Very nice laptop. Thin and light. I've heard the mouse pad can be a challenge but have had no problems with it whatsoever. Windows 8 is very different and takes some getting used to!

Great ultrabook for the money... sleek and beautiful. Not a fan of Windows 8, and VERY little instruction on how to use the ultrabook itself and the programs. Security is on a trial basis, so you have to download security very soon after purchase. Also Windows Office is on a trial, so another purchase if you want that. All in all, for the money, it's a good one to consider.

I received this this product in a record 5 days bearing in mind that I am in and APO Location in Afghanistan. This laptop functions as per specifications. The only drawback is the screen resolution which is low but its minor. Heads are turning when they see me with it. I have a Dell for my wife and they don't compare at all because The Vaio is just on top. I give it a thumbs up!

Great product! Very clean. Windows eight is weird at first but becomes easy. Handles like a macbook. Be sure to be gentle with your keys because they will stick.

I bought a Sony Vaio SVT14117cxs and absolutely hate it. I bought a Sony because I was tired of all the others dying after 1.5 to 2.5 years.I thought I would try a Sony. This thing sucks. The pointy corners bite into your for arms when really using it as a laptop. The battery is screw in so if your computer freezes you need to get a flat head screw driver and unsrcrew the battery. This has happened several times in less than 6 months. The network interface card is frequently becoming not connected to the lan. I have to disconnect and re-connect through the network window. None of my other computers at home have this issue. The new windows 8 operating system sucks. I have used computers since the mid 80's and this is by far the worst user interface yet released from windows,

ill be concise and simple.

Machine can run every pc game in 2011 smoothly on recommended settings. With regards to 2012, max out the ram (16gb) I believe and it should do 90% of all current games. This thing is a monster for the price.

AMD a8 is a 3rd generation processor. It is meant to compete with the intel i5; though many say its not as fast, a minute difference at best, realize one thing both are coupled with a videocard. AMD's is far superior; simply put amd is for gamers.

Style wise, the pictures aren't great on the website so it feels like a gamble. If you want a good idea, youtube it, you should get this single video where in it the guy has random dumb images appear as he unpacks his laptop, this is it. Too lazy to do that, then imagine the red gateway laptop with the amd a6, just black with a metallic gray keyboard.

The sound is pretty good, and the image quality is amazing, better than my lcd desktop monitor.

With regards to the battery, it says it maxes out at 5 hours, But that's probably on a dark screen playing solitare. For movie watching or surfing on powersaver it should be around 3.5-4 hours.

Material wise, its a solid laptop, its really solid plastic, with a metallic keyboard background to prevent things from intruding inside. I find it way better than the quality of my old dell.

Style wise I love it, it has a geometric pattern on the black portion and the lid closed looks like other nv's when closed.

If you still want more review on the laptop, look at the Acer Aspire V3-551-8469 15.6-Inch Laptop. It has 32 reviews, and is from what I find the exact same laptop, just acer branded, and 25$ more. Realize Acer bought Gateway in 2007, and gateway is a branch of it. I looked at the various pics and specs, even the touchpad is positioned like this model.

Honestly if you want a solid sturdy laptop, to play games, watch movies and surf the web this laptop is a wet dream for the price of %420.

Happy shopping :P

It was $400. Considering that price, I love this laptop!

It's had a few hiccups, but nothing that makes me angry about the purchase.

The speakers are garbage. I think the sound card is too even with decent headphones, it still sounds cruddy.

It loves to attract dust. Whatever.

The most notable thing is that (and I think this is a software issue) It keeps telling me that my folders are not usable. I have to go back to "users > select > documents/pictures/etc" to save and retrieve. That's annoying. Really annoying.

All in all... it's a decent purchase. It never has refused to follow a command or refused to run anything. Sometimes it thinks for a second too long, but again: AMD... Gateway... $400!

My company bought me this laptop. From day one I have issues with it. It was causing USB power surge errors. Well, to fix that they had to replace the motherboard. Then my wireless adapter card went bad and they had to replace that as well. This laptop is only about 6 months old. I would not recommend.

It is one of the worst laptop I ever seen. I had many problems with this laptop. I am not able to create folders, files and install any softwares.

The processor is making lot of noise and when we place the SD card , it is not coming outside..

