This computer will work well for you if you don't plan to play games or watch movies. We got it for my son and had to return it due to it's slow processing. The sound was minutes behind the video when we attempted to watch Netflix. My son was also not able to play his favorite computer games due to the slow processing.

Honest reviews on Asus X53U-FS11 15.6" Laptop (AMD Dual-Core Processor C-60

Got it around Christmas time. So far, so good. It's a jewel for the price and tackles all I need to do well: Lots of documents, some spreadsheets, play with photos, slideshows, web design, and some video streaming. I haven't done any video editing on it, but I'm thinking it will be fine for my needs. I don't play high-end computer games. My Sweetie put Unreal and some Steam games on his and has no problem with them, but we did max out the RAM, so I'm sure that makes a difference for his gaming.

We're huge Asus fans. I have an Eee netbook I use for back and forth at work (I teach at college so I'm in different rooms all the time), and I've never had a problem with it.

The keyboard is fine, but my big hands constantly bump the mousepad--that's not a new problem with me, so I work around it. The screen's a nice size and has good resolution for me. Flawlessly picked up the WiFi and network printer.

If you're looking for a good basic laptop for common computing applications, I recommend this one.

I bought two of these last September (2012) one for my self, one for my father. For the most part, I like it. However I have found that even with an upgrade to 8 gigs of memory their is a definitely slow processing capability inherent with the C-60 dual core AMD process and on board video. Even with all the latest drivers, and BIOS watching streaming Netflix, Hulu, or even Youtube videos is agonizing. The video often lags the audio by as much as 5 minutes at times. Even running simple programs the CPU is peeked out at 100% and the overall processing speed of the machine is very very slow. The build of it is solid and it looks great. The video quality is very good in HD. The audio is a big lacking though. I'd recommend a good USB or standard audio head set. Additionally, the touch pad, even with the smart pad technology, is very very very touchy and "emotional." In fact I'd say that THAT issue is the most bothersome for me. Over all if you just want a basic slow laptop to serve as a kids tool, not good for video, or gaming, just basic school work, this PC is budgeted well for that task. Otherwise buy a higher end ASUS for better performance in streaming video or gaming.

Overall this laptop is very good. It has a few negatives but mostly positives. One negative is that the laptop comes with a lot of bloat-ware or pure installed crap from asus but after I uninstalled all of it it was fine. Also at first it was running slow and freezing but I then ran a system recovery and now it runs perfect. The graphics chip is pretty good it played most games at 1600 by 900 at high settings very well but I wouldn't reccomend pushing the resolution past that. Also the processor is very powerful and quick with 4 physical and 8 logical cores. The hard drive has plenty of space with 1000 GB or 1 tb of storage but another positive is that their hard drive is a hybrid drive with 8 GB of ssd cache. You may think that 8 GB isn't a whole lot but it makes a HUGE difference in boot up and wake from sleep times. Also the laptop is relatively light and runs very cool also the brushed aluminum finish looks beautiful.

Sony VAIO E15 Series SVE15124CXP 15.5-Inch Laptop (Pink)Really love this laptop-windows 8 was easy to learn, startup was fast, easy to personalize, does well for online games which i am a fan of, super storage space, pink color is very nice, not too loud. Can set keyboard to only light when touched, which helps with the battery life, love it!!

I have had dozens of pc's over the years dating back to the 80's with 286 IBM 6mhz. The brands included Gateway, Emachine, Pbell, Asus, Dell, Toshiba etc. and a beloved Sony Vaio.

In my opinion, I have always thought Sony screens were superior to other brands (with the exception of Apple of course) the screen quality has always been very important to me, and again Sony excels. The screen is simply, stunning.

I was concerned with ordering online, a pink laptop. I was worried the color would be too loud. The color is perfect! It is not loud at all; it is a very soft cotton candy pink.

The laptop feels solid. It is also not a super heavy or bulky laptop, but also not as thin as an ultabook. It has a thin lid that keeps it somewhat light.

I love the soft glow from the keyboard. I often like to sit at night with only a few candles burning and the TV and fireplace on, playing on my laptop and this feature fits perfectly into my life style.

I also love the speedy start up feature. Never saw anything like it. You can shut the laptop totally down, lift the lid and in a few seconds you are ready to go.

Windows 8 has some strange features; example a swipe with your mouse from the top of the screen to the bottom closes your program. I also spent more than a few minutes looking for the X to close programs and looking for the non existing start button. But overall I like Windows 8.

The laptop itself is very speedy. I watched a few HD movies on netflex and they ran perfectly with no lag. I also like to play online Facebook games etc., again the speed was lighting fast.

I can't comment on the battery, because I almost never unplug my laptop so this feature is not important to me.

The price is a very good value. I didn't want to spend over $500.00 since I normally replace my laptop every few years. I saw this pc listed for $60.00 bucks more and went the extra mile. I am so glad I did.

I also love Amazon. I have been a member with Amazon since they started back in the 90's. I have never had any issues at all with Amazon. I also knew if I was not satisfied or happy, Amazon would, as they always do take care of me. So I was very confident placing my order.

What I don't like about this laptop, nothing. I totally love it!

I got this for a great price and I was able to take advantage of the 1 day shipping if using a Discover card. It arrived on time and I had it set up on no time. Wasn't sure if I would like Windows 8, but it works well for me and it didn't take long to get the hang of the new start menu tiles. The pink color is sure to deter my husband and son from getting on my computer...at least I hope so.

