this is a good looking and feeling unit. I especially like the fact that the key labelling is sharp, clear and large. The unit runs very cool and quietly. It has been performing well so far. The graphics are sharp and clear.

The big issue I had was the work required to get it under control. I like to manually set up a new machine including Internet setup so I don't get a bunch or redirects when on line. This is the first pc I have experienced where you have to go online thru their portal, the unit will not allow manual Internet setup. There were plenty of startup apps to get under control as well.

Once all that is done you have a good performing pc which also looks quite nice in my opinion. It is noticeably faster than my previous unit.

Recommended if you are willing to spend some extra time on setup or you don't care about that kind of thing. A good value.

The X1 Carbon is very light, charges fast, and has the perfect screen resolution for it's size (1600x900). The model I purchased has an i7 / 8GB / 180GB SSD, so it is super fast. The keyboard is so much easier to use than the Macbook Pro and Air models, and you really start to enjoy using the touchpoint once you get used to it. It also is fully Linux compatible, so you can run Ubuntu out of the box.

These model units (T732) are getting harder to locate and I was happy to receive them. The vendor shipped promptly and computers arrived in excellent shape.

We have used Lifebooks for several years and I have been very pleased with the cost versus ability. Obviously, if you go 64-bit Win 7 Pro you need at least 4GB of RAM, but then you probably knew that already.

Fujitsu's warranty service has been top-notch and I strongly recommend their extended warranty. Not because I am a shill for the company but because our client base is mostly students and they are rough on the machines. I'll have broken screens and cracked corners and the computers still run fairly well. The service department has always been kind and quick on their repairs.

Be aware that this model comes in two stylus flavors (active digitizer 0 pen only input and the dual-digitizer that allows touch or stylus input). Some folks mistake the specs when ordering, so choose wisely (if it matters to you).

A fine transaction and I am very pleased!

Reviews of HP Pavilion DM3-1130US 13.3-Inch Laptop (Silver)

HP Pavilion DM3-1130US 13.3-Inch Laptop
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

The HP Pavilion dm3 1130us (AMD CPU & ATI GPU model) is a good compromise between the portability of a netbook and the functionality of a full sized laptop. Technically in the "Ultra-portable/Thin & Light" category, I would say it is a netbook on steroids. I was looking for a portable computing solution but didn't want a small keyboard or a hard-to-read/small screen. It had to have a small form factor, yet have a more powerful processor and graphics than traditional netbooks. I use it mainly for office work, web surfing, video streaming, music listening and light gaming.

Most of the specs are readily available on Amazon, but you can get a more in-depth overview by going to HP's site and looking up the dm3z line in their Ultra-Portable category. The 1130 is essentially a later production run of the 1030, which is still available on Amazon as of this writing.

Back to what I was looking for;

Basically, I wanted a MacBook but only had about five hundred bucks to spend. I'm a Mac user normally but could not see paying so much for a laptop. I searched high & low and weighed several other options. In this laptop segment and at this price point, it is all about compromise and what you want as an end user. In this end, the 1130us was the best fit for me. I was able to find it on sale for under five hundred on the OfficeMax site and then found a dollar rebate. I used that saving to buy a , and so far that is working perfectly too. I was a little leery about getting an HP since they don't have the best reliability reputation, but I would expect more problem reports from a company that sells so many computers. My mother-in-law has a 3 year old Pavilion that still runs like new.

What I like about it:

1. It's fast, faster than I expected. Initial set-up was a snap. The 1.6GHz AMD Athon Neo X2 dual-core processor and ATI Mobility Radeon HD3200 graphics see to that. Perhaps not the best combo for intense Photoshop sessions or cutting edge 3D gaming, but I have several apps and browser windows open at once with no system slowdowns. Online video from various sources streams just fine and I've played a number of games (including Star Wars Battlefront) with no issues. The AMD cpu and ATI gpu combo uses more wattage than the Intel option, but I think you would sacrifice computing power for battery life if you went the Pentium or Core Duo route.

1b. 7200 RPM 320GB Hard Drive. Did I say it was fast? And spacious.

2. The screen. It is glossy, but not as bad as some and it is nice and bright. 13.3" w/ a 1366x768 widescreen resolution means things are a bit smaller than on a standard desktop monitor, but everything is nice and crisp and the colors are good. It seems much bigger. HD content looks great on it and the viewing angle isn't bad. I had a stuck pixel, but it went away. The lid opens about 135 degrees back so you can easily work with it on your lap. It has a nice firm hinge so there are no worries of it falling one way or the other.

3. Wi-Fi draft N. I've only had fast and excellent connectivity so far. Having bluetooth is nice too, but I've yet to use it.

4. Windows 7, not a cobbled Started Edition. Coming from OSX, I have to say I'm growing more and more impressed with the latest Windows OS. It seems to have more intricacies than with OSX, but I'm getting used to it and have to say the user interface is top notch. Before this, I've used XP and am so glad that Microsoft has finally refined their product. Connect a device for the first time and either the drivers are already there or they download automatically. Nice. Lots of eye candy too.