I contacted customer care service many times. They replaced laptop one time and it didn't resolve the issue, They are asking me to send the laptop one more time.

My Dell Order No : 405580958

Here are cases I opened with Dell customer care and there is no resolution from 2 months.

Service Request #:882151832.

1) Cursor movement mismanagement Issue with drivers or any other

2) too much noise from processor

3) SD card slot is not working

4) Not able to create any folders/files that otpion is disabled.

It is waste of my time and money.

Best Deals for Dell Latitude E6530 Laptop Computer - 3rd gen Intel Core i5-3230M

Hello All. I rarely write reviews, which I feel bad about as I have benefited from many of the reviews here on Amazon.

After my recent experience with Dell, I feel compelled to warn buyers about a very serious design flaw, which I am told is common to all the current latitudes.

There is no bios display on the external monitor when my E6530 is plugged into the laptops VGA port or the docking station's dvi ports. You do not see anything on the external monitor until Windows starts up and loads the nvidia driver. What this means is that, should you set up a bios password for the startup or HDD, the screen to enter it during startup will not show up on the external monitor. The only way to see it is to disable optimus, and use the docking station's vga port or display port. Also, it will not show up if using HDMI either.

Again it will not show up on the external monitor if you are using the laptop vga port or the dvi ports of the docking station. If you have the laptop in the Dell docking station in a Dell monitor stand using the DVI ports you will never see the password screen. So you have to wait and guess when it is ready and then blindly enter the password. If it does not work, or if there is a windows start up problem you will have to pull the laptop off of the docking station and boot it independently to determine the issue. I have never seen a laptop ever have this flaw.

I pursued this through technical support which replaced my mother board twice and then landed me in the Customer Resolution Department. The tech support was very good. In the end I was told this was "working as intended". Since I was past my 30 days to return, there is nothing they could do for me. When I asked if I could get a discount on a monitor that has a display port, I was told they would call my account team. So I am relegated to using the old vga technology.

Consider how this limitation will affect you and your business. Security is critical these days. I will be looking into Lenovo or HP systems. I suggest you do the same before buying a latitude from Dell.

Honest reviews on Dell Latitude E6530 Laptop Computer - 3rd gen Intel Core i5-3230M

This is the first time I write a review. I had used quite a few laptops in the past and I just got this Latitude E6530 yesterday. It is a very powerful computer. I think it is not fair to give 1 star for a good product, and that is the reason I put my 2 cents in here.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Dell Latitude E6530 Laptop Computer - 3rd gen Intel Core i5-3230M

New Latitude e6530 looks great, BUT essentially is not usable. Dell decided to shift the keyboard to the very left and add the full numeric pad (for what?). As a result:

-you essentially having space of 12" laptop to put you hands on (that is none!)

-you can not keep it on your lap, as you type on the left part of the laptop and it falls down

-you mistype all the time since keyboard and your hands are on the left of the center of the screen

There are other ergonomic blunders: sharp metallic edge around laptop is unpleasantly cold and hurts your hands, touch pad is too close to the edge. After 3 days of working on this laptop my left hand became dysfunctional and hurts. Also surfaces and in particular fancy cover soils easily. I have older Dell Latitude and it seems that it was made by an entirely different company.

Don't buy this, unless all you intend to do is to calculate you gains/losses on the numeric pad.

We live out in the sticks, and when we finally got reliable 3G broadband and a wireless network set up, I was ready to no longer share the 2 year old computer with the rest of the family and get a laptop of my own. I use this laptop mainly for my home office: word processing, spreadsheets, internet, photo editing, and a few specific programs. I've found this unit to be a very reasonable tool for these functions.

This laptop is lightning fast, has plenty of memory, decent graphics/sound, and seems well constructed. I've read a couple of reviews that mention slow start ups, but I have not found this to be the case. I agree that Windows 8 has a pretty big learning curve for the first few days ("intuitive", my left foot!), but after some initial frustration I was able to navigate through the program screens rather easily. I find I still favor the "classic" laptop homescreen, but since Win 8 is app driven, that may be part of why you can have so many screens/tiles open and working with no speed lag. I also really like that the function shortcuts are printed on the keys in blue so I'm not constantly looking them up until I memorize them. I am not a fan of touchpads, so I like being able to quickly disable it with just a keystroke and turn on my wireless mouse instead. Bluetooth connected to all my other devices (wireless speaker, wireless headphones, my Droid X) without missing a beat. Again, noticed no loss of speed or data with multiple connections active.

