to 8GB), 500GB hard-drive, one USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports, a memory card slot, an HDMI 1.4a port to connect to your home theater system, a dual-purpose headphone/microphone jack, CD/DVD drive for accommodating DVD-R/-RW/+R/+RW (including dual-layer discs) as well as CD-R/-RW, a non-touch 720p HD 17.3-inch screen, and keyboard w/numeric keypad. It lacks an IEEE-1394 (DV-link, also called i-link) port (something I was used to on some other computers I had/still do have), but this is not a deal-breaker since there are obviously tons of ways to import audio/video onto your computer!
Oh yeah, this computer is Windows 8 (basic version; not the Pro version, so no Windows Media Center). As for those who do not like Windows 8; all I can say is I personally have no issues with this operating system. I upgraded a Sony VAIO all-in-one desktop to Windows 8 Pro from Windows 7 Home Premium and I love it as well. But for what it's worth, I still have a fondness for Vista (another controversial Windows OS I personally had no issues with) and Windows 7 just as I do for Windows 8.
Although this Asus laptop does not have a Blu-ray Disc (BD) drive, I can confirm that its internal hardware will indeed accommodate the playback and recording of BDs if you have an external BD drive/burner. I have Corel WinDVD Pro 11 installed on this computer for BD and DVD movie playback and it has no issues. I have Sony Vegas/DVD Architect software installed for editing and burning of DVDs and Blu-ray Discs. For video editing and burning/recording, it has no issues there either. There is some Asus software preinstalled on this computer. The quick boot-up feature Asus has on this computer could be handy for some users, but I personally like to shut down completely after each and every use. So I have no use for this feature (which does not work when booting up from a complete shutdown).
I bought an external Asus BD/DVD/CD drive (read/write) back in 2011. This was my first Asus product. It has always served me well. This is what made me think of purchasing an Asus computer in 2013. It is proving to be a quality performer. The plastic that the unit is made of is not as robust as my last (much hotter-running) laptop, but just treat it right and you'll be fine. Also, go light on the keyboard with your fingers. It seems like there's a lot of give (fragility) in the keyboard. Again, as before, just treat it right and you'll be fine. Alternatively, you could simply use a USB keyboard or a wireless keyboard with this laptop (at least when you're using this laptop at home).
The bottom line is this: For the price, this laptop has some power to it and some great hardware and software features. Once you adjust this computer to your preferred settings and install the software YOU want on this computer, you can truly make it your own!! For this price, yes, I would recommend it to anyone! Oh yeah, and definitely double the fun by getting yourself an external Asus Blu-ray Disc drive to use with this computer!!

Really tried to love this laptop...and I honestly did for the first hour. It was beautiful, light, and sleek. Then, an hour in, I decided to start using the browser to search for something and lo and behold, allmywordstypedoutasthus...basically, I found out that if I wanted a space between my words, I had to press right into the middle of the spacebar. I had to press 3/4 of an inch to 1 inch from either end in before the spacebar finally registered and a space appears. I'm a pretty fast typer...on slow days, I probably type around 75wpm, other times it'd be around 100wpm. By simply having this malfunctioning spacebar, however, my typing speed goes down to around 40wpm...which is really quite annoying because I basically can't type as freely or comfortably as I'd like. If you're already a slow typer, or don't think you'll use the spacebar much for chatting/writing essays/etc. then you should probably be fine. I really loved this laptop before finding out this. But unfortunately, a spacebar that doesn't register when you press slightly off from the middle does not mesh well with me...or back to the store it'll go...what a pity. Also, from what I've seen online, it's not that I got a lemon or whatever...apparently all laptops from asus has this problem...so be careful if you want to order from Asus...
Another thing that sort of annoyed me, but wasn't really a huge deal, is that the plug is connected to the adapter box thingy...which is odd because when you plug in your laptop, if your outlet has any other available ones, your laptop plug may end up having to cover it. Also, the charger wire is relatively short. Overall, the keyboard is also pretty thin and you could sort of see the keyboard surface shake each time you type...didn't matter a huge deal for me though.
The laptop does run pretty quietly...or at least it did for the 3-5 hours I played on it before I decided that I just can't 'suck it up' for 3 years using a bad spacebar.
Pros:
-Price is fantastic
-Screen is very bright and it makes everything look really good
-Great laptop for browsing the web and basic document editing
-Keyboard is extremely spacious and helps me with my accuracy
-Roomy display at 15.6 inches
-I currently own 5 laptops and this is the only one I can put on my lap for hours at a time because it never runs hot. That's because it has a low power processor and Asus has a good cooling system.
Cons:
-Web cam is low quality because of low megapixels but I rarely use it
-I don't think the RAM memory is expandable but I'm still researching this
I would buy this computer again.

I had to buy a windows machine for business school and since I recently spent an enormous amount of money on an Apple iMac, i decided to go budget for a laptop. I saw this machine at best buy, it was light, fit in my bag, and appeared to do the trick so I bought it. Everything was going great until I got home and unwrapped it and found that the space bar doesn't work fresh out of the box. I then went online and did some research and it seems to be a common problem. Disappointing but not the end of the world. I'm going to return it and probably get a toshiba for a few extra bucks.Honest reviews on ASUS X502CA-RB01 15.6" Notebook PC
I have owned this laptop for three weeks. I repeat THREE weeks. In the middle of working from home, the thing up and shut itself off. I thought maybe it overheated, so I felt around the laptopit was cool. I turned it back on and it worked for about an hour more, but would not take a charge. I called Asus support. They almost had me do a complete recovery because it wouldn't charge. In the middle of the refresh that they then asked me to complete, it shut off and won't turn back on. They think it's the charger, so they recommended that I pay to mail them the charger and then wait over a week to get a new one back because they wanted to "service" it. Otherwise, they recommended that I purchase a $40 charger from them. So far, I have lost a day's worth of work, but if I can't get it back on, it'll be closer to a week's worth. I would NOT recommend, and Asus support is very poor.Monday, September 22, 2014
Best HP G72-B66US 17.3-Inch, Intel i3-370M, 4GB RAM, 500GB HD, Intel HD Deals
I Purchased this for my wife at Staples and she loves it. We paid only $479 and you will not find anything near this Laptop even close to that price. It offers so much, an updated I3-Core 370 processor, 500 GB HDD, 4 GB Memory and more. Compare it to anything else and it is a no brainer. I have noticed that all of the local stores have it now as a promo with these fetures and they fluxuate each week in price from $599 down to $499 depending on the store ad's. Look at your circulers people. Dont get fooled by the other G72's out there for over $600 that have the the low end processors and less HDD and Memory (Walmart etc. for the low end slower model) This is a great deal. My only complaint is the new G72s and G62s have adopted the new mouse pad which takes a little getting used to, but believe me you get used to it within a week. Very Happy with this. Check it out. You will love it. Staples, Office Depot, PC Richards all offer it and every week, they alternate from $599 and lower but each store will allow the price of the other one if you bring in the circular. I am a PC fanatic and grabbed this deal. Happy Holidays and enjoy!!!!! KJ
processor can handle my programs well whether its games, surfing the web, listening to music, or watching a movie, its great. i love that it doesnt really get hot after hours of running or left on my bed overnight. it's actually almost always on my bed and it runs perfectly fine.
built in speakers are nice, they are altec lansing, not the beats but the built in speakers work well. i personally have a pair of altec lansing 2.1 speakers and those perform better than the built in speakers, but that's a no brainer.
i think this is a great laptop, but do your due diligence before you buy to make sure this is what you want! go to a store like fry's or best buy or staples..
Here's the problem whatever idiot that designed the mouse interface should be forced to use it as his/her only mouse for the next ten years. It's too far to the left (indicating the idiot was a southpaw!) so it's comfortable to operate when the laptop is about a foot to your right. Now you can't see the monitor. The buttons are integrated into the deck, so unless you're a weightlifter, it's gonna be a challenge to push the buttons. You won't notice it till you own the stupid thing.
Buy yourself a real mouse. Yes, it's a pain in my keister EVERY time I use my laptop. But it works. There's a place in hell for the engineer of this thing, and the only thing in his cell is this laptop's user interface.