5. Touch pad. Some reviewers pan it, but I find it works well for me after a slight learning curve. Sure, it is the only fingerprint magnet on an otherwise lovely case, but I like the feel of the shiny chrome finish and find the multi-finger gestures useful. The "mouse-buttons" could be a little easier to depress, but that is a small quibble, just tap the pad. It is also very customizable to your specific needs. The 1030us touch pad had some wake-from-sleep issues, but that was fixed in the latest BIOS. I also use a but have no problems adjusting to the touch pad if I leave mouse at the office.

6. 4 USB, 5-in1 card reader, 1 VGA, and 1 HDMI port. Connectivity ahoy!

7. Full sized keyboard. It took a little adjustment, but I like the quiet, island style keys. When in the proper position, I can type just as fast as with my desktop's keyboard. I measured it, and it is slightly LARGER than my G5's primary keyboard area!

8. The case. This is one sturdy feeling case with little or no flex that I can detect. You can hold it by a corner without fear. I love that it isn't a finger print magnet like so many others out there. The brushed aluminum finish is very attractive and gives it a high-end appearance.

9. It came with 4GB DDR2 ram, expandable to 8GB. With the 64bit OS, I could do this, but see no need to at the present time.

10. Cool. Even after all day use the air blowing out of the rear side exhaust vent is only slightly warm. The front wrist rests can get a little warm, but never uncomfortable (at least to me).

11. Quiet. If a completely silent room you can hear the faint breath of the fan, but otherwise it and the spinning hard drive are unnoticeable.

12. Well packaged. There are no disks included, but the manual and documentation are pretty clear.

13. Price. Find this on sale and you've got yourself one heck of a deal!

What's not so great about it:

1. It is about 13" wide and weights about nearly 5 pounds with the battery inserted. For me that's no big deal but if you plan to lug your laptop around a lot, you may want to look at something smaller and lighter. It is only one inch thick so it slides easily into most bags.

2. Speakers. You know going in that they won't be that great, but I still couldn't help being a little disappointed. However, I tweaked the sound settings and get decent output now, though not very loud. It does the job though. Use earphones. I connected it to my speakers with a subwoofer and Pandora radio sounds terrific!

3. Battery life. I get about 4 hours of constant general use life out of it. Another reviewer stated he was able to play the entire Fellowship of the Ring movie before it went into hibernation, but I have not tested that. The good news is that 4 hours is still decent, and the power cord isn't too cumbersome. If you need an all-day, cord-free laptop/netbook, look elsewhere.

4. Some bloatware. Being new to Windows I researched what to do when you first get a computer. One of the most common recommendations is to remove the manufacturer installed software. I got rid of the MS Office trial and Norton. I'll still playing around with the suite of HP software. I may keep some, but will probably ditch a good bit of it. However, some users may like the included software. Even with it, the 1130us is a speedy customer.

5. No optical drive, but I knew that and won't need one every day. The Samsung will also be useful for my other computers.

6. No OS restore disk. I know, there is no optical drive and there is a recovery partition, but it still would have been nice.

7. Possible fit and finish issues. I just noticed a very slight gap along the top right front edge where the wrist wrest meets the side paneling. Pressing down on it does reveal a little flex. Not enough to return it, but it is worth keeping an eye on and could be cause for concern. It is too early to tell. (see my product photos)

I have not used the Quickweb feature, but Windows 7 boots up (after some re-configuration) in less than a minute so I'm not sure I'd need it. I've also not yet used the HDMI out port or webcam. I plan to test both soon and have heard that the webcam is good in low light. I've only been using the 1130us for a little over a week so I can't speak to its long-term reliability, but so far so good. I'll post an update if I have anything new to add.

So, is the dm3 1130us the right model for you? If you are not a 3D gamer and want a nice looking, sturdy, portable laptop without most of the limitations of a netbook, then the answer could be "yes". Of course, technology is changing rapidly and in a few months the next latest and greatest will be out. But if you need something now, and want a lot of oomph at a great value, then the dm3 1130us could be your best bet. It exceeds my expectations at a price point other laptops couldn't match, so that is why I'm giving it 5 (4 1/2 actually) stars.

UPDATE-March 30, 2011: It is over a year later and I'm still loving this little machine. No major issues. Yes, the left palm rest can get a bit warm, but I've never had it become uncomfortably so. It still does everything I need it to with little fuss.

UPDATE-June 09, 2011: The DM3-1130US is still going strong. My wife has taken over this computer when it's at home. During they day it gets put through it's paces playing Pandora with other web-related activities. Word processing too. At night she often likes to bring it to bed to watch videos on YouTube and catch up on email. She sometimes is frustrated with the trackpad, but that's about it.