Just a couple of things that bug me:

1. The CD drive is pretty flimsy. The first time I inserted a DVD to try out the graphics, the DVD did not stay in the tray.

When I pushed the tray into the laptop, the DVD floated up and lodged in the housing above the drive. Fortunately, I was

able to fish the DVD out using a piece of padding and some tweezers without damaging the laptop or the disk.

2. There is no caps lock/number lock indicator light. Sounds like a small thing...until you want to do a lot of word processing.

This kind of drives me crazy.

3. Not a big fan of the shiny piano case finish on the exterior and around the screen. Fingerprint city! I am always wiping

the thing off so I don't look like a slob.

4. There are no programs loaded onto the laptop "as is" that are not internet driven. I kind of enjoyed having a few games and

goodies on the old Windows formats that were available to play offline. Bye, bye solitaire.

Admittedly, the above list are small things that I like to grouse about, but they would not be enough alone to keep me from making this purchase again. I still think this is a good machine for the money.

Good for the price (680$ ish) although there are minor flaws with this design.

Quick note: I've maxed out the ram, installed an ssd and installed windows 7.

Even without the ram/ssd upgrade this computer is still quite fast.

Good stuff

+ Construction is fine, nothing's loose (flex below the keyboard though)

+ Screen is quite bright, should be view-able outdoors if sun isn't to bright

+ Optical drive (not flimsy at all)

+ Not too bulky

+ 3rd gen i7

+ Keyboard is comfortable and responsive

+ Exterior design is very sensible

+ Internal fan is usually very quiet

+ Good packaging, arrives in one piece.

Not so good stuff

Acer doesn't sell higher capacity batteries so you will have to order from some shady foreign retailer if you need one.

Bad speakers, you can compensate somewhat with third party software. I personally recommend breakaway audio enhancer instead of the dolby home theater.

Both the lid and plastic surrounding the touchpad are fingerprint magnets.

Keyboard and the edge below it will leave marks on the screen (happens on all laptops).

Touchpad placement could be better. It will impede left-handed typing unless temporarily disabled, or until you adjust.

Touchpad gestures are clumsy, 'unlocked' versions of the elantech touchpad driver don't actually exist. (More on this below)

No caps lock, scroll lock, or num lock indicator lights. (Arguably not a bad thing)

Keyboard has minor ghosting issues.

Other thoughts:

If you're going to install a fresh OS as I did, finding suitable touchpad drivers is next to impossible. Each driver version that you can hunt down on the internet removes some features and activates others for no obvious reason. Basically, no publicly available drivers enable all the hardware supported features at the same time. The only way to permanently activate all of the touchpad's features (2/3/4 finger gestures, regions, scroll settings, etc..) is to edit the driver's installation config file. Shame on elantech and acer for not having any sort of documentation or support for this. If the stock setup is fine or if the touchpad gestures are irrelevant then ignore this.

Also, the hm77 chipset supports up to 16gb of ram @ up to 1866mhz (or even higher, though not officially). You are *not* limited to 8gb as stated in the specifications.

Average cpu temp is 47-55c on a light workload, around 85c under stress.

Screen is glossy, not matte.

No technical manual included, but you can find one online if you search around.

Note that you have to hold f2 at boot to access the bios. If you have an SSD you may have to go in there and enable 'legacy bios' to get it to boot.

Also note that bios options are severely limited, the only thing you can adjust is boot order and system time. That is all.

I bought this laptop so that I could get work done around the house instead of being chained to my desktop. Best bang for buck laptop out there, I contemplating this and the ENVY 15 for weeks and I deciding to go for it. Awesome laptop, not going to find a i7 laptop with 750GB and features like this anywhere else. Excellent battery management and beats sound system is a bonus. The slick brushed steel gray front is very nice, as the black aswell. I wanted the slot loading cd drive like the ENVY but I couldnt justify the $500 difference in models. Also it seems that every laptop comes with a bunch of Crapware nowadays, but once you remove everything it's good. Don't hesitate, buy it.

