I bought one of these laptops as refurbished from Lenovo outlet

because it was a very good deal: quad-core core i7, three USB 3.0

ports and a msata slot for a msata SSD at good price.

With hyperthreading and quad-core its CPU gives eight logical

processors, which is very convenient for demanding multitasking

purposes.

One problem I find with this laptop is that the laptop freezes

if the laptop went to sleep with a DVD disc in the DVD drive.

In the beginning, I thought this can be a serious bug and

considered returning it to the Lenovo outlet.

After several hours of try, it figured out that the freeze

was due to sleep with a DVD disc. I decided to keep it because

it was not a deal breaker. While the freeze issue could be

one of the reasons why it was returned and went for sale in the outlet,

I still think it is a good deal for me.

I bought this laptop with hopes it would suit my small business needs when I travel.

Let's talk about the pro's first.

Pro's:

Keyboard is nice, has the numberpad and fingerprint scanner which I liked

The computer is very fast, with the i7 3632QM processor it never felt like it was trying, everything responded very quickly

Con's:

There are lots of con's I don't know where to begin.

On first start-up fresh out of the box, it crashed. I restarted the computer and tried installing updates and then it crashed again, upon start-up.

I contacted my seller Laptop Authority' and they walked me through how to fix this issue using a special software update from Microsoft. Once updated with this 'special' update the computer crashed less, I guess that was a good thing?

Anyway, the computer was unreliable when it came to overall system stability. I never knew when it was going to crash next.

It would always freeze when it went to sleep so I had to put my sleep mode to 'never' and just pray I had battery life while working.

It had problems connecting to the internet all the time, some places I go it would connect right away, other places that had WiFi (work offices) everyone else had their connection but mine would stay unconnected 90% of the time as it dipped in and out of connectivity, this was by far the most frustrating thing for me to handle. I had 3 IT personnel look at this issue and they were all baffled.

It was not a hardware issue because it would connect for a few seconds at a time, if it was hardware it would not connect at all.

The mouse trackpad was a pain in the butt, it was overly sensitive and difficult to use because it was like an on/off switch.

The sound quality wasn't the best, since I am on a Lenovo hating rampage right now I will add that little tidbit of disappointment.

I spent hours trying to diagnose all these little problems and in the end I was fed up and just returned it.

Laptop Authority was responsive to me and sympathetic for my frustration and I was issued a full refund in a timely manner, although I did have to pay shipping back to the supplier.

Overall, this computer left a sour taste in my mouth and I don't plan on going with Lenovo in the future.

I bought this laptop for my daughter. I-7 quad core processor, extremely fast and great at multitasking. She should make it all the way through college with this laptop. The crispness of the screen is amazing. It comes pre loaded with windows 7 and includes disks to upgrade to windows 8, though personally I have no intention of going to 8. Great laptop great price:-) I love the quality products that Lenovo makes!

The laptop is great but windows 8 sucks!

WIndows 8 was probably designed to compete with tablets but on a laptop it cumbersome and always in the way. Everything is hard to locate especially if you're more than a casual user of a PC.

My next laptop will only be with windows 7 (I'm a programmer)

I must say that I have had this product for over a year!!! It works great! I am using it to type this.

I have had a few virus problems but that was MY FAULT for not having it properly secured.

The cord works great, and The battery life on this is pretty good too.

All the connections work and it is great for everyday usage.

The connection on the side where you plug the AC charger is BAD!! Have to wiggle the plug to get it to charge and be careful that you don't bump it or you have to wiggle the cord again. This should not be happening, the laptop is only about 6 months old. This laptop comes with no web-cam. I would not reccomend this laptop to anyone.

I'm a PC, but I'm also a Mac. A Macbook Air (MBA) to be exact. I'm very much into design so it just made sense. I first considered something like the Dell Adamo, Latitude Z or the HP ENVY13, But the Dells were heavily under-powered processor-wise. The HP was crazy powerful, but heftier than I would have liked. The Latitude's Euro design gave the MBA's design a run for it money, but it starts at over two grand and you'll easily knock on $2500 with the bells and whistles, Yikes! The HP ENVY 13 is very powerful and the only ultra-portable with the i7 processor. But for what I'll be using this for, the mobility and price is more important to me. The Adamo seemed to match the price and features of the Macbook Air best, but finding that the design, feature and price pretty much a draw (I personally thought the MBA had a very small edge on Design), I settled on the MBA because of the fact that I can run Windows 7 as well as Mac OS X(which I also use for different purposes)and the better build quality. I have to say, the unibody design really makes the thing feel as if it was carved from one piece of aluminum. There's minimal flex to speak of. Closed, it just feels so nice in your hands.