No more MacBook Pro envy for me!!!I love computers and have owned many laptops over the years, everything from Mac PowerBooks to Dell Mini's. I thought for a long time about buying a new MacBook Pro. I loved the size (13 inch model)and the brushed silver look and many of the apps. What I DID not like was the price and the fact that I could not use Office OneNote(as a teacher and a mother, this is one app I truly cannot live without!!) on the Mac without having to purchase Windows 7 and Parallels. Did some playing around in computer stores with both the Mac and other computers and fell upon this HP dm3. Loved it from the first touch. It is solidly built, beautiful to look at, light-weight, and perhaps most important to me, FAST!! I do not play computer games but do a lot of web surfing, watch streaming video, and use lots of photo and movie apps. This little guy is just as fast as my big and much more expensive desktop replacement, and simply blows my Dell Mini right out of the water. Not even in the same league!

If I could give this more stars, I would...this is a fast, sleek 13-inch (just the right size) computer that is every bit as pretty as the MacBook Pro. I am not a big fan of touchpads; I always use a mouse. That being said, I actually love this one!

I would be remiss not to mention that the service at Amazon is absolutely second-to-none. I had originally ordered an Asus 13 inch but changed my mind after reading some comments about the wireless abilities (plus, it kind of freaked me out buying someting that I had never actually touched.)Having played with this one at the store was really the deal-maker for me. They have the finest customer service on this planet, and I would never buy my computers from anywhere else. Also worth mentioning...bought the SquareTrade 3-year warranty that includes spills, etc. I had an old MacBook(6 years old)that I had a SquareTrade warranty on. It died one day, I mailed it in, and had my complete purchase price in my bank account within a week. Very much worth the money! P.S. This is the only review I have ever written although I have been a loyal Amazon fan for years. Guess that shows how much I really do love this machine!!

Best Deals for HP Pavilion DM3-1130US 13.3-Inch Laptop (Silver)

I got the DM3-1130 (the AMD processor) in early February, after an extensive search to replace my HP Pavilion dv5000. I had considered ASUS and Macbooks, in particular, as I wanted something in the 13-inch range, lightweight and with a good track record.

This model has more memory than the slightly more expensive ASUS model of this size, and Macbooks, while perennially getting great reviews, cost hundreds more. I use this for personal use and for some business use (Internet, writing, some photo editing), so a Macbook wasn't worth it. Sorry, Justin Long.

After my brief time with my new HP, here are the pros and cons, for anyone considering it:

Pros:

1) It truly is a lightweight, portable model

2) The style is hard to beat, if you like the metal look

3) The keyboard style is different than what I'm used to, but I've found the chiclet style very use to type with

4) HP Quickweb is a useful, practical feature to get you on the Internet/listening to music or looking at photos without accessing Windows 7

5) Windows 7 itself rivals Apple's platform in the litany of user-friendly features and style. I was very impressed.

6) The battery life is about what was advertisedprobably in the 4 hour range, if you're using wireless and looking at photos, etc. People who are only getting two hours probably are watching a movie and/or didn't let the battery fully drain the first time before they charged it.

7) The four USB ports, the SD slot and the exhaust fan on the side are all nice features.

8) I haven't had any problems with the mousepadpeople who have commented negatively on it, I would guess, want the world's perfect mousepad. It's functional. And sure, it gets fingerprints on it, but that's because you use your fingers to use it. What do you expect? And are you trying to impress people with your fingerprint-less mousepad?

9) I was installing multiple programs and browsing the Internet all at once and experienced no interruptions or slow down. At least in that test, the RAM and processor are keeping up. I went with the AMD instead of Intel partly for cost (much cheaper), but also because I was told by some computer experts AMD might work a little faster. No regrets yet.

Cons:

1) The left palm area gets hotter than you'd like.

2) I had a problem after registering/setting up my laptop. After installing a few programs I needed to restart. When I got to the log-on screen and entered the password I had selected during startup when I created an account, Windows kept telling me I was incorrect, although I was sure (and the password hint verified) that I was right. HP tech service said that sometimes happens when an administrator password is selected during start-up, and had me restore my system. It worked (I just didn't enter a password during setting up screen), although I had to reinstall stuff I had already installed before, as you'd expect. Lost some time, but not a huge deal. You'd think it could have been avoided with a simple "Set up a user password later", as I'm sure I'm not the only person that's happened to. That's more of Windows' fault than HP's. At the least, HP tech service was helpful.

3) No optical drive, which you need to make a recovery disk at some point. I'll have to borrow one. Since most software is downloaded these days, I won't otherwise need it. It's something you have to give up if you want an ultraportable model, in most cases.

4) HP offers a $50 rebate for this model, but it's not valid if you buy it off of Amazon. I knew that ahead of timestill went with Amazon because it was cheaper than factory direct, but that's a bummer.

Honest reviews on HP Pavilion DM3-1130US 13.3-Inch Laptop (Silver)

Pros:

I was looking at netbooks, but found them too small. This is a perfect size for the coffee table, and looks very slick with the brushed aluminum. I has a really nice screen, and a great keyboard, with the play/pause/volume buttons you need for music playback on the top row. The HDMI out and 4 USB ports are a plus too.