The technical description is incorrect. I've been looking for a good week now at the best deals and the only thing this laptop doesn't have is the blueray dvd, which I can live without.

For the price, this is an amazing value. The case, while made primarilly of plastic, isn't cheesy at all. The lid is made of aluminum and looks very nice, like units costing much more. The keyboard layout with the 10 key fits the shell well, the bonus is that the keys are separated from each other so there's less chance of getting stuff down between the keys nice! There are 2 USB 3.0 ports and an HDMI port. The built in camera is adequate, the memory at 4GB is perfectly sized for this price range. I'm honestly surprised by how quick this AMD processor is, it's almost as fast as my Intel quadcore (non-hyperthreaded) 2.67 Ghz desktop. All nice features for a laptop in this price range. The primary reason for this purchase was to use it to browse the internet and email along with the occasional spreadsheet/word document. It performs beyond expectation in that catagory. Other benefits of this laptop are the bottom stays cool when running, and the battery life is great, about 5+ hours of use without recharging.

As an aside, it comes loaded with Windows 8, which admittedly takes a little getting used to. I can see after working with this OS that it would be beneficial to have a touch screen interface. It works okay without one after you get used to the quirks of Win8 and the "gestures" that you use to open the start screen, like swipe in to the touch pad from the computer shell on the right side, or switch applications by swiping in to the touch pad from the computer shell on the left side. The top down swipe motion in context sensitive. For non-touch screen computers I'd prefer it if Microsoft put the Win7 start menu back on the desktop interface. On touch screen based computers I'm sure I'd rather use the Win8 "start" interface.

At this point although early in the game I'm very happy with the results.

Best Deals for Samsung Series 3 NP365E5C-S02US 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

The laptop itself is light and sleek looking. The feel of it is good and solid and the keyboard is similar to a Mac in its spacing and design. They are separated by a bit of space that would make it easier to clean. The battery life is pretty long. I've been using it on a single charge for about 6.5 hrs now and still have 25% remaining. The screen is pretty nice and crisp. Colors are nice and vivid. I haven't watched HD videos yet but so far it seems good.

The laptop comes preinstalled with windows 8. I don't mind it but I believe that Microsoft really intended for windows 8 to be use with a touch screen devise. You can go back to windows 7 if you choose by going to the Samsung website and following their instructions. I just received mine today so I'm going to give W8 a try.

The bad thing I can say about this model is that the mouse pad is not sensitive. I have to tap pretty hard for it to double click or even respond. The mouse pad response time is relatively slow compared to how fast I'm moving my fingers to items I want to click on. The computer also does not have a light or any kind of signal that would tell you whether number lock or caps lock is on. I used to have a Toshiba Satellite and I would say that I prefer Toshiba's mouse pad over this one.

Overall I would say that its a good laptop but it does take some getting used to. If you want a sensitive mouse pad that highly responsive I would advise you not to get this model. Other than that it seems like a good device. I'll post another review in about a month so you can see how it holds up to a Biology major/English Minor college student usage.

One Month Later: I ended up returning the laptop in favor of purchasing an Acer Aspire V5 due to all the problems I was having with the laptop. Some programs that I needed to run for my homework were unable to work. The processor speed scored a 2.2 out of 9 and I was unable to speed it up. Others buyers say that their laptop was great so maybe my unit was just faulty. On the positive side, Samsung customer service is great even though they couldn't help me much whenever I spoke to them.

Honest reviews on Samsung Series 3 NP365E5C-S02US 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

This laptop is fast and quiet. The wifi is ready to work while the start screen appears (very fast)... W8-64bit, the USB3.0 ports are much faster than 2.0 and this is a plus ! ! I was continously working a little more than 4 hours and the battery said 10%. I doubt another laptop with this kind of performance ! ! ! The W8 is completely different to the previous versions, and it is fast ! ! Now, I like it.... So this a new paradigm. We must adapt to do the same things in a different way. The aluminium body is great ! !