The 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor is a lot better than the 1.2 and 1.4 that are available in the Dells; more than enough for my usage. This might have been a bit meek had I not already had an Intel Core 2 Quad Desktop computer at home. This also made HP ENVY pointless.

The screen is more than adequate and much better than a netbook. Since it's so light, it really can go anywhere a netbook can. The nice Keyboard and trackpad was also refreshing.

The Solid State Drive is also nice, but after some usage, I really don't find them all that different from a standard HD, perhaps a bit faster, but not that noticeable. It certainly is cooler and less noisy. Some users have complained about it getting a bit warm, but I'm thinking they've got an HD instead of an SSD.

And now for the few CONs:

No optical drive since I won't be needing this too often it's not a big deal. I already have an external Blu-Ray Drive that I used to install everything. Once that was done, I can only image using it for an occasion Blu-Ray/DVD movie, but even this will be rare, unless I'm in a hotel room somewhere and bore out of my mind.

Connectivity:

No Ethernet, big deal! It's all about wireless!

Weird Mini Display port also not a big deal since I don't imaging connecting an external monitor to this much.

Only one USB This one, I admit, is pretty significant. It was a bit of hassle to swap USB devices a bit, but again, I only use multiple devices a handful of times (mainly a USB DJ Console Mixer and an external USB HD containing the music I want to mix). I got a little griffin USB "Splitter" which was nothing more than a very tiny USB Hub, but it did have some trouble getting enough power to the HD from this one USB port, so I did have to add a USB power cable to the mix (the audio was clipping heavily during mixing and transition). So keep that in mind if you're planning to daisy-chain three hard drives, a soda cooler and a reading light to the USB portjust don't. It works fine with the majority of other (low powered) USB devices.

RAM Here's the other big CON! While 2GB of RAM will probably be ok for now, but I would have loved having the option of adding more. I have 8GB on my desktop and I actually use it (photo and video editing, media center functions, terminal services, etc.)! While I'm not doing much of that (maybe a little Photoshoping) on this thing, all it takes is that killer application that requires at least 4GB of RAM that I can't use that will drive me nuts!

I have a first generation Macbook Pro from work and I always loved the design of it. This takes things to the next level. I'm primarily a Windows user, and this seems to work a bit more seamlessly with Windows than the Macbook Pro(although with the latest drivers and software updates for bootcamp from apple, it got better). It's kinda odd that I went with an Mac to run Windows, but it was a calculated choice. Had I been looking for a full-function laptop, it would have likely been an HP or Dell.

the apple air is great, even this older hard drive model (the new ones run flash memory virtual discs, this one has a standard hard disc)...but...it reached me with a bad ding in a corner of the case cover, still works ok, but won't close 100%, and, frankly, it looks like 6/10 more than 9/10...my 2 cts.

The computer came in the shape it was described with a small indentation on the bottom. Not very noticeable. Everything seems in working condition although the battery came in need of replacing but I suppose that's inevitable with an older laptop.

I love my MBA. I travel a lot and the weight was my primary concern. This machine is great it does everything I need it to do. Because the computing world is mostly in the cloud these days all you really need is a device to connect wireless or wire up with the included USB LAN adapter. I travel internationally so skype is my primary means of communication. The camera and microphone are great. The MBA is the Ipad with a camera. If you travel and don't want to lug a lot of weight get an MBA

I absolutely love the MacAir it's very light, has many more features than a PC, it's faster, everyday I find new things that I'm impressed with. My only complaint is the brief manual does not make going from a PC to a Mac very easy. I have used computers for many years but I am not a whiz with computers. I have not gone through the tutorials on line which I may have to do. I purchased a book that claimed it explained everything you needed to know about converting from a PC to a Mac very disappointed. I like to "read" from a manual/book how to do something specific. That's the only reason for a 4 Star.