Cons:

I haven't had any problems with with plastic trim coming apart, as one reviewer did. The only design flaw that I see is the rubber pieces that prevent the screen bezel from touching the keyboard bezel when the lid is closed are a little too small or shallow, so the screen bezel does get some very slight scratches. I think this can be minimized by not putting anything too heavy on top of the computer when closed, and not squeezing it too tight when carrying it. But that's a minor problem. Also, the computer does get a little warm (esp. under the left palm, probably where the CPU is), perhaps too warm for extended use on one's lap, but it's super quiet -a trade-off I can live with.

Bottom Line:

This is a great little laptop for the money. I highly recommend it.

I recieved this laptop yesterday (2/5/10)and here is my review: When I removed the laptop from the box and held it, I was impressed with the laptop's construction. The keyboard is big enough for my hands, and the 13.3 inch screen is large enough for me to see. The laptop is not too heavy--but it is not too light. Unlike a netbook, this laptop has 320gb of hardrive and 4gb of rams, expandable to 8gb (that's very powerful for this little machine!). It has four usb ports and a hdmi port for hooking it up to a big screen TV. It also has a webcam camera and an internal microphone. The laptop is loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium for stability and a lot of HP software junk. The laptop has Bluetooth technology to communicate with other Bluetooth devices. The laptop doesn't have a fixed optical drive, which is cool since most software can be downloaded from the Internet. In closing, if you need a smaller laptop for just basic computing, a netbook will suffice. However, I would STRONGLY recommend you to spend more money on a laptop like the HP Pavilion DM3-1130US model, because sooner or later you will need a smaller laptop like this one for heavy duty computing.

I bought this around 6 months ago. I have to say so far I have been very happy with it. I knew it was not the biggest and baddest laptop out there however, it fit into my price range and had the features I needed (everything a netbook is missing!)

I have been very happy with the Windows7 operating system on this guy. It runs smoothly and quickly and I have yet to run into any issues (even minor ones...)

The screen is beautiful crisp and clear much better than my old Dell Laptop. The size is awesome!

I also appreciate the (almost) full keyboard. Its one drawback is the home, page up, page down and end keys being on the very far right side. It took me awhile to get used to hitting enter instead of page down button but now that I have gotten used to it it isn't so bad.

One of my fears when I bought this laptop was running to much on this little guy at once. It is a 3GB Notebook which isn't all that great in the world of laptops but I have to say I have been very surprised by it. I can often run multiple applications without running into any slowing or issues.

My one MAJOR issue with this laptop is the sound system. I came to this Toshiba laptop from a Dell that I had had for almost 8 years! The sound on the Dell was amazing and still is. However, the speakers on this little guy are tinny and can hardly be heard when turned all the way up. I use this laptop often for streaming TV shows online and watching movies and find that I have to plug in a separate set of speakers just to be able to hear.

With that said that issue isn't enough for me to not love this computer. I have been extremely happy with it.

Obviously this laptop isn't for anybody who is a hardcore gamer or some one who requires major amounts of RAM but if you use your computer for normal use (i.e. chilling on Facebook, listening to music on iTunes, watching the occasional movie) then this is a good buy. Just be aware that a set of speakers might be needed as well.

I just bought one of these having owned older Toshiba and Dell laptops. My other Toshiba was quite reliable and functional; it lasted about four years trouble free except that I had to replace the battery once.

This new one has been less than impressive. It is a reasonably priced machine but some of the design features are simply poor.

The speakers may as well be absent; their maximum volume is like a whisper far off in the distance. You have to use audio accessories (headphones, external speakers, etc) otherwise you will not hear anything.

The USB ports are placed on either side near the front of the laptop which means they are right in the way. I prefer when they are at the back of the machine, or if they have to be on the sides at least near the rear.

This machine does not have an internal microphone.

There is too much unnecessary "advertising" and junk on the machine. Prepare to have that removed at some cost.

Overall I am ok with the purchase so far, but not as happy as I'd hoped to be. Seems newer is not always better.

Best Deals for Toshiba Satellite L455-S5000 Notebook Computer - Intel Celeron 900

I got this laptop after comparing its price with quite a few others on amazon and a good deal of store websites to see which had the best price, but this one was a leading canidate also for the price you get an hd screen, dvd burner and a computer that is fast. I have been using a Tower for years since my last laptop met its unfortunate end and now it is just going to sit and gather dust because this laptop far exceeds its performance. This laptop is not only great for games but also watching movies (I heard some had noise issues I am still waiting for them) working on picutre albums and almost anything you could want to do on here. Also I do have netflix which this computer is a perfect fit with when streaming movies.

Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite L455-S5000 Notebook Computer - Intel Celeron 900

I actually recived this laptop free from a friend. He said the DC jack was broken and not chargeable anymore. So he gave it to me. I took it in, and it turned out the DC jack just broke from the bracketing and was inside the device when my friend dropped it off of his bed. It was a quick and easy fix. Now that i have it running great I can review it. It may only have an Intel Celeron CPU, but it runs very smoothly. Windows 7 Home was on this, and it ran fine, but i decided to install Ubuntu 10.10 on this to get even more performance. And i can say, i love Linux Ubuntu on here, it runs super fast, i can have all the nice desktop effects running, several applications, and several browser tabs open in Google Chrome and it doesnt slow down. Its also nice that is has 3GB of RAM aswell. It may only have a Hard drive just over 200GB, but thats fine, since my desktop has a 2TB hard drive, i wont be using this laptop to store all my music.. The display is great, no problems, the keyboard its great, the wifi works perfect, i dont have any complaints. Its not to heavy, and its not to light, and its a perfect size. The battery life is, eh, but its expected with about a year old laptop, and that is being a laptop. I would recomend this laptop to anyone wanting to get a great cheap laptop. I would personally recommend having Ubuntu Linux on it instead of Windows, but thats my opinion.

Bought this laptop at best buy, in less than a month (27days) the hard drive crashed. Took it back to best buy they replaced the hard drive (since it was still under manufacturer warranty) two weeks later the new hard drive crashes. Took back to best buy and they replaced the hard drive again but this time they replaced the motherboard as well. Have been waiting over three weeks for Toshiba to send the start up disk (cost $25) since it does not come with one you have to make one. Customer service at Toshiba is horrible, "it's not our products fault, what did you guys do?," are u serious,"that's why you need anti-virus"(we do have anti-virus) and "you should have made the disk when you first purchased your laptop." Well maybe you should not make defective products.

I bought this 4 months ago and have only been able to use it for about a month and a half. Never again will I purchase a Toshiba product no matter how great a deal it is.

Powerful laptop. I bought mine custom with my name engraved and 8gb ram and the Nvidia 1gb graphics card. These options are available at sony's main website but run extra by about 200plus. Even when I use the stamina setting using the intel 4000 graphics card it gets about 40 fps on high with low shadows. If youre a student pick this up at Sony's website and get that free PS3 or Vita.

No complaints with this laptop after several weeks of use! Starcraft 2 runs great, 900P screen is crisp. Plenty of other perks... would buy again.

Best Deals for Samsung RF711-S01 17.3-Inch Laptop (Brilliant Black)

The touchpad is going to make you wish you had a mouse. Its annoying for copy and pasting. Its also not centered relative to the laptop itself, but offset to the left. I've maxed out the sensitivity for it and it still needs more.

The wireless has software AND a button which only work together the first time after booting. So if you turn off the wireless and want to turn it on... you may have to Reboot. Plus they decided to make it more insecure by allowing it to default to on while booting... and even turning itself back on if powering off. Its annoying to push the little wireless button and nothing happens, or using the software and getting a connection error, requiring a reboot. (goodluck trying to find the actual wireless software exe file)

At this point I'm feeling I just need to uninstall their poor attempt with Win7 and put my own system onto it, assuming its not going to depend on their garbage software.

And why on earth couldnt they just make a pdf of their manual instead of some exe file which is overkill and fairly useless if you've been around computers for a few years?

PowerDVD software still hickups playing back bluray even with 8GB of memory installed.

Speakers give a hollow sounding playback.

I'm glad I only paid 740 for this.. I bought Samsung because I have a Samsung monitor thats lasted over 6 years and is user friendly. I guess it didnt translate to laptops.

Maybe my review will improve if the clean install improves performance and cuts some of the annoyance...

Update: Re-installing a clean Win7 Ultimate sure made it better. Even the touchpad works better.

Honest reviews on Samsung RF711-S01 17.3-Inch Laptop (Brilliant Black)

We purchased the 17.3 inch model NP-RF711 about six month ago. We loved the screen and performance about this Samsung but the battery life was only 3 hours normal use. Still, we were mostly using it home so 3 hours was enough. But, that was just a beginning! Few month later it went down drastically and now its literally ten minutes! So, we contacted Samsung about this issue and after they verified everything they told us to ship it to them by UPS and wait approximately two weeks for them first to test it. Now, we had a Sony laptop being warranty serviced before and they never expected us to give out our laptop for at least a two weeks in order for them to first test it. I offered their Customer Service rep. Jessica to take it to a Samsung Service Center which I know they have in the area but they only give you one option mail it and wait! Their Rep was unprofessional and unfortunately very ignorant. You would get more help from automated answering machine probably than from their Service team. I hope this will warn some of you considering buying Samsung laptop. Don't buy it unless you confident you wont have to ever call their Service Department! Save your money and buy something else, not worth it.

at a first glance this lap top blew my mind with its sleek look, bold colors, smooth operation and break neck speed when running games, but upon further inspection, i realized that (in my opinion) windows 8 wasn't all it cracked up to be, and what was especially a bummer was the fact that it gives you hell to downgrade to a lower more familiar version. But all in all it is a steal of a buy. If i had a chance to buy it again, the only thing i would do differently is get it in windows 7 lol

I was looking for a medium-sized laptop that I could take to college with me. I wanted something that had decent battery life, and one that was able to play most of my video games on at least medium settings. I have a large, dual monitor gaming set-up with a gaming desktop, so I have that to play all my graphic-intensive games on ultra settings, but I wanted to be able to do school work and some play on the go. This laptop performs extremely well. I can play minecraft, league of legends, warframe, etc, on Medium-high settings with no lag. Web pages seem to load faster on this. It's quiet, but the fan does kick in when you switch it to high-performance mode and get gaming.