I've had my Toshiba for several months, and I am well satisfied with it. I especially like the screen quality and resolution. The LED screen is bright, as it should be, but it has a comfortable and natural look that I like better than the new HP that I bought for my son. Although both the HP and the Toshiba have excellent 17.3 inch LED screens. The Toshiba has a nice switch to turn off the touch pad, but the HP has an abominable touch sensitive spot that drives one nuts trying to turn it off, and fighting it regularly. I paid a hundred dollars more for the Toshiba than the HP, but the Toshiba has Blue Ray, 2 gigs more RAM, and a Quad Core processor. But, there isn't much difference between the Toshiba and the HP; you can't tell much difference in the look and feel of each one. Both are reliable and good.

Bought this laptop at a Black Friday sale at Staples.

Exactly one day after the 1 year warranty expired, the battery wouldn't charge. I tried a universal AC adapter and that seemed to solve the problem. Temporally at least.

Gradually over time it became more and more finicky about the way the adapter had to be plugged in for the battery to charge. It has now gotten to point where I have to hold it in at a very specific angle in order for it to charge at all. If I let go, it stops charging. To top it off, the battery life is abysmal. One hour, tops. Hardly worth the effort.

Turns out it's a design flaw, and to get it fixed is so expensive I'm better off buying a new machine, which I'll be doing.

Just not a Toshiba brand laptop.

I've had this A665d-S5172 for about 2 months now. So far I am well pleased with the performance of this laptop. I purchased this when Amazon had it for $599. With all the bells and whistles a high end laptop would have for the fraction of the price. I love the blu-ray! you simply just can't go wrong!

Now the Graphics card is ok. If your playing games like Star Craft2 or some other high end graphics game it becomes to much for the graphics card which in turns becomes laggy and your fps lowers to the single digits. It helps that you don't have anything running in the background to improve the performace of your games. Also updating your driver will make it perform a little better. luckily you can change the graphics settings to make it so it is not laggy.

Other then the Graphics card issue I am very happy. Sound is great with harmon/kardon speakers and HD quality screen. The raised tile keyboard and the Fusion(tm) X2 finish is very stylish.

A665d-S5172 has many features that you will love. This is the best laptop for the price and after researching for days I kept coming back to this.

The keyboard works great. I have no idea what the reviewer that said it "requires great strength just to use the keyboard" is talking about. I find the keys as easy to press down as a standard desktop keyboard. Perhaps the system they received was defective.

I'm very satisfied with the system's performance and it functions perfectly for both school and for streaming video from Netflix.

I have had this machine about one month now. It ran right out of the box as I expected and was not bloated with too much software to delete. I do find the keys to be a bit too slick and not indented enough which slows my touch typing pace. Two USB ports on the left are fine but I find the third on the right a bit tricky to use as I use a mouse 99% of the time and hit the sensor in so doing. It is also vibration sensitive and I usually get a message that the head has been moved to a safe position whenever I nudge the desk. I guess this is for my benefit though: I need a better desk anyway. The speakers are quite good for a laptop and the screen is very clear and bright. Overall I have no regrets about this buy. Windows 7 is very much welcome too. I have been using computers since the RShack TRS 80 came out 100 years ago and am amazed at the progress and how the prices have come down.

Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite A665D-S5172 15.6-Inch Laptop - Black

All in All: (Funny, listening to "all in all," by Lifehouse right as I started typing this line. Haha.) Anyhow. This laptop has been a great machine for me. I've had it over a year, and have had no major issues whatsoever, and the battery is still ok after a year of being plugged in 98% of the time, which seems to be uncommon among most laptops for the battery to last. The screen is very bright and has good contrast. It never ceases to amaze me when I watch something in HD. I run a lot of games on here as well, and the processor/graphics card run very well and don't seem to give me any problems. Runs all the COD games at full graphics, all the driving games I have, and just about anything else. The software on the laptop is phenomenal for its ease of use, especially when adding displays and audio devices etc. I haven't ever used the webcam, but there is good software with it, and my friend has the exact same machine, and he says the camera is good. I know the mic is excellent, as I use it regularly. The keyboard has a nice feel to it, and none of the keys stick, despite me regularly spilling crap on them. This has been a durable machine too, and lived with a few moves and me taking it everywhere, dropping it off my bike, closing it in my trunk, (interesting story that one...,)etc. Can't really think of anything else... Oh the HDMI output is nice, and works great. As I mentioned earlier, all the hardware/software integration is excellent and very user friendly, so it's great for presentations etc. This laptop kicks my HP's butt in almost every category. It's all around an excellent laptop for the money, and I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't need an 8hr battery life.