I am typing this review on the laptop I gave my wife after getting this laptop for myself off of Lenovo's web site. I started out with a very good opinion and past experience with the older IBM ThinkPad laptops that I used at work. I should have known something was wrong when Lenovo told me it would take longer than a month to get the computer to me. When I called them to find out why, I did not get a real explanation (I do not remember, since it was over a year ago). I asked them if I found a computer as good in Best Buy before they shipped it, could I cancel my order. Low and behold, the computer was at my doorstep in a few days after that. Unfortunately, I got one with Vista and the updated sound drivers kept conflicting with the sound card. I took it to Geek Squad (the first time in my life) and they fixed it by back-rev'ing it to a version of the driver which would work. Finally, only four months after the manufacturer's warranty expired, it started freezing up 15 minutes to an hour after start up. I have eliminated every other possible cause except hardware. After talking with Lenovo support, my only options now are paying premium for an extended warranty or stare down paying another $200-300 just to get my computer to work for an undetermined period of time.

Please learn from my pain. Lenovo's are garbage to promote extended warranty scams. This Chinese-owned company does not stand behind its product for good reasons. Even if the other computers are made in China as well, at least make sure they are not owned by a Chinese company (this is the only thing I can figure out).

If you are serious about buying a laptop and you want quality for a good price, then this is the laptop for you. I find the Sony FXA47 to be an excellent laptop from the start. The Sony software included is handy. I bought the 48-Mo. warranty extension from Circuit City, so I don't feel any need to be concerned. Most importantly, the battery lasts the full three hours as promised in the manual. This is good for travel, even though it is heavy. I find that the included weight saver makes no sense if it only saves you 0.4 lbs. Performance on this laptop was a little slow when I first started using it, but after a few days of use it seems to speed up in performance. The DVD/CD-RW is a bit noisy and makes the laptop shake, so that might not be a convenience for business travelers on planes. Overall, a good laptop, w/a few glitches here and there. Definitely good for home/office users, but travelers might certainly want to look at something else less heavy and w/o a noisy cd player.

The Sony VAIO PCG-FXA47 offers a great combination of features, rubber-to-the-road performance and affordability for the home user who wants the freedom of a laptop. The DVD/CD-RW drive drew me in, and the fast processor and generous memory sold me. The 20GB hard drive should be plenty for almost everyone (documents/photos/Quicken), although a user editing digital movies might have to think twice. This laptop comes with 10/100 NIC, so DSL connectivity is a snap. The software shipped with mine was also very useful. Note that it comes with serial & parallel ports as well as 2 USB ports, so connection to your peripherals is also convenient. The price is very good considering all you get. All in all, a good deal!

The FXA47 is a sleek machine and when it works, it is wonderful.

I run a number of machines with XP and all perform better than this laptop, especially my Dell laptop.

The FXA47 hangs repeatedly when using standard programs such as the microsoft office family. Frequent crashing makes the computer nearly useless.

This is my second FXA47; the first was replaced due to these same problems to no avail. Beware!

I bought this laptop several weeks ago, right after it came out on the market, as a replacement for my old, obsolete Lenovo Thinkpad R61e (and as a backup for one of my desktop computers that, at nearly 7 years, is really showing its age). I was attracted by the balance of price and features, and so far I haven't regretted this purchase for a single moment (though I did get a wistful moment when I saw a similar HP model at a local computer shop that had a Blu-Ray drive :) )!

The g7-1365dx is one of HP's latest entrants in its highly successful Pavilion series of notebook/laptop PC's, with a slightly less capable twin in the g7-1355dx model which came out about a week after this model did (the only difference is that the 1355dx has a 500GB hard drive as opposed to the 1365dx's 640GB hard drive). With a quad-core AMD A603420M CPU, Radeon HD 6520G graphics, 640GB hard drive, 17.3" display (bigger across than some desktop LCD monitors!) and 4GB of DDR3 memory installed, we have here a suite of features that's comparable or superior to a great many more expensive laptops, so much so that one hesitates to call this machine a "budget" laptop for fear of unjustly labeling it a cheap or corner-cutting machine, neither of which it manifestly is.

I strongly recommend adding another 4GB of RAM to this computer, a cheap upgrade which I performed within an hour of purchase. This simple upgrade will significantly boost the power and speed of a machine that is already highly capable. The Windows 7 Home Premium system starts up and shuts down quite speedily. The graphics unit is rated as "A6" by AMD, the second-highest rating on its scale, which means that this computer is at least theoretically capable of playing Blu-Ray discs with the appropriate hardware. You will need to buy an external Blu-Ray drive, however, and probably a HDMI cable to connect the drive to the available HDMI port (the computer also has a traditional monitor port for connection to an external monitor). The hard drive has more capacity than the internal hard drives on any of my other computers, but depending on how much data you have to store, you may want to purchase a compact external HD to take along. The machine is very elegant in design, with an attractive black/silver-pewter color scheme, and has a satisfyingly hefty, solid feel. While it weighs 6+ pounds, when stored in its laptop bag along with the peripherals I've purchased for it, the whole package actually seems to weigh less than my old Thinkpad!