Honest reviews on Sony VAIO E15 Series SVE15124CXW 15.5-Inch Laptop (White)

I bought this laptop for myself for school and college next year.

The resolution is so amazing, and the speakers are crystal clear

It's so pretty, and its fast! I love the backlight keyboard for working in the dark.

The rapid wake is so awesome, close the laptop lid and it goes to sleep, open it back up and it loads up everything in a matter of seconds!

The 15.5 inch is perfect, it's not too big and its not too small (hence includes the numeric keypad).

I'm also into gaming a bit, (not like super intense hardcore gaming where the fps has to be at least 30) but this laptop gets done with what I want it to.

An added bonus is the Imagination Studio, I love editing videos together and my desktop has gotten so old (2004) and lost so much space, that it hasn't been able to get the job done, with Sony Vegas I can do all that.

Now the cons:

The webcam.... is god awful, they advertise HD but its max output is 1MP, so you're better off hooking up a different webcam

The touchpad is also really sensitive and hard to get used to, especially with Windows 8 and that new format

My laptop came with part of the plastic backing loose and very fragile looking so I'm hoping a quick fix with super glue will help that EDIT: Nope it snapped back into place!

So yeah, there aren't really many that issues with it all! I'm not really into Windows 8, but I figured I'd have to learn it eventually, and yeah, it's definitely going to take me a while. I already have a webcam to my desktop so I'm going to see how well that looks. Also I'm buying a mouse because in general, laptop touch pads and I just dont really agree, and just so you know USB mice work just fine if you don't want to splurge on a high priced wireless one. Also if you look on the internet and even Amazon says the battery life is 2.75 hours, don't worry, there are plenty of ways to adjust it, you're more likely to have 3-4 hours of straight web surfing, as for me I'm the type to keep my laptop plugged in for a majority of the time. Fingers crossed it lasts through the next 4 years of college!

EDIT MARCH 6, 2013:

So that little plastic piece I was talking about, yeah it broke. I glued it and taped it, oh well.

Some small cosmetic scratches have also appeared, so I'm looking for a skin cover too

Also about a month ago, my Windows did an update and had to restart when it got back to the login screen everything froze up, but not exactly, just that I couldn't get my keyboard to work (it wasn't connecting) but the system still was because the clock would change. I eventually had to use the assist function on it (which was working with the keyboard) and do a refresh, which uninstalled all my programs. So safe to say now I'm backing up all installation files.

I Had To Constantly Remove The Battery Due To The Laptop Freezing Up Each Day. However, It Is A Very Good Laptop Otherwise, Fast For A 6 Year Old System. I Had To Return It Due To This Problem.

Pros:

It's cheap, cheap, cheap. Does a decent job for the price. Feels very tough and sturdy.

Cons:

It's kind of heavy and the battery life isnt going to carry you that long (roughly 2.5 hours with LinuxOS and *I think* old battery) but I leave it plugged in most of the time and have watched a 2 hour movie on the battery alone.

The R52 is getting pretty old tech in laptop terms. I don't use it for any heavy/intense gaming or anything it should last for quite a while :)

Recommendation:

Buy it if you want a simple browsing laptop or to read/watch some movies on it.Maybe as a backup to store your personal data that you need to quickly access if your main computer ever goes down. Don't expect some awesome machine though; it's a dinosaur!

PS Double check what you're getting! If it says no HD you need to get one (I bought a small flat usb drive and put Linux on it, works great) Does it come with a charger? (I have the cheap chinese charger on here and it works fine) Are there any other problems with it?

Goodluck

I bought this great looking, good specifications computer this past March. Since then the screen has split from its housing and ASUS customer service refused to fix it under warranty. The problem is that the screen is too skinny to support the force required to open and close the lid. DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE. This is clearly bad manufacturing and a company who does not stand behind their 2 year warranty and 1 year accidental damage policy. A defect should always be covered under the first year with no question about having to pay for a repair. I really like the machine but the screen not opening and closing properly is probably the worst defect you could possibly have. Thanks for nothing ASUS.

UPDATE 10/26/12. I finally got a manager to pay for the shipping back to the warehouse. They fixed it within a week which was not too bad. The only downfall is that this problem is a defect and will probably happen again. So unless you want to deal with this problem, DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL. The customer service experience was horrible and took five months to complete just to get a shipping label for this issue. ASUS does not win my business ever again.

UPDATE 09/16/13. The CD-ROM is having issues now with the registry making it inoperable for now. I tried to go back and restore to an earlier time and that's not working...and obviously the drivers disk it came with it is now useless. Hopefully I can find the driver online and re-install it. Or call ASUS, but I don't know about that. lol

This laptop is absolutely terrible. Looking at it, it was everything I wanted in a laptop, long battery life and great specs and very lightweight. Unfortunately, it broke only a couple months after I started using it. Windows just stopped working for no reason and I had done nothing that should've broken it. The default hard drive that comes with the laptop, based on the experiences of others, seems to have some problems. Not only that, this laptop has TERRIBLE overheating issues. I have sat this laptop on a cooling fan just playing minecraft and it STILL overheats even with the cooling fan on it. Without the cooling fan it will overheat just doing absolutely minimal tasks like watching videos on the internet. The specs are irrelevant because this laptop cannot handle doing anything that would utilize them. After the hard drive went, I switched to a new one and put Linux Mint on it and it worked fine for about a year, but now the charger has just stopped working. I am fed up. Please do not waste your money on this piece of trash, I feel like I have been robbed of $800. By far the worst purchase I have ever made.