It took me a while to get used to Windows 8, because my desktop is still at 7, but once you do, it isnt too bad. I miss having a regular start button, but they are supposedly coming out with 8.1, a free update that will give you the old functionality. Sometimes I feel like I'm using a tablet more than a laptop.

The speakers on this thing are amazing, They have dolby home theater speakers on the front, and a built-in software to control surround sound and what it sounds like with headphones/without headphones. Truly amazing sound. I love it.

The battery life is NO where near 5 hours. That is a complete lie. I get maybe 3.5 hrs on "power saver" mode, and maybe 2.5 on "High performance" mode. However, I rarely am without a power outlet, so this isnt too big of an issue to me.

This laptop starts up lightning fast, has amazing hard drive space, and a decent amount of RAM which can be easily upgraded.

The only thing I've found that bothers me is Skype. Once you sign into the Skype app with one account, you have to log out completely from microsoft and your email, etc, to log into another one. So far, it only lets me download the skype app, and not actual software to use on the desktop. A major pain for me since I have a personal family skype account, as well as a gaming one without personal information. I can't easily switch between them.

I did not buy this from Amazon, I bought mine from an actual store for about $80 less.

NOTE: I purchased my Ideapad Z585 from Best Buy NOT Amazon. I purchased it for use with a computer course that I am taking this summer. It worked fine for 2 weeks. The sound and display were great.

Just two weeks after I received the thing, it died and will not power on. I was working on battery power when it ran low, I plugged it in. 20 minutes later, it powered off. I searched the web and visited Lenovo's website and discovered that this is a VERY common problem with IDEAPADs.

I tried all of the troubleshooting techniques found...including removing the battery and charging and pressing the power button several times at varying rates to release the static charge that may linger when the system powers off abruptly. I called customer service and must now mail it to Lenovo at my expense. It will take 7 days to repair. I have school projects due that I need this computer for and school projects lost now on the hard drive. OF COURSE Best Buy has an unconscionable return policy of 15 days from original purchase (note is took almost that long to get the computer to me despite paying expedited shipping), so now I have no options and no PC.

In the future, I will purchase from Amazon or other companies who stand behind the products they sell and accept returns or exchanges within 30 days, which is the standard. I am very disappointed and disgusted with both Lenovo and will no longer buy their products.

i bought this laptop looking for something that would be able to do a lot for the price. when i got the laptop i started testing it out right away everything i threw at it wouldn't slow it down at all. i have plated assassins creed: brotherhood, GTA: IV, minecraft, and bioshock infinite at default settings with no lag at all and 60 fps the only time i has frame rate problems was when i tried recording gameplay using fraps which was too much for the processor to handle. as with the wifi it does seem slower than my old laptop its fast enough that it doesn't bother me but for you internet speed junkies a $20 usb wifi card can fix that. 4 stars for speed/gaming capabilities -1 star for slower wifi

Being a current and very happy owner of an ASUS Netbook ASUS Eee PC 1001PXD-MU17-WT 10.1-Inch Netbook (White) I thought this would make a nice gift for my brother who just moved 300 miles from me so we could keep in touch by Skype. Before I let him have it, I spent a few days using it and getting it set up and making sure everything worked. I like this so much it's now on my wish list for ME.

My first dilemma is whether to call this a notebook or a netbook because of the processor being more similar to what is found in a netbook. It's like a netbook processor-wise, but larger like a notebook.

Build-quality seems to be very good to excellent my only complaint is the CD/DVD drawer seems flimsy when opening/closing, but I am very careful with it. Even while closed, this note/netbook looks good with the dark espresso brown exterior and a lot of it seems to be made of aluminum. It's lightweight (under 6 lbs. with the battery installed), and has a power-saving feature so the 6 cell battery gets pretty close to 5 hours of battery life like the specifications state. The touch-pad is very responsive, although I prefer using a mouse. There are 3 USB 2.0 ports.

Even though the 1.6 GHz speed is on the slow side (after all this is a fairly inexpensive PC) having 4 GB of RAM is more than enough for internet, Word and Excel functions, email, and it has better graphics than my smaller netbook has. In addition, this has an internal DVD drive, unlike my Asus Netbook. For just a little more money over what you'd spend on the 10" model, you get it all with this.

Asus puts a lot of bloatware on this, which is easily uninstalled. Set-up was very easy and this comes with Windows 7 Home Premium, in addition to Microsoft Word and Excel which are NOT trial versions they are full-featured but you do have to put up with some small ads to use Word and Excel. It also comes with 6 months of TrendMicro anti-virus, which I uninstalled and went with Avast Free instead.