Some users feel that the built-in speakers are a bit puny, but it's my experience that speakers on notebook PC's tend to be comparatively undersized/underpowered affairs due to the constraints of the design, so I'm not really bothered by that (plus which, since I'm hearing-impaired, the sound system is less important to me anyway than the graphics quality). And speaking of which, the LCD monitor delivers beautiful, crisp, clear pictures. Fans of cutting-edge FPS games might need to step down the graphics level to play their favorite games on this machine (notebook PC's, again, tend to have less powerful graphics than desktop PC's so are usually not the best options for playing highly graphics-intensive games in any case) but other genres of games (e.g., strategy games like the Civilization series) should play without any issues. I got Cyberlink PowerDVD, my preferred movie-playing software, installed it on this machine, and it works like a charm very important since playing video away from home is one of the more frequent uses to which I intend to put this machine. (At the time of this writing, I haven't experimented yet with the built-in webcam.) Take note, also, that the hard drive is actually _larger_ than its marketed size of 640GB; the usable partition shows up as 678GB in all reporting software, along with two smaller recovery partitions, totaling some 700GB (which makes me wonder if HP actually installed a 750GB HD in this model remember that usable formatted sizes on a hard drive are always smaller than the size on the label but decided to market it as a smaller one).

No computer is ever perfect, though, and I do have a few quibbles with it. The battery life is advertised as being "up to 5 hours, 30 minutes", but that's marketing talk; as it comes from the factory, battery life is probably going to be closer to 2 hours and you'll need to do some work with the power scheme to stretch out the battery (and be sure to buy a spare battery once they become available for this model). There are only 3 USB ports, a common limitation on laptops, but if you have several USB devices to run, you'll need to buy a USB port hub. The media card reader only accepts SD and MMC cards, so I had to buy a USB card reader that accepts xD picture cards (the type that goes with my camera). The arrow keys are fairly small, which can lead to some awkwardness with certain games and applications that require lots of arrow-key manipulation; a USB keypad with full-sized arrow keys might be in order here.

All things considered, this is probably the best, most powerful laptop PC I've ever owned, and right now it's the single most powerful PC I do own! I strongly recommend this machine to anyone who's looking for a notebook that delivers a sound balance of features, power and price.

EDIT: (February 25, 2012): Grab this machine while you can. It's *already* (!!!) being superseded by the dv7-6c95dx, whose main differences seem to be that the latter system boasts Beats Audio, a redesigned keyboard and 4G capability. However, the dv7-6c95dx appears to cost up to $350 more, which makes it a very poor cost-to-value choice for the relatively minor improvements. Also, watch for another model called the g7-1355dx, which is identical in all respects to the 1365dx except that the 1355dx carries a 500GB hard drive as opposed to the 640GB hard drive of this model (this is very likely due to the ongoing hard drive shortage which may have restricted supplies of the 640GB hard drive used in the 1365dx).

UPDATE (March 21, 2012): The hard drive advertised as being 640GB in this laptop is actually 750GB! I found this out this morning when I installed the PC analyzer program HWInfo64 onto my own machine (I recommend it, by the way). That explains why the primary partition is listed as 676GB, nearly 40GB more than the stated/marketed capacity of the HD in advertising, and why there are two additional smaller partitions available for recovery and maintenance. This is a GOOD thing it means that you're getting even more of a bargain when you buy this machine, because you're going to get a hard drive that's bigger than anything found on anything except high-end laptops. I have no idea why HP chose to advertise this drive as being so much smaller than its actual size; perhaps they were concerned that people might see the actual formatted size of the drive and, not being aware that formatted capacities of hard drives are always smaller than the unformatted capacity, complain mistakenly about malfunctioning parts or even false advertising.

This computer is a pretty decent upgrade from my old 2.4 Dual-Core with Intel Extreme Graphics. My old Laptop was over four years old, and you could tell it had seen it's days.

So I decided to purchase the: HP Pavilion G7 1365DX.