Pros: Dual touch touch mouse is excellent. Great keyboard!!!! Great screen, great speakers for a laptop, however I use external half the time. The Audio Manager's simplicity swapping from headphones to line out, and in general audio seems very good. Fast. Only game that I've ever started getting low FPS at times, was BFBC2, and I'm talking like explosions going off all around destroying the environment, and it starts to slow. Otherwise, I run full graphics/sounds settings on everything. Comes with a lot of Toshiba software, which I normally would consider bloatware, however, a lot of it is actually very good, and quite useful, if appropriately managed. 4GB of RAM seems to be quite a bit, but since I rarely max out my processor, it's nice that toshiba made it very simple and very easy to upgrade to 6GB, there is two slots, but I'm unsure if both can be filled with 4 gig cards. However, since the ATI graphics card is allocated shared memory, 6GB of RAM would be a noticeable difference on applications that need it. I have found very very little that this computer doesn't handle though. Very stable laptop. I've had it for over a year, and the only time I've had an issue, was when a game didn't install properly, at the same time as a BIOS update, and toshiba recovery simply restored to the restore point I had created right before the reboot. Worked flawlessly.

Cons: Battery life isn't *great,* but the "eco utility," works pretty well, and integrates seamlessly, and still offers you control. I can get around 2, 2.5 hours on battery depending on if you're using WiFi and the drive etc. The audio manager's equalizer ranges seem a little conservative for headphones, but it never sounds bad, just keeps me from destroying more headphones I guess. (I'm somewhat of an audiophile.) Don't take this as a deal breaker by any means, the sound hardware and software on this laptop blows most out of the water, I'm just picky. The case *feels* kinda poorly made, particularly the trim around the screen, but it has been immensely durable regardless. Dropped it a few times actually... while probably a driver error, the volume soft keys above the keyboard have a tendency to freeze occasionally? but not really a problem, I tap the mute once and then go straight back to normal volume keys and it works fine again. Oh, and my machine doesn't have keyboard backlighting. :/ not sure if that's the same as the product above, because the Toshiba a660 series has so many submodels it seems impossible to find the right one, and this one seemed to match up perfectly to mine up to the A665D.... I know theres an "s????" that typically follows, so there may be some MINOR differences between mine and the one above, but other than the keyboard lighting, none that I have mentioned that would affect or Bias my review.

This laptop was the perfect upgrade for me. I had a Toshiba L305-S5921. I wanted a laptop that could play games. My old laptop couldn't play games that well unless I used game booster. This laptop can play the games I play the most (mainly Minecraft). I added 8 Gigs of RAM $50. I've had it for over a month, It's a pretty good laptop. I recommend this if you want to have something speedy. As for the bloatware, PC Decrapifier comes in handy for that. I usually use 7200 RPM hard drives but I can't really tell a difference with this hard drive.

PROS:

Excellent Battery life

Good Sound Quality

Keyboard is easy to type on

Not a bad price for a laptop

$50 bucks gets you twice the RAM

Good for moderate gaming

Excellent for school/entertainment

Cons:

Can't really think of any.

I purchased this laptop because of Toshiba's reputation on quality and reliability. When I received it, I was not disappointed. The laptop feels solid and sturdy and runs very smooth. There were not many Toshiba applications pre-installed on the system but did uninstall a few. If you are in the market for a solid, well configured and mid-budget laptop look no further than this system here. Do not get fooled into thinking you need the newest processor and the largest hard drive. The average user would not even notice a difference between the two.

I highly recommend this laptop!

This is a really nice looking laptop. The full size number-pad is awesome. The price is right, and you can't beat Toshiba's laptop quality or durability. Be forewarned, however, that despite what the Toshiba web-page shows, this laptop DOES NOT HAVE an HDMI port! Also: The LAN is only 10/100 no gigabit! While this isnt the end of the world, these features are included in many other laptops of similar price. For these reasons, I sent this laptop back and purchased an NV55C38u. While not as stylish, the NV55C38u has the missing HDMI port, Gigabit LAN, a larger hard drive, and a few extra USB ports all for the same price as the Toshiba.