Asus has included Altec Lansing stereo speakers but like all other notebook speakers, these are average and could use more power, but sound much better than my smaller netbook's speakers.

Comes with chiclet keyboard, wireless 802.11 b/g/n, 4-in-1 card reader, 3 USB ports, 1 VGA port, 1 DVI port, microphone jack, headphone jack, RJ45 LAN jack and even a HDMI port so this can be attached to your HDTV.

The keyboard also has the 10-key numeric keypad to the right, like full size keyboards have.

CON: My only complaint is the web cam, being 0.3 MP, it has bad video quality. It's good enough to see the person when you're Skypeing, but I sure wouldn't make a YouTube video using it. But since I/we were looking for a budget full-size computer and even though the 0.3 MP web cam doesn't quite cut it for me, it's good enough since I already know what my brother looks like. It is what it is, and if you're looking for a high def web cam, either don't choose this computer or add an external cam.

I hesitated buying this because I had a problem finding reviews. But I bought it any way because the price was good. I'm really glad I did. I use this as a 2nd computer for when I go to the lake on weekends so I only use it for word processing, photo editing, watch DVDs, etc. This notebook is perfect for my needs. Love the keyboard and the screen. Downloading movies is easy and look great. Very nice viewing area for a notebook. I will upgrade to 8 GB of memory for the photo editing, but other than that I love it. I do agree with the 1st review about the DVD drive. Touch pad is real sensitive buttons are a bit loud when clicked, but I prefer a mouse, so not an issue for me. It's really a beautiful notebook. Love the mocha color.

It is so slow with so many problems. The screen is often becoming furry and stretched if I use it to do scanning. It takes about 10 times longer to boot up to compare with my old ones. I could not type to search after using it to shop online. The list can go on for more that I have wanted to drop on a hard floor to destroy it for so many times.

Great product. Nicely packaged and sleek design. Not too heavy and just right for the average user. Out of the box, add battery, plug in and go. Display is crisp (once you increase the brightness F12) and the responsive keyboard is a dream to type on plus number keys separate, thank you. High fingerprint threshold and nice finish on all surfaces. Cool running and quiet. Better than I expected.

Just unboxed the laptop, doing initial setup. Packaging was awesome; had this cool fold-out soft-foam that cradled the computer 360 degrees, but was slotted down the top-center to allow the laptop to be removed in a couple seconds. Battery install was a snap, initial setup going great. Installing World of Warcraft now, and browsing around to collect a few programs. Not having any trouble with processing speed so far.

More updates to come.

Update 8/22/13: Great laptop! This laptop runs WoW Mists of Pandaria very well for the price. During normal play (flying around, in town, auction house, etc...) i'm hitting 60+ frames per second (FPS) with low to medium settings. During large raids and certain world encounters, settings have to be on low and FPS drops to around 15-30. Still playable, but a little bit lacking. I'm considering a solid state drive for this laptop to boost it a little bit.

Keyboard is great, touch pad is just the right amount of sensitive. I wish it had a standalone microphone plug, but i'm not going to knock any stars. Most of the bloatware was easy to remove, which is a big plus.

So far, i'm extremely happy with my purchase and i would recommend to the casual gamer, student, or home office user.

Honest reviews on Lenovo G700 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black)

This notebook computer is very good and I've owned a quite a few in my day.

I never owned a 17,3 inch laptop before so this is my first.

I just sold my Sony VAIO E Series SVE14112FXB 14-Inch Laptop that I paid $599 in July 2012.

I was a bit skeptical at first for such a cheap laptop but the Lenovo design is great.

Opening it up to put in a SSD or upgrade the memory is very easy. Charging port design is great.

Screen is excellent. Sound is awesome. Cooling system is on the left side (not underneath).

The first thing I did when I got it was put in 4GB of extra memory and did a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Got all drivers from their website, no problems...

The only thing is on the website (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CRXZU94) the product description list Bluetooth as a feature (at least when I bought it). When I got it there was no Bluetooth combo card, just a Broadcom BCM4313 802.11bgn Wireless LAN Card (04W3750). So if you need integrated Bluetooth get something else. For me the trackpad is quite nice and not like those new VAIO ones so I don't need my external bluetooth mouse to get work done.

Also you need a big notebook bag for this baby.

Will keep you posted!

So far I enjoy my Acer laptop (I have owned it for about one month). It is lightweight and I like the numbers positioned on the right. I have nothing bad to say about the product. Windows 8 is not my favorite running system, but I understand MS has a download for that soon to correct user complaints. The laptop was loaded with a bunch of junk I had to remove which I expected from reading the review from PC Magazine. I wish it had been loaded with some sort of MS office product. This is my second Acer product. I have owned an 8-inch laptop for at least three years that I use when traveling. I can say nothing bad about that product either.