How do I remember the name by heart? Naieve one you are, 'tis the fact that this computer is brand new off the lines, and has virtually no developer support for it as of yet. I've scoured thousands of Google pages looking for everything and anything about this laptop, but alas, to no avail.

I will give the Laptop a good year to mature, before I can port Mac OS and Linux onto the device.

-Power users will notice slow RAM access speeds, and will want to upgrade to faster/larger sized RAM.

-Normal/Slow HDD read/write speeds will cause slow down on games, and higher Graphically-based programs or Processor heavy programs will feel that wait time.

Best Deals for HP Pavilion g7-1365dx Laptop - AMD Quad-Core A6-3420M Accelerated

I bought this in early February. I spent $450 on it, which is a great bargain. I previously owned an HP dv5-1235dx for $679, and due to a few viruses, I got credit for a brand new laptop with warranty, and bought this one. This laptop is twice as good as that one, which was very strong for me and I loved it and still love it, and its $230 less. Part of that is that computers become more bargains as the years pass, and the same price gets you abetter laptop year after year.

The 640GB hard drive is more than enough for me. Currently I have 498 GB free, and roughly 120 used GB memory. When this computer was purchased, HP had put about 30GB on it of its own software and windows 7 and etc... What I do is download 20 movies, watch them, and erase. So I do not foresee myself every getting half of this Hard Drive used up. Even if your someone that stores lots of data, 640GD(roughly 600 able to use) is still plenty. The graphics card is said to be very good but not optimal. In my opinion from what I can tell, it is very strong and impressive. The visuals are as good and better than my last laptop, and barring HD TV blu-ray quality, this wil suffice for most users.

The 4 core processors allow very high multi-tasking. I have had about 6-8 programs in the foreground running, and probably 4 or 5 in the background running with VERY minimal slow-down effect.

The audio and speakers sound great and pretty powerful for tiny laptop speakers. The dvd-drive is great, the 3 USB ports are enough for me, the battery life tends to be about 3 to 3.5 hours on average battery power savings(50% screen brightness, etc..). The webcam is as good as any built-in webcam usually comes. It has 6months of internet security on it. The best buy warranty is $270 for 3 years of the full, "black tie", broken, damaged, water damage, vitrus, full warranty that covers literally anything at all.

The many HP programs include so many that I wont list them all, there are about 12 or more off the top of my head. Some are new that I have never seen and still exploring them. The 17.3 inch screen size is larger than my last 15.6 and the difference is visually much better. It technically is 1.7inches but it feels like 2" or more difference. I love it. I have downloaded 5 or 6 games that are racing, golf, etc and they all play fantastically. Graphics are great even when there is alot of action on-screen.

The mouse pad is my first of this kind. Instead of the smooth pad, its bumpy and rough in order to detect motion better. You can only tell this in person, so try it out when you are in-store. I love the design.

The hard drive acceleration allows the processer to speed up when necessary. When it's not using accelerated mode, the copmuter is fast enough. When it comes on, there are no issues that it can't handle, seemingly(of course the biggest games and movies and everything playing all at once would be tough, but for any standard use it is great. I have absolutely no regrets with this computer and I will enjoy having it for the full 3 years of the warranty. I love this computer so much. Im nota HUGE computer guy, but I love my computers if you know what I mean. I think this computer is A) reliable, B) powerful, C)smooth and sleek. If your budget is $500 or less, I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this. You can not be dissatisfied unless you expect $900 range while paying $500. Other than that, satisfied is what you wil be. Goodluck computer shoppers and I hope I madeyour decision easy..HP is a very reliable product and above all easily my favorite..

Honest reviews on HP Pavilion g7-1365dx Laptop - AMD Quad-Core A6-3420M Accelerated

I am very happy with this laptop. It runs quickly and smoothly. Downloading items from the internet sometimes takes a matter of seconds where with my last computer is took several minutes. The biggest problem I had was that this laptop is so big at 17.3" that I had a hard time finding a good computer bag that would fit it!

This is my first HP and let me tell You I am very impressed with this performance. The Graphics are great. The speed is phenomenal, and just overall a great purchase. It was out of this computer, Samsung, or Toshiba. All had similar specs, but what sold me on this computer was better options for the price. I would recommend this computer to anyone.