Best Deals for ASUS U46SM-DS51 14.1-Inch Laptop (Silver)

This Laptop was the Laptop of my dreams, combining all the requirements I wanted fulfilled by my laptop in a fairly good price. In the last year, despite certain failings of the laptop I loved it and until a few days ago I would have still given it 3-4 stars. Up until then, the problems I had with it were quite minor (In my opinion) as the headphone jack was loose, the USB 3.0 port didn't always work and the laptop occasionally failed to resume after hibernation. As of a few weeks ago, my USB 3.0 port has failed to work entirely. This said, I do not really have anything that can use it to its full potential and so do not really care, I only really use 1 USB port anyways, for my wireless mouse. The headphone jack being loose is probably my fault for being a tad rough whenever I unplugged my headphones so the problem is probably not the fault of the manufacturer. The hibernation failure, meanwhile, came out of nowhere and I'm still not sure how to fix it, although information on how to do so may be online. However, the problem I had that absolutely killed this laptop for me was how the battery, died two days ago before I went on a long trip. One day it was working fine and I could easily take it around with charge lasting 2-3 hours on high performance and the next it would die on being unplugged from its AC life support system. It went from being a healthy young adult to a frail senior on his/her deathbed within 12 hours. According to the powercfg energy report the battery was last fully charged to about 84% of its capacity so I am not sure what the problem is, whether it is the battery, the AC adapter or some other internal issue.

On the plus side it still works with the battery removed if the AC adapter is plugged in.

So up until this last problem occurred, I was quite happy with this laptop, especially since I am a gamer and kept it under constant stress. I have never till now had a laptop/computer I could game on and this handles most of the games I would want to play quite well. Although some of the newer more graphically/CPU intensive games may not run on it I am still pleased as it can do better than anything I had before. The battery life was also quite long when it existed as I could probably get about 5 hours on balanced/quiet office settings with the standard integrated GPU running instead of the NVIDIA GPU that I have been keeping running almost exclusively due to certain situations.

I plan on sending the laptop to the ASUS service center soon and hope that the problems will be fixed. Although judging by the experiences of my peers, this may be quite the ordeal I am about to go through. I will update this review after I either get it back or have some other horrible/great(one can dream) experience with their service staff.

Honest reviews on ASUS U46SM-DS51 14.1-Inch Laptop (Silver)

I bought this product five months ago in May from this seller, and it worked beautiful from then until yesterday when my hard drive decided to go right after a Windows update. It was working perfectly fine that morning before the update, but after, it froze and wouldn't perform basic tasks. I've already contacted Asus about it and I'm trying to back up my files (to no avail, since the system is slow as molasses), but I feel like with such a new computer, I shouldn't be having such a problem. My friend bought the same exact computer, several months before me, and it's still working fine for her. I don't understand what the issue is. Did I just get a bad computer?

I actually purchased this laptop a week ag from Staples for about $100 less than the Amazon price. I love it! I agree, Windows 8 takes some getting used to, but the more I use it the more comfortable I am with it. I simply use the Windows 7 desktop that I can easily access from the "Metro" desktop that comes up when I first log on. Also, the Metro desktop shows all the files and program shortcuts that I have on my Windows 7 desktop. They are located over on the extreme right side of the display, and so its only takes a second to get to the programs I use...without even having to go to the Windows 7 desktop.

I love the nice, crisp display. The keyboard is like silk and it's size makes it, at least for me, very easy to use. The Fn keys are useful, and having a separate number pad is terrific. This laptop also has both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 outlets, which is a real plus. The only thing that is a very slight disappointment is that the battery only last 4 hours, but considering that the battery on the 7 year old Toshiba I had been struggling with (as a second computer just for email and writing)only lasted 15 minutes, 4 hours is a breath of fresh air.

I would buy this computer over and over again. It seems to be a fantastic machine.

Additional comments two weeks later:

I still really like this machine, with just one complaint...the display has a blue cast that is impossible to get rid of, no matter how many color corrections I try. I've been able to reduce the blue cast significantly, but if I go try to reduce it further in the color cast setting or in the processor settings, the cast starts turning green or red. Since I use this computer to do some photo editing, I'll just have to make the color cast corrections (which are usually only white balance changes) with my desktop that has a 22" ViewSonic LED and is connected directly to the printer. I have tried three HP G7 laptops, two with AMD processors and one with the Intel i3 processor, and they all have the same cast, so it's the display and not the processor. If anybody has any success correcting this, let me know.

Incidentally, I LOVE Windows 8. Nearly all the low ratings for this computer are because of Windows 8 and not the computer itself. I've been through XP, Windows 7, and now Windows 8, and I think 8 is far better than the other two. Here's what I like so far:

The charms provide easy and quick access to all those files, folders, programs, and system tools that were so darn hard to find, particularly if they're in the control panel. Just type in the name of what you are looking for and the links to the item show up instantly. Very cool.

I can switch back and forth between the media window and the traditional Windows 7 desktop with a simple push of the windows button on the lower left side of the keyboard. And get this every program I install has a shortcut on the traditional desktop AND the media desktop. Since they open at least three times faster when I access them on the media desktop, I always start there. And...with some patience, I've been able to move all the programs I use to the left side of the media desktop so they are front and center on my display at startup; a piece of cake.