i bought this laptop knowing that it wasnt gonna be the best at games... i actually get pretty good graphics out of this laptop which has a built in (integrated) intel hd video. it's fast, even though it's got an i3 dual core, it performs very well. the keyboard layout is interesting, and to me, it doesnt really matter. i kinda do like it since the keyboard expands to a 10 key numberpad and the design of the laptop itself is simple. no glossy material to leave your fingerprints (if you're a thief, this may be for you! no, only kidding). anyway, the computer runs good, hardly runs hot...processor can handle my programs well whether its games, surfing the web, listening to music, or watching a movie, its great. i love that it doesnt really get hot after hours of running or left on my bed overnight. it's actually almost always on my bed and it runs perfectly fine.

I purchased this laptop at Staples on Black Friday for $499. Considering everything this is equipped with, 4GB ram, 500GB hard disk AND an HDMI output for my big screen TV. You just simply can't beat the configuration for the money. The only negatives are that both the touch pad and keyboard get some taking used to. The touch pad is hidden in the palm rest and is textured. It requires some practice to get the right touch. The keyboard is slightly offset to the left to accommodate the number pad. Battery life is about 2 2.5 hrs of normal usage -not great but usable. Bought this laptop 13.5mos ago for my wife for Christmas. She LOVED it! It was great.....for 13.5mos. Now, less than 2mos out of warranty, it has experienced a complete failure. Appears to be either motherboard or power supply. Extremely disappointed in this HP. I never buy extended warranties on anything, but now I feel a little silly for brushing off the salesman's attempt to sell me one on this. Looking on HP's support forums, this seems to have become a common problem with these G72s. This has soured me on HP laptops. A laptop should last more than 14mos......Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for HP G72-B66US 17.3-Inch, Intel i3-370M, 4GB RAM, 500GB HD, Intel HD

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E430 627156U 14' LED Notebook - Intel - Core Review
The 13.3" screen laptop weighing less than 5 lbs. are the ideal dimensions for a business laptop. A few years ago, there were a number of business and consumer laptops with these dimensions selling for $500-700. However, with Apple's success with the MacBook Pros, other PC manufacturers started copying Apple with higher priced ultrabooks. Now, it is practically impossible to find a 13.3" notebook that costs less than $1,000. This leaves the folks pinching pennies with the less than ideal 14" notebooks.
I have owned this laptop for a few days and I have listed some of my observations. I will update this review if I find any glaring deficiencies.
With stock parts, the machine scored 2,200 on the PC Mark 7 and a 5.0 on the Windows Experience Index (WEI). The graphics performance on Windows Aero was the lagging metric on WEI at 5.0.
Pros:
1. Intel i5-3210M Processor – It might be the slowest i5 processor in the market right now but it's still good. It should run most office applications with aplomb.
2. Size and weight – The size and weight of this laptop is just right (almost). It has a 14" screen that has a maximum screen resolution of 1366x768 (720p). It weighs 4.7 lbs so you can carry it or lug it along your bag without too much effort.
3. Expandability – It has a PCI Express Mini Card free. This gives the users the option of adding an mSATA drive to improve the laptop's performance. After adding a Plextor 64GB mSATA SSD, the scores jumped to 3,700 on the PC Mark 7. The main WEI score stayed the same at 5.0 but the Hard Disk score was significantly improved at 7.8 from 5.9. Users can also expand the memory to 16GB (according to the Lenovo software) and the hard disk. For some reason, Lenovo only offers the 1TB drives at 5,400 rpm. I believe it was a technical decision to keep the laptop cool.
4. Price – It may be last year's model, but the performance and value are really at a sweet spot. You will be hard pressed to find another laptop with the same price/performance at less than $600.
5. Good documentation – Lenovo provides a Hardware Maintenance guide to help users upgrade their laptop. It is a pretty comprehensive guide that even shows users how to replace the LCD and motherboard.
Cons:
1. Ctrl and Fn keys are switched – This is not a big deal though since you can switch the keys in the BIOS.
2. Some LED indicators are missing – For some reason the hardware engineers at Lenovo decided to ditch some of the indicator lights. There are no indicator lights for Caps Lock, wifi and the Hard Disk. In fact, the only lights that you will see are the small red lights indicating power on and a small green light on the right side indicating battery charging.
3. Relatively low memory and Hard Disk space This is also not a big deal because of the low price and good documentation. Instead of configuring the laptop on the Lenovo website, you can just buy a prepackaged one and upgrade it at a lower cost. Upgrading this laptop on your own should take a few hours at most.
4. No Windows 7 media – Users need to make a copy of the Windows 7 recovery disks on DVD or a thumb drive. In addition, there's a lot of documentation on the web showing how to write your own Windows 7 copy on DVD or USB. Lenovo provides recovery disks for Windows 8.
I upgraded the memory to 8GB with Kingston HyperX sticks and the Hard Disk to 1 TB with a Toshiba hard disk. The final benchmarks with all the modifications are 4,300+ on PC Mark 7 and 6.5 on the Windows Experience Index. The 30% increase in Windows Aero performance indicates that the stock 4GB in memory may be too low and was affecting graphics performance. Overall, I find this laptop to be a solid value buy. It is a 4-star laptop at stock but a potential 5-star machine with the right upgrades.
high performance, fast and easy to manage, with lots of additional apps
lightweigt, good outfit, resistant
would buy it again, with closed eyes
some noisy!!
be sure to pay attention to the place of "Ctrl", "Fn" and "PrtSc" buttons. its not as usual.
also, you need to press "Fn" button to activate F1 to F12 buttons!!! that's awful!!
look at the youtube links about this product.
but overall, its price is low and it is not a heavy laptop.