This laptop has some incredible specs for its price, and I am really impressed with its power and look. I bought it in the spring and I am kicking myself for not waiting to get it at these prices. This will last me for at least 2 years before I upgrage, and I usually upgrade every year because I do all my work on my computer. The style is very clean and sleek. The huge hard drive is fast and efficient. The i7 processor and powerful graphics card let me run more applications and keep more browser windows open than I ever need. Also my kids play high-end games on it and play it all the time. For $550 this one is a STEAL and IO recommend it to everyone who wants a high end laptop for mid-range prices! Even with Black Friday coming up.

I love this computer so much that I bought some bright big loud flower stickers and put them all over the cover to discourage my husband from "borrowing" it!

POSITIVES:

This one has a superfast processor my Picasso pics load up in seconds as opposed to minutes with my previous older laptop. The wireless internet is almost instantaneous. Youtube videos load and play zippity quick, and it plays most dvd's without having to add any special software.

The Windows 7 Home Premium pack is easy to work and I can open several windows of Internet Explorer simultaneously.

Matter of fact, I can pop back and forth between Amazon and Goodreads to copy and post some book reviews with practically no lag time. Netflix and Hulu play with no pauses.

There are plenty of USB ports, and on front, there's this little SUPER CONVENIENT SD card slot. I can pull the SD card from my camera, slide it in the SD slot just under the keyboard, and download all my pics and be done in under a minute!

It's lightweight and the battery lasts around 7 hours with constant usage.

NEGATIVES:

The big pretty girly flower stickers on my lid didn't stop my spouse. When HIS laptop battery ran out in a public place, he just stuffed his briefcase behind my screen to hide the flowers, then happily continued working on MY dell! (Good thing I had my Kindle.)

The description of this laptop is inaccurate on Amazon's website. The processor is a Pentium B960 instead of a Pentium P950, which worked out in my favor. However the other inaccuracy was the screen resolution. The description says the display will do 1600 x 900 however the machine that arrived has a maximum display of 1366 x 768. This is not surprising based on the price point for this item, however it was one of the determining factors in my purchase so I was disappointed to not have received what I expected. I checked with Amazon and they felt the description was incorrect on the website and they told me they would enter a request to have it updated, it has been two weeks and the description still remains the same.

I elected to keep the laptop because despite the inaccuracies I don't think I will be able to find a better laptop at this price. It works well for the tasks for which it is designed, light computing. Web browsing is quick and responsive but don't expect to play any games on it. I find the screen resolution to be limiting as I expected but using the zoom feature of Google Chrome it is workable.

Expect the normal OEM bloat with free trial and vendor specific applications that will annoy you until they are removed.

Overall this is not a bad laptop, even if it isn't really the machine described on the website.

Great laptop for programming. WUXGA resolution (1920x1200) is perfect for writing and viewing full screen apps. Expresscard slot is great as I've put in a serial card (USB to serial converters don't always work correctly).

Nice color, fast, sturdy, would recommend.

I received my laptop just a few days ago, and boy, does it change the way I work with laptops! Having a touchscreen makes it easier to use Windows 8 and Windows 8's UI makes you want to constantly reach out and touch the screen.

This is an early review, so all I'll say is that the laptop is very nicely built. It feels like it'll endure a lot and it has almost no flex when I lifted it with just one edge and the screen opened. Some laptops feel like they're going to "spill over" when you lift them like this, but not the Sony Vaio T13. There are a few sharp corners in the front corners, but they're not sharp enough to cause cuts or anything. I, as a matter of fact, like the corners. The aluminium build is very solid.

The sound is much better than I expected for a laptop of this size and weight! It's good enough to be close to the quality of sound on m 13" Macbook Pro. The MBP has slightly better range and maybe depth, but it does cost a whole lot more than this beauty here!

The only disappointment is the screen. Although a pretty decent screen for the cost, you do wonder how much of a difference an IPS panel or at least something better with slightly wider viewing angles would have made. This is the only sore point in my opinion.

Overall, I'd say I'm very happy with the purchase. The delivery handled by DataVision was prompt and quick. It was delivered well within time and in good condition!

I purchased the Sony SVT13126CXS in December 2012, along with a very similar Samsung NP540U3C-A01UB Windows 8 touchscreen ultrabook. I first applied all available software updates from the vendors and from Microsoft, and then connected them wirelessly to an elevated ASUS RT-AC66U router and installed the Intel Anti-Theft technology software (see my review at Amazon if interested). For the purposes of this review I will compare the Sony to the Samsung, since these machines are quite different from the Windows 7 PCs that I have in the same environment.