One aggravation is that I have not figured out how to make a shortcut to the system tools I use "create a restore point" and "computer management" to put on the desktop. If anybody knows how, please let me know because I use these tools a lot.

I have bought several lately of various brands, 2 of this one for me and my wife. This one is the fastest. Windows 8 can take some adjustment if one is not tech oriented, so I downloaded classic shell and it opened up old school familiarity with new app functionality.

Best Deals for Toshiba Satellite L875D-S7332 17-Inch Notebook Laptop

This Toshiba is a great laptop for the price and it has a decent amount of memory and disk space, although you can find it cheaper elsewhere. The display is slightly larger and movies look good on it. I personally dislike Windows 8, but that's a minor problem once you get used to it. I also purchased a Toshiba 3TB external hard drive for all my movies and both work excellently.

Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite L875D-S7332 17-Inch Notebook Laptop

Like others I have found this laptop for a much lower price (in my case $299 after rebate) at local brick and mortar office supply stores (Office Depot). It is last years model so it is on clearance. It runs fine and has a very, very nice screen and keyboard. It took a while to get used to the mouse pad but with a bit of tweaking of the settings it settled down OK. Still, it works much better with an external mouse but that is just my personal preference. Windows 8 took 1/2 to get used to but Toshiba provides a single click link to the traditional desktop. My fifth version of Windows so I guess I've gotten used to making transitions. So I am very, very happy. Was ready to spend up to $200 more to get a 17.3 inch screen with 500+ GB of disk and 6+ GB of RAM but didn't need to.

My company bought me this laptop. From day one I have issues with it. It was causing USB power surge errors. Well, to fix that they had to replace the motherboard. Then my wireless adapter card went bad and they had to replace that as well. This laptop is only about 6 months old. I would not recommend.

Best Deals for Dell Latitude E6530 Laptop Computer - 3rd gen Intel Core i5-3230M

Hello All. I rarely write reviews, which I feel bad about as I have benefited from many of the reviews here on Amazon.

After my recent experience with Dell, I feel compelled to warn buyers about a very serious design flaw, which I am told is common to all the current latitudes.

There is no bios display on the external monitor when my E6530 is plugged into the laptops VGA port or the docking station's dvi ports. You do not see anything on the external monitor until Windows starts up and loads the nvidia driver. What this means is that, should you set up a bios password for the startup or HDD, the screen to enter it during startup will not show up on the external monitor. The only way to see it is to disable optimus, and use the docking station's vga port or display port. Also, it will not show up if using HDMI either.

Again it will not show up on the external monitor if you are using the laptop vga port or the dvi ports of the docking station. If you have the laptop in the Dell docking station in a Dell monitor stand using the DVI ports you will never see the password screen. So you have to wait and guess when it is ready and then blindly enter the password. If it does not work, or if there is a windows start up problem you will have to pull the laptop off of the docking station and boot it independently to determine the issue. I have never seen a laptop ever have this flaw.

I pursued this through technical support which replaced my mother board twice and then landed me in the Customer Resolution Department. The tech support was very good. In the end I was told this was "working as intended". Since I was past my 30 days to return, there is nothing they could do for me. When I asked if I could get a discount on a monitor that has a display port, I was told they would call my account team. So I am relegated to using the old vga technology.

Consider how this limitation will affect you and your business. Security is critical these days. I will be looking into Lenovo or HP systems. I suggest you do the same before buying a latitude from Dell.

Honest reviews on Dell Latitude E6530 Laptop Computer - 3rd gen Intel Core i5-3230M

This is the first time I write a review. I had used quite a few laptops in the past and I just got this Latitude E6530 yesterday. It is a very powerful computer. I think it is not fair to give 1 star for a good product, and that is the reason I put my 2 cents in here.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Dell Latitude E6530 Laptop Computer - 3rd gen Intel Core i5-3230M

New Latitude e6530 looks great, BUT essentially is not usable. Dell decided to shift the keyboard to the very left and add the full numeric pad (for what?). As a result:

-you essentially having space of 12" laptop to put you hands on (that is none!)

-you can not keep it on your lap, as you type on the left part of the laptop and it falls down

-you mistype all the time since keyboard and your hands are on the left of the center of the screen

There are other ergonomic blunders: sharp metallic edge around laptop is unpleasantly cold and hurts your hands, touch pad is too close to the edge. After 3 days of working on this laptop my left hand became dysfunctional and hurts. Also surfaces and in particular fancy cover soils easily. I have older Dell Latitude and it seems that it was made by an entirely different company.

Don't buy this, unless all you intend to do is to calculate you gains/losses on the numeric pad.

I am the director of IT for a small company in Wisconsin, and I needed a reliable business class machine that gives me all the tools that I need for administration and support of about 150 computers. I gave the chromebook a try because most of the tools that I use are web based (gmail, google docs, logmein, pixlr, wordpress, etc) but I learned quickly that the machine was not a good fit for what I needed.

I upgraded to this machine, and in the first week of use, it's been very reliable. The 14" screen and weight of under 5 lbs is nice for moving from place to place, as I do all the time. The VGA output is nice for using a desktop monitor / keyboard / mouse as a dual screen desktop machine.

The Core i3 w/ 4GB of ram, 500GB hard drive, and windows 7 Pro 64 bit is not my favorite operating system, but it's the most supported platform for all of the programs that we have out in our infrastructure of about 150 computers across 10 buildings.

The machine includes a creative suite for editing, which I haven't used yet, but the DVD burner is nice for making disks and 2 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 are nice for plugging in many devices.