I have used Lenovo Think Pads for years. They are built very solid, and this one is not an exception from that standpoint. I like the cursor control peg, a primary reason I bought this Lenovo. Also, it has a lot of other features that wanted, eg HDMI. The only thing that is disappointing is that the display is not as crisp as the past Lenovo's I have had. It's like the contrast needs to be adjusted, If you plan to use that display a lot, I personally would take a pass on this laptop.Best Deals for Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E430 627156U 14' LED Notebook - Intel - Core

Asus K50I-RBBGR05 15.6-Inch Widescreen Titanium Notebook - Black Review
Just received it.
I consider the price in this review.
I am a frugal shopper and a bit of a techy -I'll be putting a Linux partition on it.
$365 delivered, refurb -no signs of why it was refurbished.
I've never owned an ASUS so far I really really like it. Touch pad is a bit touchy -:-) -but slick in that it is integrated into the body. The two finger scrolling and three finger menu is nice but the pad will take some getting used to.
The key board is sensitive as well, the buttons are big, all of which I happen to like; the numbers pad is a big bonus that I really like.
It is wide, like 17", the screen seems larger than your average 15.6". Good resolution. The battery life seems long, but we'll see.
It is lighter than my last Dell.
This is also my first run with the Windows 7 OS so that will take a bit of getting used to as well.
WiFi is fast and strong because of the wireless N -longer distance faster transfer rates.
Overall this laptop seems very solid for the money.
Easy to configure, lots of options, very sleek looking.
I would recommend this laptop to anyone looking for a budget portable.
I will use it for work/school (I'm a PhD student).
For what you pay this thing is a steal.
I will update as I use it.
[Update] 6 months and still feel the same.
[Update] Over two years old and still going strong. I don't use it hard, but I do take it out of the house a couple of times a week. However, it is one of three devices I use (my tablet and desktop get the most work).
Issues with it:
1) There is a permanent smudge on the screen from stuff wearing off of the touchpad.
2) The Webcam simply failed shortly after my last post. The hardware is fine (no problem using it in Linux partition) it is an ASUS software issue.
3) Power cable is starting to show signs of wear.
4) I could never get used to the delete key placement. Still drives me nuts when typing on it.
Let me say this laptop will be sufficient for some daily use. It is a good laptop for the price. Fast enough ( but not super speedy). Doesnt feel really heavy to me, but then again, I normally carry around a 17 inch dell. Very nice looking. Overall, very good for browsing and email. Probably really good for a student or light to medium usage. Im a heavy user and KILL laptops, so I dont think this one will last too long is you are rough on your laptops. Good specs. Started up out of the box. Would recommend though.
Cons:
-Installed software. There is A LOT of it! Slows down the computer on start up horribly.
-It was FILTHY! I know its refurbished, but at least you could take a can of air and blow out the cat hair and food crumbs (Im literally serious)! Come on, Amazon! If you buy this, purchase some canned air to blow out the keyboard and monitor as it was GROSS! Again as a heavy user, I know a gross laptop, and that one put mine to shame. Im going to have to pop the keys out and scrub with Qtips.
-Small scratches around the monitor. Nothing major, just figured I would mention it because some people are really picky.
-Packaging/Delivery. No bubble wrap or padding whatsoever. Came in a large box ( like a laptop normally would), but just had cardboard to hold in place and skrink wrap to prevent scratching. No padding between keyboard and monitor either. No protection at all (aside of the plastic bag on the outside incase it rained). The box wasnt dented, but if it had been, I worry about what could have happened. Speaking of which, FedEx left it outside on my porch ( in 95 degree heat) when I didnt answer my door (didnt even require a signature I guess), so make sure you are home for your delivery otherwise, someone might walk off with your new-to-you laptop. :/

Best Deals for Asus K50I-RBBGR05 15.6-Inch Widescreen Titanium Notebook - Black
First I was pleasantly surprised/blown away at how fast Planet73 shipped my Asus laptop that was well within the estimated delivery time. It is a great balance of price and performance from Asus, which is known for reliability and robust products. It is a huge step up or jump in virtually all the specs and features departments compared to the 12.1" old faithful laptop I have! It's quiet with no heating issues. I'm not a gamer, so a big hard drive and Windows 7 works for me! Most people might not encounter this situation as I am left-handed. The on button placement is awkward for a leftie as well as the power cord. When plugging in the power cord in the rear left area of the laptop, my right hand inadvertently touches the DVD button on the right side for stability. Other from those quirks, its a keeper!Honest reviews on Asus K50I-RBBGR05 15.6-Inch Widescreen Titanium Notebook - Black
I bought this laptop to install Ubuntu 10.10 and it worked like a champ! Everything installed fine and works perfectly out of the box--including things like 3D acceleration, laptop keyboard functions, and other things that can sometimes be a pain in Ubuntu. The only problem I have with it is that the webcam was installed upside-down; Asus "fixed" this by installing a special driver in Windows that flipped it back, but there's no apparent way to do this with Ubuntu. With that one problem aside, if you're looking for a laptop for a pain-free installation of Ubuntu, this one definitely fits the bill!Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Asus K50I-RBBGR05 15.6-Inch Widescreen Titanium Notebook - Black

Cheap Gateway 15.6-inch Laptop Celeron B800 1.50GHz | NV57H50U
I have just bought this notebook. It seems to work ok, I would definitely go ahead and purchase an 8GB RAM upgrade as it seems to bog down easily. An 8GB upgrade is only around $50. The speakers aren't the best but they will do. This is a cheap notebook and you do get what you pay for but it is definitely good for someone like me on a small budget. The main reason I wanted to make this review is to say that I purchased it from Best Buy for $279.99, right at $300 with tax. So definitely shop around for price. They didn't have it on display at the time either but I checked their website and said it was in stock at that store so I went in and asked for it and they had 11 of them. So even if they don't have it on display check the site or just ask (give them the SKU number).
I have stripped off the Norton and Best buy applications that were preinstalled and it runs reasonably fast for the processor. I watched a 720p streaming movie via Veetle.com on it with no problems just to test out the video and streaming capabilities.
Windows office 2007 runs fine on the machine and I have also installed Open office with little or no slowing down. I have opened several applications at the same time while streaming music on sky.fm and had no performance issues with the pc.
For $300 with tax this is a solid buy for anyone on a budget who wants a nice large screen laptop that is a bit big and bulky and can be enjoyed for use around the house or in a basic office environment.
If I have any further updates I will post a followup post.