Regarding the utility of Windows 8 and touchscreens, using this system feels like a cross between using a Windows computer and a smartphone. Using the touchscreen lets you do some fun things with multi-touch gestures, but the price to be paid is that content creators (i.e. users of Desktop legacy software) have to do a few extra keystrokes or touches to start their tasks. Since all new Windows laptops ship with Windows 8, I thought it best to pay a little extra and get a touchscreen ultrabook. Certainly the light weight and 5 hour battery life are a big improvement over my old Dell E6510 laptop. However the Dell achieves twice the wireless N throughput (90 Mbit/second at 45 foot range through 4 walls) of either the Sony or the Samsung.

The Sony is about 0.3 inches wider and longer than the Samsung, and looks bigger, due to its angular outer edges. It has been criticized for its noisy fan (lack of a power management system cooling policy setting), although I haven't found that to be a problem. Both systems fit in a Case Logic 13 inch ultrabook case. The Sony's Windows 8 Experience Index Score (top to bottom) is 6.9/7.3/4.8/6.3/5.9. Compared to the Samsung, the strong points of the Sony are: (1) Wireless connection never drops unexpectedly, (2) Sony software and touchpad driver never stops working or glitches, and do not keep prompting you to install software you may not want or need, (3) The Windows 8 Experience Index memory score is 7.3, vs. 5.9 on the Samsung, and the same-priced Sony ships with 6GB instead of 4GB RAM on the Samsung, and (4) The Sony AC power connector is large and should not be accidentally damaged.

It looks like the Samsung may have 1 hour longer battery life than the Sony, because its memory runs slower and its fan runs less often. The Samsung also has more comprehensive advanced processor power management settings than the Sony does (e.g. a System cooling policy).

The bottom line for me is that the Sony has very good performance, software, reliability, and polished features so I recommend it at this price point.

Not sure why my previous review is gone, but I want to say I am very happy with my purchase!

It is extremely light (~3.5 lbs) and fast.

Battery lasts ~4.5 hours under normal use (internet, etc.)

The multi-touch touchpad is really pragmatic and comfortable once you get used to it.

You may want to buy a keyboard cover from Sony for about $20. It's a bit expensive but worth it.

Screen is bright but not perfect (compared to retina screens in some other computers and devices).. resolution is a bit lacking.

Sony's rapid wake function lets computer go to sleep without draining battery and wakes it up within 4 seconds! it's awesome.

Speakers are not superb but excellent for a small device!

I used to own a 15.6 laptop so I was hesitant about buying a 13.3 inch laptop, but I've had no problem!

Great computer for portability, and extremely stylish.

Considering it's Sony, I am sure I can live with this baby for years.

Honest reviews on Sony VAIO T Series SVT13126CXS 13.3-Inch Touch Ultrabook (Silver)

Certainly the main attraction of this model is getting the touchscreen, a critical feature for taking advantage of Windows 8, and making this computer's price attractive. The touchscreen worked fine out of the box, and for about 20 hours of use after that, but then starting working irregularly, and often not at all. I can't use most of the touch features of Windows 8 now. Even worse, the touchpad also stopped working, apparently for different reasons. I've spent hours on the phone with Sony Vaio support, and while they were eventually able to solve the touchpad problem (for now, at least, though occasionally it still freezes), they are clueless about the touchscreen, and have wasted a lot of my time having me restoring and reloading software and drivers, all to no avail. They've finally told me I should send the machine to them. My last experience with a Vaio suggests that what will happen is that they will wipe out the disk, reload the original software, and send the machine back to me, so it can fail again. I think this is the machine that will finally drag me into the Mac world.

Windows 8 with a (working) touchscreen on an ultrabook is a pretty good combination, by the way. My main complaint would be that the new tablet-like apps designed to take advantage of the touchscreen seem more geared to a phone or small tablet--they tend to be somewhat stripped down in terms of functionality, presumably to be able to limit the screen to a few easy-to-press buttons, which is useful on a small screen but an unnecessary trade-off on a 13-inch notebook.

Generally, it's not a bad laptop, at least at this price. However, I think we could expect more than it is as there are many good ultrabooks in the market nowadays. My principal dissatisfactions towards to this laptop are: 1. The screen fades in colors, not SONY style at all; 2. the cooling fan generates huge noise once the laptop is turned on. You can hear it all the time as the computer is running, it's even worse when the tasks are heavy. Cannot imagine this is from SONY.