I purchased my Satellite 15 months ago and have loved it until two weeks ago when the 2 USB ports on the right-hand side came loose and fell inside. I took the computer to a repair shop and was told this is a common issue with Toshiba laptops due to the weld Toshiba uses for the ports; they couldn't repair it but could send it in to Toshiba for repair -at a cost of $400! I contacted Toshiba and was told that since I was 5 months out of warranty, they could repair it, but it would cost me ... $400! If you go online and search for Toshiba USB Port problems, you will find a slew of people that have experienced the same issue with their Toshiba laptops, even current year models. Save your money and purchase a different brand of laptop.

I am not a technical wizard but i bought this laptop for a road trip for work and im using it to type on right now and love it. I have not had any problems with it and for what i paid for it i cannot complain about one thing. Mine definitely has the hdmi port and everything else advertised so i would recommend this to just about anybody. The only thing i can see is it does not have anything great for graphics but i am not too worried about that. Overall Great Deal

Amongst the Thinkpad lineup, which was originally from IBM back in the day , it definitely lives up to it name . Costing close to 800-900$ its definitely a little pricey. But what you have is a laptop which lives up to the promise of the thinkpad series. Its SOLID and is nicely built. One thing that I can definitely say about this is that it is fast. The keyboard layout is another thing I like about the laptop.

All I can say is that this machine is worth the money.

I bought this laptop earlier this year. The performance is amazing! I have been using this gamer since I received it and I don't want to use other laptops any more.

The laptop was well build and it looks solid. It comes with FHD display 1080p, latest i7 Quad Core processor, 12GB Memory, etc.. also backlit keyboard is my favorite. The 2GB dedicated graphics is another plus for gamers.

In short, you won't regret if you own this laptop

compared to my 3 yr old HP laptop, this is a great machine!!! The one quirk is that the touchpad is too far to the left of center so my palm keeps touching it and bringing the screen back to whatever I was previously doing in Windows 8. Finding my way back has been no problem, just inconvenient...

HP dv7-6c80us (17.3-Inch Screen) Laptop Reviews

HP dv7-6c80us Laptop

On black Friday, I purchased a HP dv7 from staples. The specs are very similar (My laptop has less ram and memory, other than that they are exactly the same).

I believe that this laptop is excellent. I have been using it for work daily for 6 months and am very happy with its maintenance of power and design. The 17..3 in. display is certainly not portable but excellent to view and thus capable of often watching movies on it. As far as aesthetics continue, the laptop features a brilliant chrome siding that truly captures the elegance of the laptop. I have taken the laptop on short journey's and found that its battery life is exactly as described. Even on high performance settings, the laptop can easily get 6 hours worth of battery life.

Beats audio fitted the laptop with top-of-the-line speakers that can compete with even bose or sony independent units. The computer is fast and has shown no major defects overtime. I run many programs on the computer and so far I have face no problems with anything. The graphics are excellent and the speed and battery life doesn't deteriorate quickly. It is a sturdy and good quality laptop.

Overall, I would recommend this laptop for all ages and all fields(except portability, but even there, it is sturdy and has a good battery life).

This machine has all the right stuff, widi, usb3.0 I7 2nd gen and a second bay for a solid state hard drive if you want to add it. Sadly it is only $849 at the HP web site or I would've bought it at my favorite site, Amazon!

Best Deals for HP dv7-6c80us (17.3-Inch Screen) Laptop

Bought this on sale as an upgrade to my old DV7 running Vista. My ultimate goals: 1) Desktop replacement and 2) Set up network storage backup drive using Windows 7 (more on this later). As with the earlier model, I always use an external, wireless keyboard and mouse -I never touch the laptop, unless loading media (USB pen drive or CD/DVD).

PROS: Screen (LCD vs. LED), sound (beats audio on the new model), and battery life (about 6-8 hours longer on the new model) were wayyyyyy better than the previous model. Awesome! i7 processor speed and Intel video are okay, but (anecdotally) my son's i3 processor seems faster when web surfing.