I bought 4 of these at Best Buy for $279 just around $300 with taxes for our office training room. I have not upgraded the RAM but will likely do so to 4GB as that is enough for what we are using these pc's for. I would give it 4.5 stars if there was an option but gave it 5 instead. To be honest this thing at 4gb would do 99% of what the average mom and pop or home user would use it for.I have stripped off the Norton and Best buy applications that were preinstalled and it runs reasonably fast for the processor. I bought this computer Gateway NV57H50U Laptop / Intel Celeron B800/ 15.6" Display / 2GB Memory Black about 3 days ago and I love it!!! It's waaaaaay better than the old Dell (2007) that I already had. This laptop is pretty entry level but it has ALL the bells & whistles necessary for today's modern society. BTW, I only paid $279 at Best buy. The speed is excellent in comparison to my 60GB Hard drive Dell, but I will be upgrading the RAM to 8GB as well as another customer said. Mine isn't "laggy" as they put it, but hey, why not! It has a dedicated number pad (which I totally love) and it also has an HDMI port which is perfect when u download a movie and you don't want to wait for it to burn! Hope this review helps someone.Honest reviews on Gateway 15.6-inch Laptop Celeron B800 1.50GHz | NV57H50U
This is the best. This laptop was under 250 and the specs are better than my windows 7 pc which cost 600+. To be fair I bought the pc when windows 7 first came out so realistically the price would be around 500 down.Tuesday, July 22, 2014

I love Asus, and most know that they create quality computers. A side note, my cousin's fiance has been working at Best Buy for five years as a part of the Geek Squad and informed me about the best computers on the market (Asus being one of those top brands). I also own a larger, 15.6-inch Asus laptop. My reason for purchasing this laptop is for the upcoming school year; I wanted something light, portable, sufficient memory, and multi-functional. I am a software engineer, so I wanted something that I could use for coding, as well as for taking notes in other classes. This computer is brilliant. I have been using it for hours and am entirely satisfied. A $400 laptop that is sleek, light, touch-screen, lots of memory, and efficient? Sold. The model of this computer is very appealing and couldn't ask for any better. No bulging battery, looks similar to an Apple computer. I love it and am looking forward to bringing this all over campus! If you need a computer to bring wherever you go, buy this computer! I've also noticed that it goes for around $500 on other online stores and nearly $700 at Walmart. Don't let the price on Amazon deceive you for this quality computer! :)
Also, those 1-star reviews are bogus and hurt the overall scoring on the computer. One is a lady complaining about a computer that doesn't work (not the actual, working computer); the other ranting about how she detests Asus. If you want lousy plastics and sub-par hard drives, buy an HP or Dell!
My ASUS G750JX-DB71 came with a 256GB SSD and I went to swap it out with my 480GB SSD that I put in my old G74SX. When I took out the G750's SSD, I realized it was a 7mm SSD, which fits PERFECTLY in the X202E. This thing boots up in just a few seconds, and now it even comes out of standby faster. With the 500GB HDD (that came with it), there would be times when you had Chrome open (with a few tabs) and you wouldn't be able to do ANYTHING for a little bit. When you look down, you'd see the HDD light staying SOLID... Not even flashing or hesitating. After the slow stock hdd calmed down, then the computer would be responsive again. You do NOT have those problems with an SSD! Whenever it's reading from the hard drive or when the ram is full (because of to many open tabs and applications), it pulls from the SSD. But it's so fast, that it doesn't slow you down at all! If you google me "wwjoshdew", I'll have a video on how to open this thing up and put an SSD in it. Remember, it HAS to be a 7mm SSD, a 9mm one won't fit. I HIGHLY recommend the one linked to below!
Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Single Unit Version Internal Solid State Drive MZ-7TE250BW
With a USB 3.0 flash drive combined with an SSD, you can transfer files at over 200MB/s to the Patriot Supersonic Magnum flash drive!
Patriot Supersonic Magnum 64 GB Flash Drive Black (PEF64GSMNUSB)
Also, I updated my X202E to Windows 8.1 really easily by visiting the store from my X202E and simply pressing download... Installation was easy, pain free, and all of my programs and files survived the update just fine. Plus I'm pretty sure it starts up faster now (I disabled hiberation and quick stat up. NOT NEEDED with an SSD!)
My ONLY Complaint with this thing is that when you have power save enabled (it turns it on when you reboot), you KNOW it's on... It's slower and YouTube videos stutter and pause so freaking much. Turn on performance mode, and 1080p YouTube videos look and play good. I also recommend uninstall power4gear hybrid and installing the latest version (3.0.5 as I type this review). Some of the programs and drivers have updates OUT OF THE BOX!
ALSO, Google a tool called "ASUS Backtracker" if you plan on upgrading to an SSD! It will take your recovery partition from your HDD and copy it to a 16GB Flash Drive. I recommend doing that ASAP and putting that flash drive in the box that your X202E came with, so that you know where it is if your HDD dies, or if you want to upgrade to an SSD and need to reinstall Windows 8.
MY INITIAL REVIEW IS BELOW!
I'm actually typing this review from the laptop. So far I'm impressed. I opened it up (If you search "wwjoshdew", I posted high resolution photos on Twitter) and the hard drive is easy to replace, but the ram is SOLDERED in! You can clearly see that in the pictures. I can't post a link, but on my Twitter I tweeted a link to an imgur album with several photos. 4GB is okay I guess. I'm going to be putting this 120GB Vertex 3.20 SSD in it and if the computer ever needs to read/write from the hard drive because all of the ram is used up, it will be really quick and you probably won't notice it.
The touchscreen feels GREAT! I review the latest Android smartphones and tablets, and let me tell you... I have many tablets and phones (all touchscreen) and I feel RIGHT AT HOME using this ASUS X202E-DB1T.
The fact that you can't upgrade the ram is a little disappointing, but if you upgrade to an SSD, you probably won't notice a difference (goes back to the whole reading/writing to the insanely fast SSD if the ram is full).
Usually I make it towards my computer doesn't go to sleep when I close the lid, but there is literally only a two second (or so) gap in between opening the lid, and being able to "swipe up" on the screen to use it like you were before closing the lid. So I think I'll keep it this way and only make it NOT do that when it's plugged in (under advanced power options and close lid options).
So far I'm very impressed and love this thing! I don't find myself using the track pad at all! And there is no need to carry around a mouse, because touching the screen is way faster and more convenient than using a mouse or track pad.
I'm on my very first charge, so I'll update this review as time goes on and after I put this SSD in it and clone/restore the internal hard drive that's in this thing.
07/31/2013 UPDATE: I'll need to kill it and charge it a few more times to give you accurate battery life. I just installed Steam and loaded MW3... Without changing ANY settings, it played pretty smoothly! (youtube.com/watch?v=-7dygM0Bk5Y&hd=1)
The SD Card slot is cool. Usually laptops suck the whole card in it, this one it sticks out. So no worrying about the mechanism breaking and not being able to get your sd card out.
This thing only picks up my 2.4Ghz network, NOT my 5Ghz network. Plus the ethernet port is 100Mbps, BUT it has a USB 3.0 port, so Plugable's USB 3.0 Ethernet Adapter will get you a FULL 1Gbps link speed! (I have 120 Down and 25 Up with Comcast. I'm able to pull 116 Down EASILY with the USB 3.0 port and Plugable USB 3.0 to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN Network Adapter)
For 399, you have to settle somewhere. Plus there are USB 3.0 docks (Plugable UD-3000 USB 3.0 Universal Docking Station for Windows 8, 7, XP (DVI, VGA, or HDMI to 2048x1152, Gigabit Ethernet, Audio, 2 USB 3.0 Ports, 4 USB 2.0 Ports, 4A AC Power Adapter)) that let you use that USB 3.0 port to it's full potential! Gigabit Ethernet, extra USB 3.0 and 2.0 Ports, DVI, HDMI, audio, and etc. I'm not complaining at all! This thing was worth it to me.
It is not a perfect little machine by any means but damn it's good. I have had astronomically more good and surprisingly good experiences with it than disappointments. Wireless works well and fast. Boot up is fast! Touch screen works very well with no lapses, freezing, or failure to respond to touch.
Windows 8 will require a learning curve and sometimes the interaction between this unit and Windows is peculiar, but it is there and functional. Most of the time it's that pop yourself in the forehead and saying; "ahh there it is, why didn't I see that" kind of thing!
I gave it five stars because it's worthy of it. For what it was designed to do, and keeping in mind that no computer is perfect, this one does abundantly well what it was designed to do!
Alright, right of the bat I'll say if you're looking for a laptop with a long battery life THIS IS NOT IT!
I actually debated about sending it back multiple times because the battery life is beyond poor for this type of notebook. If I'm surfing the internet and messing with apps, I'll get about 3hrs max. Also, these apps aren't very demanding they're not games or anything like that. I bought this for school, and it seems to be doing the job fairly well so far. I just have to make sure I charge it fully before I take it for the day. Normally, I'll have to charge it while I'm there as well. It's unfortunate.
Ok aside from that, it's a pretty good laptop for the money. I paid the $399 + Tax which came out to about $430. It's very light (compared to what I was using) and pretty thin for it's class/price. One thing I've been using a lot more than I thought is the touch screen. I figured it would be inefficient holding your arm up to use a laptop that had a keyboard with a trackpad, but it actually isn't anything like that.
Well, I'll end it here. If you're looking for a computer for school/work it should handle it pretty well, but don't expect to leave your charger at home. Hope this helps...
EDIT: Alright, after using this laptop after another day I can't take it anymore. I like to browse a few different websites at the same time, so I almost always have multiple tabs open. I also like to have some music going too, and for some reason this laptop just can't handle it. It connects to my router strong, but surfing the internet is now a hassle compared to my old computer. I have to wait a few extra seconds after the web page loads to be able to scroll or click on it, this ultrabook just isn't fast whatsoever. It's constantly 'micro freezing-up' if that makes sense. It's just not responsive at all. I wouldn't recommend this laptop to a college student, it may work as someone's first computer but that may be it.
I've decided to return it because I like my computers lasting atleast 2 years, and I don't know if I can go another 2 weeks with this thing. Again, this is my opinion you may like it, I thought I was going to after reading the reviews, but that's not the case. Hopefully the return process with amazon is easy. Maybe I'll update this review again in the future and let you know.