As I write this review from the said device, I must admit I continue to feel the glow of guiltless acquisition of a solid purchase. This is still the best hardware-to-cost value I've found on the net, it runs more intensive programs than I initially had hoped it might, and it has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience learning Windows 8 and this machine. Some things to note are the Acer bloatware, which is easily uninstalled to your liking, and the somewhat unrelenting keyboard. You're going to literally have to break it in. The keys are shallow and a bit tight, and at first there is going to be some resistance. These are the furthest thing from a set of Blue Cherry MX you'll find. Inevitably, they will start to ease up and hit a sweet spot and you will be typing like a stenographer again in no time. The screen is beautiful, Windows 8 is far more enjoyable then you might hear from an overwhelmingly critical tech industry, and the machine is a perfect value for people with light tasks in mind. This thing is also slim and light and will transport in anything conforming to it's modest dimensions. I would surely suggest this computer to anyone.

Anyone interested in buying this particular model please stay away from it. Lenovo Ideapad U510 model has a very known hardware issue with the ELAN touchpad. I returned this model exactly for the same issue. This issue is known since Dec 2012 I believe. See the following link:

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Jumpy-and-Laggy-Touchpad-on-U510/td-p/952467

You will literally find 14 pages filled with customer complaints. The discussion thread stopped when someone from Lenovo support acknowledged it as hardware issue. Lenovo is shameless that it is still selling this faulty model just to clear its inventory. Looks like they prefer their own interests over ours. They should have recalled this model and come up with a new model that fixes the touchpad issue and discontinue the U510 model altogether.

I bought this Lenovo laptop to replace my old Lenevo Thinkpad bought 6 yrs ago. I thought Lenovo was a great brand but I will now shop for either HP or Dell.

I purchased my U510 at another retailer (same spec and price) and must say this is a great laptop. The screen is crisp and clear, the keyboard is a joy to type on and the speed meets my needs. The style of the laptop (like a journal or notebook) with the same color top and bottom is very cool and gets glances when I am carrying it around or using it.

Great perforemce at a great price.

Best Deals for Lenovo IdeaPad U510 15.6-Inch Ultrabook (Graphite Gray)

I ended up getting this same computer (refurbished) from the Lenovo official outlet shop for $450. For that price, it is a steal, but for what they offer it here for, it is definitely overpriced, because there are problems with it:

The touchpad is quite annoying, as it jumps when scrolling down otherwise ok.

The wifi does go off often for inexplicable reasons (on battery and everything, still unstable) had to get the official drivers with the connection utility from Intel to be at least able to troubleshoot it efficiently.

The battery lasts pretty long, some 4 hours, so that's fine.

Also, for some reason, sometimes when I close the lid, it goes to sleep, sometimes it turns off (although I set it up to go to sleep only), so I don't know what the deal is with that.

ALSO, there was a huge problem with the online sign-in to Windows8 with my (or any) Microsoft account initially (it was impossible, gave me an error every time) and I solved that by changing some registry (do your research and you'll find a solution), and it looks like Lenovo has a broken copy of Win8 that they are putting on these computers, otherwise the system has worked fine.

Moreover, beware, the speakers are really, really quiet, it's kinda ridiculous.

Oh yeah, and the last problem (I'm aware of) is the annoying beeping when the battery is low. I did all the research and no, it is not possible to turn off in the system or in bios, anywhere you just need to mute ALL the sounds, then it goes away. That means that you are not able to play any other sounds at the same time.

So yeah, there are many issues with this. I'd say the best thing about this computer is the design and a good keyboard, otherwise don't spend more money than you have to, there are other models from other brands that work much better for this price!

Honest reviews on Lenovo IdeaPad U510 15.6-Inch Ultrabook (Graphite Gray)

Do not buy this...The keyboard is really bad and my fingers hurt if you try to type fast. They are really expensive and there are sooo many model which are cheaper and better then these.

Of the fifteen or so laptops I have owned over the years this Lenovo right out of the box was the worst I have ever owned.

The touchpad was so sensitive that the machine would not stay on the page that you were looking at, and when it did the mouse pointer was jumping all over the screen. Wireless connectivity was limited to 5 10 feet from my new Cisco router. It seems that both of these problems have been written up extensively on the web (Lenovo laptop problems) for the last few years. Unfortunately I did not see them before I bought this machine. It has since been returned.

The estimated shipping on this laptop was for between the 9th and the 10th, the laptop actually arrived on the 6th! So the shipping was incredibly fast. The item itself, thus far, no problems.

Fast computer, fast boot, stays cool, does everything I need it to do.

There are only two downfalls to this laptop, it doesn't have amazing graphics, not terrible, but not incredible, but it's all that can be expected from such a great value.

The other downfall is the OS

Not a big fan of Windows 8, tried to install Linux, but I haven't been able to figure out how to, it seems other people are having this same problem on sites like NEWEGG.

However, I'm going to continue to search for a way to install a new OS and I'll stay updated.

My favorite thing about this computer was the webcam, perfect quality, matches up to an imac.

I definitely recommend this product.