CONS: Since I almost never use the keyboard (this laptop just sits on my desk no travel or rough use of ANY kind) I was stunned when I noticed the "I" key had come off. If I actually had to use the KB on this machine, it would have to be replaced. Pathetic!!! Second, I had wanted to set up a network storage drive so everyone in the house could back up and store w/o using individual storage units (for file sharing and security). After upgrading to a new, top-of-the-line router from Cisco with a USB port and spending several hours scratching my head as to why I couldn't read/write from the storage drive that I could see on the network, I learned that Windows 7 Home version does NOT support network storage! You have to upgrade to Windows "something more expensive." What a rip-off! (Yes, I can totally hear all the Linux and MAC users laughing at me).

Summing up: My wife's cheap-o $299 Acer is more solidly built than this laptop -an embarrassing disappointment, since she constantly reminds me how much I spent on the HP!) However, the battery life and screen quality are very compelling from a buying standpoint; major improvements over anything I have ever used/seen in almost 40 years of computing!

ADVICE: Look for a more solidly built alternative. We recently bought a Samsung Series 3 (comparable features, lower price), which has proven to be a better unit than the DV7. If you can afford it, go for a solid state drive, too. The drive speed on my DV7 seems to be creating a serious speed limit issue on the DV7.

Honest reviews on HP dv7-6c80us (17.3-Inch Screen) Laptop

While I will spend some time on the disadvantages of this computer, I must say there aren't many and I love it and am glad I bought it.

This review, and also this computer, is really for power users. Most of you don't need a computer like this... you can get away with a perfectly good computer much cheaper.

Bought this at Fry's in Jan 2012. It's a quad-core i7-2670QM running at 2.2GHz with 8GB of RAM. Not sure of the exact speed of the RAM but Crucial's memory scanner pegs it at either PC3-10600 or PC3-12800. I run some pretty memory intensive apps, and while this computer can be upgraded to 16GB, I haven't felt the need. At the time of this review (10/13/2012) upgrading the memory would be $80 +$20 depending on how well you shop. It does have the Intel 3000 graphics built in with a minimum allocation of 64MB of RAM and a max of 1696MB (64MB Dedicated + Shared)

My WEI with my SSD installed (not included with this purchase) is 6.3. I don't quite know what it is without, I assume it was 5.9.

Everything on this computer worked fine out of the box, however, I'm not a fan of bloatware and HP has plenty of it. So I reinstalled Windows 7 with a copy of Win 7 I had on DVD and using the key from the bottom of the machine, it worked. BTW, most of you know this, but most computers now do not come with restore CDs, but I think HP has one for $20. I'm not too worried about getting one from them. Go to their support website before you buy if this is something you need.

One hardware modification I made was I got rid of the 5400 RPM WD 750GB drive and replaced it with a paltry 60GB 2.5 SSD from OCZ that I used in a previous computer. This makes Windows 7 screaming fast, but doesn't allow for a lot of room to install things... and here's where my first complaint comes in.

You have two drive bays for HD/SSD but good luck finding a second caddy/cable for it. And when you find one, it's going to have to be a long cable (about the width of your keyboard) to reach the connector near the first HD/SSD.

Intel Wireless Display is AWESOME. I bought a Netgear Wi-Di box and hooked it up to my TV. I can even play a show from Hulu or Netflix and get no audio or video lag.

I don't play games on it, so I can't tell you how it would do with World of Warcraft or anything like that. I presume it's neither great or bad, but that's a guess.

It's shiny and easy to get dirty. I found the fingerprint scanner to be useless, but that's because I did a fresh install of Windows. HP's support site is good for finding drivers though, but not that particular one.

Battery life... I get 6-8 hours EASY on this thing and I'll bet I can get 10 if I ever let it "die" as opposed to plugging it in at 10%. Makes going to Starbuck's much easier. :)

Wi-Fi seems to be good/strong/powerful. Haven't really tried the Bluetooth, so I can't comment on that. I also don't have any USB 3.0 specific devices yet, but the ports are plentiful... they aren't well spaces...so if you have a "fatter" USB drive (like my older SanDisk) that you need to plug in, you might have a conflict.

Sound is surprisingly good. Display at 1600 x 900 is crisp and clear. Getting the back cover off is a pain, until you realize the only tool you need is a flathead screwdriver or butter knife. Be gentle, though.

Blu-Ray player, but no Blu-Ray software. Be prepared to shell out for that. I haven't really tried it yet.

What else to say... I love it.