Best Deals for ASUS X202E-DB21T 11.6-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (Grey)
After returning the ASUS Vivotab Smart Tablet because of weird and unexplained quirks and failures, I ordered this one because of the more traditional specs and full-blown Windows 8. After some software anomalies in respect to Windows Update, (it doesn't tell you the progress of the downloads and installation which makes you think nothing is happening), but everything else worked fine. I was very disappointed in the description of this unit when Amazon failed to mention that THIS model DID NOT have Bluetooth (I just assumed it did). Not a problem though because I ordered the Kinivo BTD-400 Bluetooth Adapter, plugged it in, and the software automatically downloaded (Windows 8), and this thing grabbed Bluetooth devices I didn't know I had!It is not a perfect little machine by any means but damn it's good.
Honest reviews on ASUS X202E-DB21T 11.6-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (Grey)
Normally I don't write reviews, but seeing how I read reviews prior to purchasing this laptop I figured I'd return the favor for someone else.Alright, right of the bat I'll say if you're looking for a laptop with a long battery life THIS IS NOT IT!

I bought a light portable laptop that i could use for college. I will say that this a perfect laptop for a budgeting college student. The mouse pad is the perfect size, its not too small and not big enough to get in the way when you type! The Touch Screen is flawless and works great. The windows 8 interface and touch screen work really well together when reading my college Ebooks. young college freshman that are wanting a hybrid laptop for gaming and school, do not get this laptop. This laptop is strictly for business use only, it is not a gaming machine.Sunday, June 29, 2014
Acer Ultrabook NX.V7QAA.009;TMB113-M-6825 11.6-Inch Laptop Reviews
I felt compelled to endorse the Acer Travelmate. I wanted a 13.3" Windows 7 laptop with 3rd gen Intel Processor and the Acer was the cheapest option I found by far. I couldn't find any reviews but I really like mine so far.:
Pros:
Lightweighta hair over 4 lbs which makes it almost an ultrabook
Full-featuredits a business laptop but still has a webcam and USB 3 port
Fastlighting fast so far. Acer doesn't bog their pcs down with a bunch of crap and its faster to boot up than any computer I have used. That includes comparable Dell, Lenovo, and Toshiba models.
Inexpensivefound mine for just over $600. Couldn't find a comparable model from the other guys for less than $750.
Cons:
Not stylish in anywaysturdy black plastic, no keyboard backlighting
Screen resolutionis not as sharp as some of the newer guys. A step down from HD.

It's been a few months since I got this computer. It works perfect. I have three HP/Compaq desktop and laptop, they are all reliable, never give me any problem regarding to hardware, I can't even say that about the much more expensive Sony. I actually bought a Sony and return it before I bought this one, I think this is better quality built than Sony, the top is actually metal instead of plastic like Sony. I have plastic cracking problem with two Sony laptop and it is not very good. I will definitely buy HP in the future.

This is a fantastic Machine with 8hrs battery time. The only remark I have is that it is relatively thick compared to its competitors.
In short, I loathe this computer. A significant part of my animosity stems from two things: 1) lots of other employees received thinkpads; 2) HP elitebooks receive universally good reviews. Enough to make me think something fishy is going on...(or these corporate drones really are more gullible than people give them credit) And so, dear readers, it is up to Mavericks(TM) such as myself to reveal the truth---these so-called "ultra portable" business notebooks suck.
Apparently, HP's idea of "ultra portability" means shrinking down the screen and the keyboard until it's practically unusable (missing keys!), while maintaining bulk. This thing is bloody thick for such a tiny computer. Some versions---mine included, I discovered to my unending dismay---don't even have an optical drive. I think it has 2 USB drives, located (unergonomically!) in the back, right next to where the giant battery juts awkwardly out.
Furthermore, you'd think the promise of "ultra portability" would include silence. Wrong. This laptop is loud, whirring and groaning in protest if I dare to run more than 3 applications simultaneously. I mean, what do you expect corporate drones to do with a business laptop? Surf the internet in a text-based browser??
And the one thing that's really bothered me: how much other reviewers heap praise on this piece of crap for being "fast," having great specs! But if you look at the specs, you'll see that they're merely decent. Nothing to write home about. Until you look at the accompanying price, and then the absurdity hits you! WTF, how do these people get away with charging so much money for this tiny mediocre piece of hardware?? I mean, have we descended to the abysmal ranks of Apple fanbois??
Other things that annoy me: stupid touchpad. I don't know what's wrong with it. The two-finger gestures or whatever is horribly broken. It's slow compared to my mouse. Computer is heavy for its size. Loaded with HP crapware (although I suppose that's to be expected with any laptop these days). Wifi button: I don't know if it's JUST ME, but I've had the immense displeasure of using two of these things within the past few months, and the wireless button on BOTH machines have crapped out on me. Unhappy coincidence??
tl;dr
If you're looking for a good business laptop, look elsewhere!! Don't believe the insulting, hyperbolic praise this product has received on other sites. You can find better hardware for a better price. Also, the promise of "ultra portability" is an egregious lie.