I would recommend this machine as a good quality business machine to upgrade users or power users or administrators who have machines that are from the Pentium 4 / or Core 2 Duo Era that are still running XP.

I purchased my first HP laptop in 2003 and it quit working last year, in 2012. While I did double the RAM twice and replace the hard drive, I was thoroughly impressed with how long it performed even after being bumped around traveling and exposed to the elements of my work environment. This new HP ProBook seems to have the same feel in regard to layout and the construction is quite nice, noticeably light. Combine that with the i3 processor, 4gb RAM, and Windows 7; I continue to be impressed. Go HP!

The L640-L655 Toshibas have a serious software and BIOS issue with the cooling fan. The issue is well-documented on the official Toshiba forum. The cooling fan runs fast and loud (you will not be able to use this computer in airplanes, libraries, classrooms, group work sessions, etc. due to fan speed). The loud fan will prematurely wear out the fan spindle, and uses excessive battery. I am encouraging anyone even considering the purchase of these lines of TOshiba computers to do online research and search these words: Toshiba forum cooling fan constantly. You will see many threads, but the main one has now thousands of views and elucidates the problem well. If you don't wish to look at it now, you will be looking at it intently once you purchase this model of TOshiba. Thus far, there is no fix for this cooling fan software issue. I am posting here as an owner of a Toshiba in this product line and simply as a method to help my fellow Amazon shoppers with a known issue. You certainly can buy or pass based on your own experience and research. Thank you and happy computing.

6/82011: Still issues. Some Toshiba laptops have a fan and cooling issue that is software related.

Google "Toshiba forum cooling fan constantly on", or highlight and right click what I have type here to see the 13 page thread on this subject. The most recent 5 pages are 3-4 non-Toshiba computer programmers trying to solve the problem as Toshiba has been uncaring and useless. The key is to read the thread from the beginning to review all the people who first define the problem. I encourage anyone seeking a Toshiba computer to review the thread to see if their model is affected before purchase--most models are with AMD processors, but some are Intel latest chipsets (e.g. i5). It is not "a few bad computers", it is computers in each of the series specified. The post on the Toshiba Forum from FunkeA dated May 30, 2011 at 4:11pm has a list of Toshibas affected by this issue.

This post is totally informational for you, a potential buyer, so that you can make your own informed decision about which computer to buy before making the purchase. Whether you buy Toshiba, one of these models, a different model, or a different brand, is completely up to you. Thanks and have fun time computer hunting.

Haven't had this unit very long but all seems to be great at this point. I like the small screen and light weight. I would suggest buying a Toshiba wireless mouse to use with this instead of the built in one or a cheap one like Microsoft. Love the LED screen, crisp and clean picture. First time user of Windows 7 so just getting used to it. More later as I use it more.

The design is very good. I bought this computer for my 9 year old nephew. It is easy to use, yet allows your processor to work fast and efficiently. Although the use that we are giving is very basic I'm sure you can work heavier.

It has built-in web cam is an important detail.

We have not had any kind of technical failure, so we are very happy. By the excellent results already bought another one.

This is my first AND LAST Toshiba product! Bought two laptops (L645DS4050) last December and just having WAY too many issues with them both. My kids complain constantly about various issues including NOISE (very noisy fan, running hot, random shutdowns and rebooting issues etc. etc.

Now one of them has a broken left click button too! Not to mention the very cheap feel of these things. My Dell Inspiron is 10 times quieter, better quality and ZERO issues.

Goodbye Toshiba, hello Dell!

Purchased and built mine directly from HP minus the Blue-Ray Player. I was satisfied with my purchase although I wish the user had more control over the NVIDIA display. When the laptop starts up you can see the colors switch. Although the black brushed aluminum finish is very nice it seems as though it's not as nice as my Macbook Pro. It seems like there is no finish that seals the brushed aluminum and it must be fairly dense because I take great care of my things and it already has light scratches where the black has come off and small dents after months of use. I don't even take it out most of the day. I'm hoping HP will replace mine and that the next one will be better but I'm not sure about that. Not feeling very happy with the quality of the materials and the version I built was not super cheap.

I love this laptop. I was able to set it up and connect to my wireless network quickly. It has run smoothly since. The display is gorgeous, and they keyboard has a nice feel. It obviously comes with bloatware that needs to be removed, but I don't know of any laptop that doesn't. I purchased this to replace my previous Acer Aspire that I have had since 2005. The only reason I am replacing the 2005 laptop is because the screen is starting to go out. Other than the screen going out, I did not have a single problem with my previous Acer for 7 years (used daily for work and internet). I hope this one holds out just as long.

This laptop is beyond what I thought it would be. It is superb. It runs great works fast and efficiently. It's the best solid investment in technology I've ever made. This laptop is truly top of the line. I highly recommend it. Not just for work but also for playing games. All I can say is wow!

Honest reviews on Acer Aspire V3-731-4695 17.3-Inch Laptop (Midnight Black)

Ordered this laptop on the night of Wednesday 26th September. Selected the 2 day shipping option and it got to my skybox in Miami as promised on Monday 1st October. Took 2 days to get to me (Trinidad and Tobago) and another day for it to be sent out for delivery.

Hubby's a first time laptop owner, so he's having desktop withdrawal symptoms. I have no doubt he'll warm up to it eventually.

That said, as a laptop owner myself, I've tried out the laptop and it works really well. I have a v3-771G-9875 and it compares well, in spite of their obvious differences if you google the specs. As far as looks go, it's identical to mine, there is no difference in the housing.