I am forced to use this computer for work. For my personal laptop, I have a Thinkpad T520 (15.6" screen). I think you can tell how this review is going to go...In short, I loathe this computer. This is a piece of junk. I can;t imagine how HP can still make laptop like this and manage to sell, in 2012. You can almost say there as been zero innovation in this laptop since 2002 or so. I didn't buy this, got as my work computer from office. I am now forced to write the review give how bad is this laptop. In less than 2 months the battery is almost falling off!!. I have an extended battery and the battery lock is so poorly done and quality is so flimsy. Also, the laptop is really fat, unlike what you can see in the pictures. The Compaq laptop I got in 2001 was thinner than this and this was supposed to be HP's business class travel friendly laptop. What a shame to HP's design. Do yourself a favor by not buying this junk.Wednesday, April 23, 2014
Cheap ASUS 1015E-DS01-PK 10.1-Inch Laptop (Pink)
I hope this review helps anyone who is in the market for a netbook without the flaws of the earlier generation netbooks. Well I was on a quest for the perfect netbook and have used so many in the past. I think I've tried at least a dozen models only to find that there was some short comings with them. This netbook will be used mainly for traveling since it is a lot easier to carry and not as expensive as other ultrabooks or notebooks.
OK lets get to it. Here are the positives listed below.
Speedy for a netbook (2 to 3 times the speed of standard netbooks)
1366 x 768 resolution.
light weight
comfortable to type
hdmi, can output 1080P Blu Ray no problem
1 x USB 3.0
Was able to swap the HDD from a 320GB to a 1TB 9.5mm
OK now here are the negatives.
Memory not upgradable, onboard and not removable.
Pain in the A to access the hard drive.
No Bluetooth
Not a dual band internal wireless card
No gigabit lan : (
Did not boot from USB/used acronis 2013 to clone drive.
Before this model was released, I was so close to buy the Asus 1025CE model that featured bluetooth and removable ram. However I am glad I waited as the CPU speed and a nice 1366 screen resolution out weighs the other features of the 1025CE model. I am more than happy to sacrifice bluetooth and extra ram for a nicer screen and increase in cpu speed. For the money you cannot go wrong with this model. I would highly recommend this model or the next model 1015E-DS02 which will have 4GB of onboard ram.
Update 5/6/13
I have been using this netbook for a week and it works great. It has exceeded my expectations. At times however it can run a little warm and the battery life is not as advertised. On a full charge it will last me about 5-5:30 hours on the lowest dim screen. To me this is acceptable as many new ultrabooks do not even last that long. This will definitely hold me over for 2 movies during a plane ride.
The first thing I noticed was keyboard. It's definitely easier to type on compared to the Dell Mini 10. Having the separation between the keys helps a lot. The cursor keys are a little cramped, but what do you expect on such a small laptop.
The second thing I noticed is how much I dislike the touchpad. Seems to be par for the course on many netbooks. I frequently use the tap-to-click feature (quickly tapping to register a left-mouse click) on the touchpad instead of actually pressing down in the bottom-left corner. It would only register my taps about 80% of the time which was really annoying. I figured that this could be solved by trying different touchpad drivers. The laptop came preinstalled with the latest drivers from Asus' website. I tried the generic Synaptics drivers from their website. That helped with the tap-to-click, however, the pointer speed was way too slow, even when set to the highest speed. Also, I lost the Windows 8 gestures with the those Synaptics drivers. Next I tried the Elan drivers (did a Google search for 'elan touchpad driver windows 8', and it's the first link on asus.com). The Elan drivers did the trick. Everything works great... tap-to-click works 99% of the time, pointer speed is good at the default speed setting and the Windows 8 gestures work.
At first, when I read that this had a Celeron CPU, I was a bit wary. However, after using the Atom CPU-equpped Dell Mini 10, I have to say that this Asus is a bit faster even at a lower clock speed, but I'm sure the dual cores helps quite a bit. This machine also came with Windows 8 64-bit which I was surprised to see. I'm used to seeing 32-bit operating systems on netbooks. I'm sure that replacing the HDD with an SSD would make this a lot faster, so I might have to invest in that later.
The only thing I've really tested so far is streaming Youtube videos. This thing doesn't skip a beat, even with HD (all the way up to 1080p) videos running at full screen. The frame rate is smooth. I'm pretty impressed. Screen looks decent too. Speakers can get pretty loud without much distortion.
I'm happy with the build quality as well. There's a nice texture on the plastic surrounding the touchpad below the keyboard and on the bottom of the laptop. There's very little flex to the keyboard... it's pretty solid.
If you're looking for a 10" laptop for basic web browsing & productivity, definitely consider this one.
UPDATE 2013-04-30
After using this laptop for a few days, I'm still impressed. No new issues to report. Once my wife started using it, she would frequently trigger (by accident) the Windows 8 gestures on the touchpad. If you swipe in from the left, top or right sides, it triggers a gesture. I didn't see an easy way to disable these gestures. There are registry keys that you mess around with, but I found an alternative. There is another set of Elan touchpad drivers that work even better than the previous ones that I found. Just do a Google search for 'Elan touchpad drivers', and it's the link for station-drivers(dot)com. The driver version at the top of the list provides a bunch of configuration settings in the Mouse application for disabling gestures as well as many other touchpad settings.
I also read the other review about the difficulty in upgrading the RAM and swapping out for an SSD, which is unfortunate. However, the speed is decent enough as long as you have the proper expectations.
0.(Optional).Search on google for classic shell and install. It will make windows 8 with a classic interface.
1. Search on google for "asus elan drivers" find the site, choose windows 8 64 bit click the link below "touch pad" then download and install from the 2nd link called "global" REMEMBER USE 2 fingers to scroll up and down.
2. Go to control panel > Programs and features and uninstall every single thing from asus everything! Including that hybrid crap that makes the notebook run 20 degrees hotter , don't worry windows 8 and nvidia has everything that you're going to uninstall. You'll have to reboot several times.
3. Go to control panel > Power options it should be set on "Balanced" below there is a link "More options" click on it and choose "High Performance". Close window.
4. Go to control panel and open " Mouse" click on top on the panel "Choose pointer speed" and move the setting to a higher point.
5. You're done. Enjoy the fastest notebook available.
I was skeptical at first about this little thing but I am blown away. I own a few laptops including a last generation vaio. For what you pay here 250 bucks you get a really nice machine. I am running 3ds max with no issues in this thing.I saw some people writing in these reviews stuff like it can be better or whatever. its the perfect machine for this money. Its comparable to the ultrabook I have at speed and that's got a solid drive in it! I thought for sure I was going to replace the hard drive in this one with a solid but it is not necessary at all. Boot time is around 30 seconds . Windows 8 interface sucks but the os itself is way better than anything on the market extremely stable , I install classic shell and run it with a classic interface. As for the people who complain about this product spend a hundred more and get the 350 dollar ultrabook from asus for heaven's sake. the battery is as they say around 7 hours .Screen is excellent I seat outside on the patio and I can see it perfectly. the keyboard very responsive and adequate for your hands. The mouse pad is big enough and responds accordingly as in the instructions. the built is solid with a nice piano finish on top. It is not thick just perfect. The fan blows warm but if you know about computers celeron chips run a little hotter. but nothing weird. if you complain about that get yourself a laptop with an atom processor at less than half the speed. I bought a pink one for the wife today. Overall a fantastic product. Thumbs up to Asus
I hooked it up to my 1Gb home network and transferred (at 100Mb) all kinds of important files, books, maps, 'Kindle for PC program' from Amazon, Email program, program archive, etc, etc.. My disk drive has 2 partitions (which is good). Drive C contains Windows 8 (I hate) and other programs I've installed. Drive D, I use to save data. It's just one physical drive but you treat it as two.
You have a slot for SD memory card (on the right side near front. It comes with a plastic DUMMY card that you remove to use) and I decided to use mine as a location for the cache of Internet Explorer and Firefox and reduce the writing to the hard drive. This seems to work well.
ASUS again for some screwy reason provides you with 3 USB ports but only one is the new Superfast USB 3.0. The other 2 are standard USB 2.0. I don't know why they don't make them all 3.0 as they are backwards compatible even on the cables. (Look for BLUE USB cables and a BLUE insulator in the USB Jack/Plug for fast 3.0 speeds)
The Ethernet port as is the old speed of 100Mb. I want 1,000Mb so I use a 'USB 3.0 to Ethernet 1Gb adapter. Now I can use my home network at the superfast 1Gb (1,000Mb) speed. USB 3.0 to Ethernet 1Gb adapter such as "Anker® Uspeed USB 3.0 to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN Network Adapter [ASIX AX88179 Chipset, USB to RJ45, LED Indicator, 18 Months Warranty]' for appx $22. REMEMBER to use Cat6 Ethernet cabling for 1Gb connection or everything falls back to 100Mb. Yes, file transfers are faster from computer to computer and to my network storage drive.
Windows 8 as in previous versions of Windows has an option to add extra memory (for some things) called 'ReadyBoost'. It utilizes a (high speed) USP memory drive (aka Flash Drive). Not all USB drives are useable for ReadyBoost and Windows will let you know. Appx $45 I use the SanDisk Extreme 32 GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive SDCZ80-032G-X46. Other Flash drives can be used. I like this one as I know it works, has a light indicating activity and I used the on my Gaming ASUS larger machine that runs Win7. There is a limit as how much memory can be used and I notice in mine Windows set aside a little over '30Gb for ready boost'! ReadyBoost is very easy to setup because you just plug it in to a USB port.
Like others here, I also downloaded a free 'Classic Shell' program that gives me back my bottom left 'Start' button and displays things more like Win7 or even XP. I still have access to the new format in the Win8 desktop if I want it. Its the best of both Worlds. Notice how Microsoft calls small programs 'apps' to appeal to the cellphone folks I guess.
You can't add more memory in the traditional fashion as in swapping out or adding new chips. You are limited to the 2Gb of RAM. (But you can use ReadyBoost and USB FlashDrives).
I can 'Tether' my SmartPhone to a USB port and use the SmartPhone as an Internet source. I measured 10Mb download this way.
BTW I had an Internet outage a few weeks ago and learned about 'Tethering' which kept me from going crazy without Internet. This added to the decision to get something with a larger screen than my SmartPhone.
I also have installed MagicJack on this mini-laptop which also has Skype. So now I have several means of communication if necessary. I keep all of this in a tote bag and will get an extra battery as backup.
Only thing left for me to get is an automobile to laptop charger and perhaps a small Solar charger, perhaps fold-able.
I have no problem with the mouse pad that comes with the machine I did purchase a small wireless Logitech 'couch mouse' which makes my life sooooo much easier. Someone commented about the built-in pad causing problems when using an external mouse if you accidentally touch it. It's true you will be running BOTH at the same time HOWEVER pressing the 'fn' (special function key left lower side) and f9 at the same time will toggle OFF (or on) the built-in pad and no more accidents.
My wireless works great at 'N' speeds and performance is the same as my other computers. Ethernet will always be a better connection than wireless. They both have their uses. Have NOT tried any of the local 'hot spots' yet.
I wish it had handles. Handles would make carrying it around safer and easier to tote. Perhaps I'll look for some straps for carrying when I don't want to use the bag with all its paraphernalia.
I'll be looking into the ASUS boot sometime as someone recommend increasing the amount of memory to the graphics 'card'. The only problem I have had was when it tried to run a super big business security program and there was zero CPU left. I still had RAM but no CPU available, so I need to watch the CPU intensive programs.
The Power Cord fits fine and does NOT fall out. I thought it did when it slipped out but discovered if you apply a bit of pressure it will actually 'snap' and give a firm connection. Amazing.
This is the second week and I plan to update this review from time to time.
I hope my comments were of help to you.
I purchased this Asus 1015E to replace my Acer A1410 which my wife decided she liked so much she took it away from me to use for herself! The A1410 used an older version of the Celeron chip (SU2300), similar to the one in this Asus.
This 64-bit chip allows you to do everything a more powerful processor can do, and even has the virtualization feature, unlike the Atom processors found in most netbooks this size. This puts this computer on a higher level than most of the other netbooks, with either Atom or AMD processors.
I really like the Asus, but I ended up returning it after I discovered that it cannot be upgraded. My A1410 had come with 2GB of RAM just like this Asus, but I upgraded it to 4GB and put in a faster hard drive.
The Amazon description said the Memory type in this Asus was SODIMM, so I assumed it could be upgraded also. After I received it, I discovered that this Asus did not even have an access door on the back to access the memory and hard drive. More research on the internet revealed that similar Asus models come with RAM soldered onto the motherboard and cannot be upgraded.
This does not make it a bad netbook. If I thought that 2GB of RAM and a slow 320GB hard drive were sufficient, I would have been very happy with this choice. But for me, I always like to have more than enough RAM, and 2GB is just barely adequate in my opinion for running Windows. I am a power user and the small size of this unit was the main attraction, but I was planning on having 4GB and an SSD.
I am still giving the 1015E three stars because it is a well designed unit that has a better processor in it than other netbooks comparable in size. If this is what you are looking for and are not doing things that require a lot of RAM, this unit has excellent battery life and instant-on features too.
Asus could be more clear in their literature and specs about upgradability, and of course Amazon could too. At least my review might prevent others from making the same mistake I did.