Granted it's only been a few days, I'm very pleased with it's performance so far. Works well online, which is the main reason it was bought.

Will update later on if there's anything I'd like to add.

To anyone who's thinking about getting this laptop, don't hesitate, the price, shipping costs and processing time fluctuates day to day from what I've noticed since purchasing it here.....I was lucky to have the free 5-8 day shipping option (which, as I mentioned, I upgraded to 2 day at a cost) and it was able to process almost immediately.

October 18th, 2012

As anticipated, the price of this laptop has gone up to US$574.99 plus $9.14 S&H and is coming from the UK and not from Amazon.com LLC as I did.

Hubby now has laptop fever and wonders why on earth he had desktop separation anxiety.

This is a really great laptop for the price we got it for.

I paid US$449.99 plus 2 day air of US$19.20 = $469.19

I bought this laptop a couple of weeks ago (not from Amazon), and am very impressed with it. It's plenty fast for everything I've tried on it. After removing the bloatware that I didn't want/need, I installed a number of my own programs and games, and was pleasently surprised by the overall speed and graphics quality. For grins 'n giggles, I loaded Assassin's Creed on it, and the game ran great with no tweaking at all. A tremendous improvement over other laptops I tried.

I also have an older Gateway M6850-fx with dedicated video and RAM that I paid about 2.5 times more than this one, and I have to say, there isn't much difference in video performance between the two. If the Gateway wins out, it isn't by much.

Great job, Acer!!

We ordered this machine because of the excellent specs for the given price point. However, we encountered blue screen issues for our first unit, and also on the second unit we ordered as replacement.

The first unit worked well; but after a few hours of surfing the net, it blurted a "blue screen". We kept the machine for a few more days thinking that this is a legit error or conflict that will eventually be resolved by driver updates and/or windows updates. The blue screen, however, continued to hound the machine and has appeared intermittently for two weeks. We decided to return the item for a replacement for the same item.

The second machine (replacement unit) arrived and we were quite happy of the fast turnaround (three days shipping is awesome). We opened the package, seated the battery in place and turned on the machine for some testing. After only a few minutes of surfing the internet, we were shocked to see the same blue screen (no time to check up the error codes though) on this second unit. We decided to ship this one back on the very next day; it's quite unusual to have the same blue screen issue to appear for two identical machines.

We are not really sure as to what's the problem with these machines, but I guess part of our expectation is for the machine to work well out-of-the-box. I haven't heard or read too much issues with Windows 7 on a well-built machine throwing out blue screens when you haven't even installed much software into it. We were disappointed with this particular machine only FX400-062US (we previously owned an MSI U123 netbook, it never encountered issues like this) and would not want to have it anymore. We requested for a refund so we can get something that at least works with regards to specifications and common customer expectations. I hope this helps you.

For the price and functionality of this laptop, it sure beats investing in something less functional such as an iPad (not trying to bash the iPad). My main goal was a portable device to take with me to be able to work on, tether a camera on a photo shoot, take notes in meetings with clients, or show a client my portfolio.

Overall, it is a really good size for me. I used to have a 17" laptop which became too cumbersome to lug around everywhere.

I do have a few gripes... the "a" key has a different springy feel when pressed, and the left mouse button has a jiggle when released. I'll see if a break in period losens these up. I also noticed that he lid when closed has a little bit of play on the one side. ...ok, maybe I rate it 3.5 stars.

The matte black finish of the machine is very cool, and overall it is very light.

I have had this laptop for 3 years now and it has held up great so far. The battery life is excellent and the computer has enough grunt to get through most work. The computer runs solidworks fine as well as games fairly well. It isn't the most powerful laptop but it is certainly more than enough power for typical users and even those who need a simple workstation type computer for graphic or design work. I mainly purchased this laptop for its size and weight as I use this as a portable workstation. My only complaint would be the track-pad. The track pad itself works great but the position is a little awkward and it can be bumped when typing causing the mouse pointer to move. I normally use a mouse and disable the trackpad so this isn't too much of an issue for me. When it is time to upgrade again, I would definitely consider MSI.

Honest reviews on MSI FX400-062US 14-Inch Laptop (Black)

My brother spent over 700 dollars on this trash like notebook that crashes and freezes in such random times. I didn't do any upgrades and used it just as it came. This computer was always on a desk, meaning I never carried it around or dropped it. After only three months of using it, the CD rom drive stopped working. I could not get it to open it even after talking to tech support rep. I sent it to their repair center, which took literally over three weeks AFTER RECEIVING the notebook (I checked the tracking). I got it back and CD rom is opening now but still don't use it much because it started to act funny again... I don't feel like sending it again because you can't fix a product that is built like a garbage like this one. Just don't waste your money on this particular FX models.

Hard drive ruined in less than 7 months. Warranty work not being fulfilled after 2.5 weeks. No way to get any of the technical support to answer to the status on the computer. This thing does not even deserve to be a one star. AWFUL.

I got one of these from Dell and have been immensely satisfied with it.

Pros:

Truly gorgeous and bright screen.

Laptop's cheese-wedge-shaped design is great because there's not a large "ledge"

Good performance, comes with good video card and supports up to 8 GB RAM. I do a lot of 3D modeling and this has made my life so much easier compared to my old machine.