I got this to replace my wife's Dell Mini 10 netbook. It just arrived today, so I haven't had much time to play around with it yet. Usually I don't buy Amazon products without reviews, but I took a gamble on this recently-released Asus laptop... and I'm glad I did.The first thing I noticed was keyboard.

How to make this notebook run smooth and real fast:0.(Optional).Search on google for classic shell and install.
Honest reviews on ASUS 1015E-DS01-PK 10.1-Inch Laptop (Pink)
I have 4 other computers including an ASUS HD monster gaming machine. I have a 'smartphone' but I purchased this little 10 inch ASUS to fit in-between. This is my 'SURVIVAL computer'. No joking. My intent is to have a computer I can 'grab on the go' and have video phone, Radio, and Internet access just about anywhere. If Internet and Cell is out, there is still a large archive of info I have transferred to read. All my eBooks are available in the Amazon Cloud but I still download them to the Hard drive in case the 'cloud' and my account is unavailable.I hooked it up to my 1Gb home network and transferred (at 100Mb) all kinds of important files, books, maps, 'Kindle for PC program' from Amazon, Email program, program archive, etc, etc..

You CANNOT add RAM or upgrade the Hard Drive to an SSD in this computer. Amazon description is misleading if you read the specs, it says SODIMM under memory type. But this computer contains no capacity for user upgrades. Even if it did have an SO-DIMM slot as Amazon mistakenly says in their specs, there is no access door on the back.I purchased this Asus 1015E to replace my Acer A1410 which my wife decided she liked so much she took it away from me to use for herself!

We bought this laptop for my wife, a public school teacher who travels between sites. We shopped for a pc that was versitile for the classroom and home use and could keep up with her personally and professionally. So far so good.
Pro's:
Thin and lightweight-My work laptop is 2x the weight and thickness with the same performance. I was skeptical of the sturdiness with these super-thin machines but it feels solid, particularly at the hinge where many fail.
Fast-My wife has 0 patience with technology. She needs it to work the first time every time. Without getting techie, the wireless connection is as fast as our router, and we loaded a couple games for her in under 10 minutes from multiple disks. The CD/DVD drive is a nice addition for those times when you want to actually use a CD or DVD. No jumpy graphics so far on Netflix or Hulu.
Screen/graphics/sound-I went back and forth on the best size for the job. Too big and it adds bulk. Too small and it's little more than a tablet. The screen is plenty big and sharp. We couldn't care less between the 720p and 1080p resolution. It looks great. The sound is a little odd. It's very clear but almost too much so. I'm sure there are ways to "dull" it but I'll have to tinker to figure it out.
Storage-the 1000GB and 1T are virtually the same. We have a baby daughter with movies and pictures galore. The hard drive will replace our desktop pc's and still have room for iTunes. I can't imagine filling it up but we used to say that about the old 256ks back in the 90s. Note, the alternative was an HP that topped out at 500GB. Space was a selling point for this pc.
Price-Under $700 for a trusted brand with a fast trusted processor? Done.
Cons:
Processor speed-This is a 2.0ghz series 7 Intel. There are faster ones out there but I haven't found one for this price. If it needs to be faster, get ready to fork over $1,000+.
Resolution-720p is not full HD. It's got the same resolution as our iPad2. If you plan on playing movies via projector it may be worth the full HD but wasn't for us.
Windows8-Maybe not a real con, but it does take a learning curve vs previous versions. More like a mobile device, you have apps that are highly customizable and are really handy once set up. Getting them to that point for a technologically impaired person can be difficult.
All in all, I'd recommend this for anyone looking for a cost/benefit value. It has enough bells and whistles to not be outdated too soon and is still price consious for those not willing to finance a product longer than its useful life.
Performance: the CPU is very fast and I've been pleased to see how responsive the hardware has been to any and all tasks I've thrown at it. The keyboard, however, is quite another matter! Of all the chiclet keyboards I've tried on dozens of laptops of all makes and models, this one rates slightly below average... a huge disappointment! The size and travel of the keys is normal for an island keyboard and the "throw", or the distance from the top of the key to the contact point, is about average. But the tactile feedback or haptic characteristics are hugely disappointing. Compared to most chiclet boards I tested, this keyboard is spongy, mushy, has a flimsy plastic touch and lacks the consistent positive feel needed for error free speed typing. The space bar often fails to function unless it is slapped firmly with the thumb and the only way I've been able to reduce typing error is by slowing down and forcefully hitting each key much like it was done back in the day of the mechanical Smith-Corona typewriters.
The wifi/bluetooth combo functions well and pairing with other devices was simple and straightforward. Using Dell's on board apps, it's easy to make a System Recovery partition on the 1TB hard disk and copying a backup image of all system files. This is one thing I'd recommend doing immediately since there is no recovery disk included in the package.
As the world has already discovered, Windows 8 is geared for touch screens and is maddeningly inappropriate for this particular model. Early on, I installed "Classic Shell" (free app) and settled into a new routine of finger punching an unresponsive keyboard while enjoying the lightening speed of an otherwise excellent laptop computer.
The only thing missing is the Full HD screen, but the HD display is good.
It is very fast, and I think is a very good purchase at the price I bought it.

The technical details list a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080, but after ordering and receiving the laptop, I found out the resolution is actually only 1366 x 768. After searching for over two months for a fast CPU and solid keyboard at a budget price, I stumbled across this Dell 7537 and lost no time placing an order. On arrival, I was a bit surprised to see it was boxed in bare, generic packing with none of the customary Dell literature or warranty card and only a single sheet "Quick Start Guide" enclosed. In fact, about the only identifying information on the entire body was a white Service Tag and a model number "5521" molded on the bottom. I contacted the seller about this and learned that the serial number and the Service Tag number are one in the same, that "plain packaging means BIG savings", and that "Dell has different ways of classifying models...." However, after comparing the features of the 7537 and the 5521, I found no apparent difference between the two.Performance: the CPU is very fast and I've been pleased to see how responsive the hardware has been to any and all tasks I've thrown at it. This laptop has it all. It has a fast CPU and a lot of memory, it has good graphics, not super high end but high definition is great! The sound is awesome for a laptop! Dell always has used high quality parts in all their machines, but they are getting a bit cheaper about the apps that they give you, that is a down side. But for me, the hardware means the most cause the apps come with time, but having a timeless machine gives you that time. I am a Comptia A+ certified tech and the machine is top notch!