Second headphone jack makes it perfect for watching DVDs with your buddy while you're stuck in Afghanistan

Windows 7 works like a champ and looks great

Facial recognition software (FastAccess) makes login fast, easy, somewhat fun (not sure if Amazon config has this). May not work if the room lighting is weird.

Attractive design, battery has fair life and doesn't stick out like the badonkadonk my wife's HP.

Laptop speakers that don't suck. Awesome. Also convenient, responsive media controls.

Quiet keyboard. Not sure if this config has the backlit version, but if so you are in for a treat. Very nifty and useful in low light.

Easy 1-door access panel on bottom for upgrade action

SD/Media Card reader to get your camera photos, etc

Cons:

Can get warm. Best used in combination with a Zalman ZM-NC2000 Notebook cooler. The cooler runs off USB (but you don't lose a port because it has some on it), keeps the laptop from getting warm, and fits perfectly. I suggest the black one.

Somewhat hefty. But hey, it's a "desktop replacement" size.

Only 3 USB ports

No number pad functionality

All things considered I'm very pleased with my purchase and I can definitely recommend this model laptop for for someone who travels occasionally but not frequently.

I love this laptop. I wanted to get a laptop for school, and shopped around a little bit, I almost got a dell insperon, but Dell was having a sale, and this computer was $100.00 off! So I bought it, and I love it.

The 15.6 inch screen is really nice, you can see a lot, and 720p resolution is actually really good looking on this laptop. I like the glossy screen, but if you are sitting next to a window there might be too much glare.

The HDMI output is a very nice feature because you can hook your computer to your TV and watch movies, or play games.

I dont know if the one on amazon has the included backlit keyboard, but it is a very nice feature. The keys are very hard to see in the dark without it.

It is really fast with 4 gigs of ram, it can convert movies to another format in an hour with the 2.2GHz dual core processor.

This laptop gets warm when you use it, but I have never had it get too hot. It has good battery life. I have gotten 5 and a half hours out of it just surfing the web, and I have watched 2 movies back to back on an airplane, the movies were not dvds (I copied the dvds to my computer beforehand because the optical drive takes a lot of power).

Overall I would recommend this laptop. This was my first laptop of my own, and I am really happy with it.

I have a variation of the 1555 Studio configuration which consists of:

1) P8700 Processor

2) 4Gb Ram

3) Full 1080x1920 screen

4) 500gb 7200rpm hard drive

5) ATI HD4670 1GB GPU

6) BlueRay drive

I bought it around Black Friday directly from Dell for just over a grand.

Based on some of the comments/negative reviews of this computer, I'd like to say that I have owned and used Dell computers for over 10 years, and aside from one really crap Optiplex220 workstation, have had nothing but good experiences with them across a diverse range of computers including everything from a Dell Mini 10 to a couple XPS gaming machines (before I got wise and started building my own gaming computers about 5 years ago). As a brand, Dell is frequently maligned for being either cheaply made or offering poor service. I can say that in my experience, neither is true. (And to put that in context I work in a an office with about 8 dell workstations that I am responsible for maintaining, in addition to the Dells I've owned personally). I've gotten great service from them including an overnight battery replacement (under warranty) when it really counted. So, while I recognize that any company as large as Dell is going to have some misses, my personal experience has been excellent.

I'd also like to say that I own 5 computers (counting my wife's) including an HP, a custom built gaming computer, and even an Apple. I work with a whole host of computers on a daily basis (Macs included) and am not a fanboy of any brand or manufacturer, nor do I engage in the stupid PC vs. Mac debates. I love technology in general, and will go wherever I can get the features I want for the best price to enable me to finish the task at hand. I bought this Studio 1555 to replace my workstation since I wanted to be able to work remotely more easily.

Now on to my actual review:

First off, there is one thing I really dislike about this notebook and that is the keyboard (which I'm using to type this review). It's not a tactile thing, or responsiveness, my typical complaint against keyboards in general. The keyboard squeaks. Not all the time and not loudly, but certain keys on the right side, including the backspace key, make a slight chirping sound that I find very irritating.

What I love about the notebook far eclipses that one irritation, and the screen alone more than makes up for it. As one of the very, very few 15" notebooks that offers full 1080x1920 resolution, it is also one of the cheapest. If you're going to buy just ONE upgrade for this notebook, make it that one. Having that much real estate on such a beautiful screen is worth every penny. SONY is the only other computer maker I could find with 15" notebooks with full 1080p resolution, and they are on average $500 more than this dell. You could argue they are better (less weight, possibly more stylish, etc.) but the bottom line is that the Studio 1555 with a 1080p screen for around a grand is a GREAT deal. Especially considering the screen is beautiful.

The feature set on the Studio 1555 series is also quite good with the newer, faster P series processors leading the way. With their architecture they also use less power, which means a P series notebook will run longer than an identical T series notebook, all things being equal. Windows 7 64-bit being standard is awesome, and once coupled with 4gb (or even 8gb if you want to pay through the nose) of ram, make this a very speedy machine. Boot times are great, and I can easily multitask with several demanding applications with no slowdown.

Aesthetically, the notebook is good, but not fantastic. I elected to get the 'chainlink black' version since I use this notebook for work and didn't need a fancy lid. The layout is functional and logical without being superior (this is where SONY excels--they're probably the only company with a sense of style that rivals Apple). The port configuration is great, with everything you'd expect (HDMI, 3-USB, Esata, SD card reader, VGA) and then a few bonuses (FireWire800, and TWO headphone jacks--fantastic for sharing a BlueRay with someone on a flight, etc...)

The Build quality is average to good. The aforementioned keyboard squeak lowers this category significantly, as does the heat build up on the panel below the keyboard which makes my wrists sweat a little bit. Thankfully Dell did make some solid improvements, including a really good hing for the screen which is heavy duty enough to make me believe the screen will open&close without losing any firmness for years. The charger is adequate, but with a strange layout that defies logic--the power cord (the end that plugs into the wall) is very short at about 3-feet. The single power cable that runs to the ntoebook itself is fairly long, but I'd really like to see dell make a power adapter more like HPs with a nice long cable on both ends (from the wall to the adapter and then from the adapter to the notebook).

Battery life is fantastic and better than I expected. Even when taxing the n-band wireless while streaming videos or downloading files (which uses a lot of power) I can still get 3.5-4hrs out of the notebook. If all I'm doing is word processing, e-mailing, and other light tasks, I can get upwards of 5 hours. If you set your power profile to the minimum, it is possible to get Dell's claimed 7 hours, but you'll have to live with a very dim monitor and no wifi usage to achieve those numbers--not many real world applications where that would work.

PROs:

1) Excellent and truly top-notch screen (1920x1080 HIGHLY recommended)

2) Great feature set for the price, especially with a few well chosen upgrades

3) Functional design that while not convincingly beautiful, is very well suited to getting work done.

4) Quality components for the price

5) Very solid battery life

CONs:

1) Squeaky keyboard

2) Strange, less than stellar power adapter

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I bought this notebook to replace my workstation in my office. It's more than exceeded my expectations overall. With a better keyboard I'd happily give it 5 stars, but that one element is distracting enough to downgrade the Studio 1555 to 4 stars. If you want a very strong feature set for the price, you have to at least consider the Studio 1555 series from Dell. Check out the comments section of this review for some thoughts on configuration/prices if buying from Dell.

4/5 Stars. Recommended for those that value quality screens over pretty aesthetics.

Honest reviews on Dell Studio 1555 15.6-Inch Black Laptop

Dell has a serious flaw in the design of this and their newer laptops/notebooks. They are making computers thinner and lighter which ends up restricting the airflow. This causes internal parts to overheat. The typical result in my computer is that the graphics card will overheat and cause the system to lock up.

I have this Dell Studio 15" with factory upgraded ram and other goodies totaling about $1000 investment. Since the new box arrived at my door a year ago, it has continually crashed and locked-up. Dell support has tried everything under the sun, short of giving me a new computer. This includes sending techs to my house and replacing internal parts like the graphics card, motherboard, etc. Alas, nothing changes. The fan always runs at full throttle within moments of start-up. If I try to watch a video or even if a web-page has anything using flash, immediately graphics card failure occurs resulting an over-sized cursor and a total system lock-up. My only option is to do a hard system shutdown. Disabling flash or other scripts only delays the inevitable.

I have owned several Dells in the past and WAS a huge fan of Dell; however, this experience has left me very frustrated and disappointed. One tech advised me to purchase a Toshiba as they are not having this issue because their laptops are still a little bulkier providing better airflow.

This is the Dell Studio 15 inch laptop (Green Colored Case). I think this a great lap top and it gets the job done. I kept reading all the negative reviews and i have no idea why there's so much bad press. I have never once called customer service and i ordered my laptop at Dell directly through their website. I have no reason to contact customer service and i never experienced any problems at all with any of my Dell products. I get so baffled when i read all these negative reviews. My Dell products which i have had for years including a Dell desktop and a recently purchased new netbooks have never been a problem. The desk top i have is more than 6 years old and I never have any problems. It runs great. It can definitely benefit from an upgrade in some areas.

The Studio line is Dell's midrange laptops. The Inspiron being there low end range for consumers that just need a standard laptop. The Dell Studio laptop is completely plastic and it's a bit on the heavy side in my opinion. Maybe because i am so use to my light weight Dell 10 min netbook that i have been spoiled. This is a good lap top. However, i think the flaw in Dell is that their products can get very pricey very quickly. Especially when you are adding in high end features like 6GB RAM rather than 3GB RAM or 2.99GHZ instead of 2.33GHZ etc. You can get the same thing at HP for probably around a hundred dollars less and their quality feels a bit more refined, polished, and sturdy. That being said if you check Dell's website they do have deals going on all the time especially on holidays. But for some reason the price never seems as low as it should be. If you check periodically you will find yourself a deal. I go to that website religiously and build the exact same laptop that I have and it always comes up to more money. I got mine on a special promo.

I really regret getting the green covered case. I didn't realize how bright it would be and once i opened it out of the box I really wish i purchased the Dark Blue or Dark Purple colored case. It's really way too bright. I like the personalization options of the different colors, but i really do regret getting this bright Caribbean green color. My laptop also includes the backlit keyboard which is great for typing in the dark. It also has touch sensitive controls towards the top of the keyboard near the speakers and i think that's a great plus. The DVD is also an optical drive, so there is no door that slides out for you to pop in your DVD. It's like a Playstation 3 slot. You slide the DVDs in & out.

Pros:

15 inch screen

Optical DVD slot

4GB RAM

750 GB Memory

2.66GHZ

Backlit keyboard

4 UBS slots

HDMI outport

Sleak shiek design

Different colored cases

Wi-Fi

Webcam

Cons:

Windows Vista (Super Whack)

A bit pricey in my opinion (That's Dell for you)

A bit on the heavy side
